Mike_D - 2012-01-01 4:46 AM Happy New Year!!!

First trainer ride of the new year is done. Going for a run later today. Its a beautiful day outside, I feel great, and now I have to go take all the Christmas decorations down.

Awesome Mike!

Speaking of trainers. What kind of trainer do you all have?  I just purchased an older used cycle-ops off craigslist and I don't like it.  Maybe I need to get a different one???  Anyone feel strongly about thier trainer?  Suggestions or recommendations.

I'm a big fan of the Computrainer, but it is more expensive than the normal trainer.  Doug and Tony seem to be good at finding CT deals if you're at all interested.  I did used to use the Cyclops before I got my CT and it worked pretty well for me. Maybe you just need to get used to it?

So the cycle-ops I bought is about 10 years old I just found out and I think there might be issues with it.  It is super loud and I feel like it "catches" - it doesn't spin smoothly.  I am not sure about the expense of a CT but that type looks awesome like a computer game - .  I will be indoor riding for a while  so id love something comfortable and  fun!

December's totals:
Bike:18h 18m 30s  - 330.7 Mi
Run:12h 44m 30s  - 91 Mi
Swim:9h 35m  - 17500 Yd

2011 totals
Bike:204h 26m 21s  - 3634.2 Mi
Run:167h 05m 49s  - 1231.17 Mi
Swim:100h 14m 48s  - 206686 Yd
Strength:4h 25m

Welcome back, Cheri!

Happy New Year's MG!  Totals were about 5% more on the bike, 10% more on the run and down about 10% on the swim.

Hope everyone is off to a good start...or will be, starting tomorrow, yeah, that's the ticket!

I had a nice run/walk this morning with Ripley...skies are blue and my foot is happy and that interval thing worked really well, thanks, Suzy!  I forgot how nice it is to do the run/walk.

Had fun watching Fergie and Nicky Minaj last night on the countdown to midnight...and thought it was pretty cool that Dick Clark still did the countdown.

2011 logged totals:

Bike:57h 29m 44s  - 758.93 Mi
Run:99h 12m 21s  - 543.23 Mi
Swim:16h 30m

Big lesson here: log my workouts!  The main reason the run is so high is because when I plugged my garmin in a couple weeks ago, it still had all my fall running on it.

Also, I've just finished a rather exhaustive view of my year on my blog.  If anyone is interested, my blog link is in my siggy.

Nice job to everyone on their 2011 numbers!  It's another thing that makes me want to be more diligent in tracking.  I want that celebration.

Mike_D - 2012-01-01 2:16 PM Cycle Ops 2 Fluid trainer here. Seems to work fine for me.

Me too, love my cyclops fluid trainer : )

Mark me down for third MG'r with a Fluid2
- Just got it in November, a LOT harder than riding on the road... I was used to gauging effort by average speed on set courses; speed is very different on the trainer.  Now I just use instant HR and RPE, too cheap to buy a power meter.
Overall I like it... reminds me I still need a fan, it is blazing hot on that thing!

Registered for the Air Force Marathon today...  This could be my first full, it is in mid September; I may find another in late spring but the AFM will be my "A" race of the two.

Anyway, I will complete at least one full marathon this year.  Big deal for me!
No tri's on the schedule just yet but I'm still looking.Laughing

I have a Kurt Kinetic which works good. BUT I really want a computrainer so if anyone sees any good deals on one tell me.

If you want to estimate power using the Fluid2, see the message from Donto (6 or 7 messages down on this page).  He provides a spreadsheet that you can download.

...edit: this is actually for the Kurt Kinetic, but he says the power curve matches Fluid2

Two fans for me on the trainer, that's for sure. I found/find it Super hard when starting out and/or getting back at it. I have a CT now but one thing I found helpful on my KK was to adjust the flywheel load so that 90rpm would feel smooth and zone 2 ish RPE or HR in big ring front and 2-3 down on the rear cassette...that way gear changes for harder zone 3 or zone 4 efforts were not way down on big front and smallest on the back which always felt grinding and "bumpy"...hope that helps, Cheri.

x4, Cycle Ops here.  I find that for the same RPE my speed is about 20% lower on the trainer versus outside.

Bike:

100h 41m 24s  - 2199.2 KM
Run:64h 01m 19s  - 497.03 KM
Swim:40h 31m  - 81000 M

Unfortunately I stopped logging things about September and really didn't to much the month of Nov or Dec with the new job.

This does not include indoor training or treadmills.

Yes.  Thanks!  Thank  you everyone for the feedback.  CT is spendy. KK or Cycleop fluid seems to be the trainer of choice for most folks.  I will try to adjust the load and maybe that will help the rough feeling I get when I am on it.  Yes...sluggish.

Agree about speed on the trainer being about 20% lower than 'road' speed.

First 'official' masters class today, and it was great. Felt tired, but really good after. This is going to be really good for me.

A short run later today, bike/trainer ride in the AM tomorrow.

2012 is starting off on a VERY positive path, both mentally & physically.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Playing catch-up.  This MG is prolific!

Spent some great family/friend time (with no internet!) at my Dad's house in Pine Mt. Lake, and rang in the New Year safely.  Disappointed with the lack of snow, but loved getting the NYE run done in 65 degree weather! Had a round of food poisoning that wiped out yesterday and is hampering today, but it's improving.

Happy with my 2011 numbers - met every goal!

Bike:266h 20m 03s  - 4140.43 Mi
Run:154h 51m 50s  - 1014.06 Mi
Swim:70h 38m 57s  - 226067.8 Yd

I'm a bit late with the 'hits and misses' question, but I'll play.   Happies with my IMAZ race, and my Big Sur BQ.  Still madly in love with my new bike.

Bummed by the injuries this year, and plagued by 4th place finishes.  Nutrition still stinks.

SO....for 2012......Try to stay healthy, eat better, and get just a bit faster.  Oh, and CRUSH BOSTON!!!

Time to go undecorate the house.....with frequent rest breaks. GI distress is no fun.....

Congrats on a very good year!!!  Think of food poisoning as your early diet.....  And I think bumping up your nutrition is a great way to reach those goals.
