With a March marathon in my future, the February goal is to nail every run workout as written.  A secondary goal will be to OWS at least 4xs.  We head to Hawaii on 2/14 for the remainder of the month so it's a perfect environment to achieve both goals.

Close to meeting my January goals. Still trying to figure out my February goals, especially those couple weeks between races. Will get those up ASAP.

Also, I'm wondering about long-term sustainability of running mileage. After I get through my half mary in March (one in Feb, one in March), I'd like to keep my mileage up to keep a long run base of 10 miles or so. Is it possible to do this? I'm imagining, once through these two races (and recovered, of course), working towards an alternating schedule of a long weekend of 10, a shorter weekend of 6-7, etc., unless I'm tired. Doable? Make sense?

I have a few bigger goals this fall and I don't want to let my running mileage slide like I normally do.

Oh, and small run & swim on deck for today. Took yesterday as a rest day. It's supposed to be pretty nice here today and tomorrow so I'm hoping to get my runs (3 today, 5 tomorrow) outside.

I'm sitting here waiting for the phone company guy to show up, I'm really hoping to get the line fixed so I can get my internet back! Typing this on my phone.

My goal for the month was consistency, specifically I wanted to hit 6 runs/week. I only did 5 days last week, and missed a few bike sessions, but overall I'm pleased. coming off of months of inactivity I think I did a good job of getting back into it without overdoing it or getting hurt.

the one thing I'm bummed about is how many times I ended up on the treadmill very late at night. not only does this affect my sleep as I have a hard time getting to sleep right after working out, but it means I didn't take advantage of opportunities during the day to get my run in.

for February I would like to keep the same goal of running 6 days per week, but add in some food goals as well. I actually did very well this month on breakfast and dinner, but completely slacked on lunch and ate a lot of crap in the evenings (I ate an entire bag of chocolate mini donuts last night...). so my goal is to keep the good, dump the bad, and see if I can get some weight loss going. I did drop a few pounds this month but I would like to be around 195 at the end of February (207 this morning).

Kristen, I am thinking the same thing about my running....problem is between your knees and my gastrocs it may not be wise to keep the volume high for long term.  I like my weekly long run around 8 miles...might try for every few weeks to do a 10 miler.  It's a hard call sometimes to know where to push the volume and wnen to let go of it.

I am in for a Feb goal....if you count my little recovery swims I did make the 2x a week goal.....just not the way I wanted to.  New Feb swim goal is to try the new Master's class at the other gym and keep an open mind about the return of the coach I don't like at the regular gym.

woohoo, I'm back online!  I must say I didn't mind not having a landline at all, and the missing TV was no big deal.  But I didn't realize how much I depended on the internet on a daily basis until it was gone!  And that was only for ~5 days.

Three days left in January, time to finish out the month strong.

My january goal went a little out the window last week due to my being ill.  Unfortunately it seems to be lingering (it's been called the "3 week flu", so I may have a little more to go).  I've been sleeping 10+ hours most nights and I'm still incredibly tired when I get up.  However, I decided that I'm feeling better enough to try not to lose all the benefit I've gained from January, so the current plan is to continue with my consistency, but to make all my workouts short and easy until I'm feeling better.  I'm on target for this week.

So February's goal is going to be the same as January until I feel better: 2x each s/b/r.  Once I'm feeling better I'm going to get back to some volume/intensity and also try to add in another b/r each week.

I've also started doing some pilates this month and I'm going to try to do 6 workouts/per week in February.  Core work is really important for me because I had spinal surgery as a teenager and if I don't keep up the core work I land up with really bad back pain.

Rachel,

That's a good goal given how sick you have been.  Hope you start feel on the upswing soon.  It has seemed to linger for most people.

Goals:  I'm normally a very goal-oriented person.  But right now, I'd be setting myself up for utter failure.  I've failed (and succeeded) at meeting goals before, but they were very ambitious goals and I came close and didn't feel too bad about not quite getting there.  Right now, I'm afraid to articulate any goals, because the chance of ending up 'not even close' is pretty good.

I worked today from 5am until about 30 minutes ago, with the exception of a 30 minute swim in place of lunch.  I don't know how many more 16+ hour work days I have left in me.  As I get older, I have less stamina for that sort of thing, and less willingness to push that hard to the detriment of the more important things in life (even though I actually do think that my work has some importance).

But seeing the great training you guys are doing, and how you are challenging yourselves, is very motivating.  Somehow I will bike and run tomorrow...

Quiet group today!

Fred, good luck with the bike fitting.  It is hard to switch fitters when you have such loyalty to one shop.  Hard call, but if the fit isn't right we all know how unpleasant it can make the ride.

Got up and ran 10K before work this morning.  Last week our weather was low teens, today I was over dressed in capris and a long sleeved shirt.  Slow (by my usual times)  Think I need some yoga later this evening and some down time after this race.

Hubby just signed up for his first tri! (And I'm doing the same one as in-laws will be in town to supervise the little people in the house).

I'm excited for him - we are plotting our summer schedule so that he can "get his feet wet" so to speak and so I can try to get to my goal too.

Very cool!  Which one are both of you doing?  I am assuming Power Sprint since it's in your back yard and a pool swim?

My Feb goal is to get my race calendar for 2013 figured out.  From there just stay healthy and to be more consistent in the pool and on the bike.  I'm really enjoying the running right now.  Just got back from a work trip to NYC where I got to run with friends in central park twice.  One of my favorite places to run.

Swam today, I'm done with swimming for the week.  I do think I'd like to add a strength exercise on the weekends to supplement my swim muscles since I'm only swimming 2x/week.

I experimented with a higher elbow catch, I'm now sore in places I have not felt before!  Definitely using different muscles.  Unfortunately on the left side it aggravates my shoulder (which has a long history of damage including several dislocations and a separation starting when I was a teenager).  This is where I'm hoping some 'land' exercises will help with the shoulder support muscles.

right after swimming I went for a short run.  I guess it's a brick, but not particularly relevant other than the long run to T1...  The run felt good, but my quads were pretty tight/sore.  I suspect from last night's bike as opposed to swimming though.

I train with a guy who does IMFL every year who always gets out of the pool and runs a lap around the pool.  It does help, particularly in the longer distances, to get used to being upright after the prone swim position.

Nope, doing RTC down at GRAP in April.

After that, I'm getting back into OWS... Can't let the horse scare me away. Time to get back on. (With the help of Peluso - not doing it on my own.)

You're right, Fred.

February goals for me:

* Get work under control so that I can work normal hours (not directly tri-related, but indirectly very much so)

* Maintain current run fitness.

* One outdoor ride per week, building to 3 hours

I did manage to both run and bike today.  Now I have to go back to the office, but at least I got something in.

I see some nice goals from others.  Here's hoping we all get there!

I'm setting some small realistic goals for myself for Feb.

- run 12 times (had 9 runs in Jan)

- strength train 2 X week

- find a spot in the house to put my bike on the trainer and set it up.

- buy a 12 visit pass for the municipal pool and go at least once/week
