OH, Well that clears it up!!!

Thanks Kim for my laugh out loud moment of the day.  I agree.  I read all of this talk about numbers and power and blah, blah, blah.  Don't get me wrong, it's all great and I'm sure a very useful training tool but I have zippy time to even think about it.

I'm still in the caveman stage of training ...  Get on bike, pedal.  Put on shoes, run.  And in my case - jump in water, try not to sink.

I kinda dig it...  You know - once a nerd, always a nerd - the subject matters not!  This forum is kinda like an online version of Tri-Lamda   John - you get to be Booger....

Rob - the discussions I've been having with Suzy and Kim go way beyond offending people, I don't think you guys could handle it.  There is a functional aspect to the female anatomy you guys don't quite grasp.  For you, everything is a play toy Kiss    And I am excited for you that your wife will be there to share the experience. Steve is right, seeing her will help so much.   She will think you are an even bigger stud you already are when she sees the magnitude of what you have accomplished.

Suzy - I don't think  I could swim in a place called Devil's Lake!!!!

Kim - I totally agree with you on the language comment.  Doesn't anyone measure performance by average speed and time anymore?

I've been in meetings all day and we are getting two new databases at work called Skynet and the Matrix.  How funny is that?  Now that I am back at my desk I can either do real work or go read Steve's race report.  And since he never answered my question about the team's name I guess I'll have to read the report.  See you later.

Here is my wife's response to my log...

Yes…let’s just say I was so miserable (and still am) with poison ivy that has spread over all my legs and all my arms. L So miserable that last night in my desperation for relief, it seemed completely reasonable to take a pumice stone (normally used to scrap off calluses at the bottom of your feet) and scrape my legs as hard as I could. Then to take acetone nail polish remover and rub it on my legs to take away the stingy itch. And when that still did not provide enough relief, I took a whole box of baking soda and made a paste that I rubbed all over my legs and arms.  All remedies which I found online at 3:30am. I’m taking a quick break from work today to go home and get another pain pill.

I will NEVER do another adventure race*.

*Subject to change when I have more than 2 hours of sleep and not feel like I want to rent a commercial grade sander from Home Depot to exfoliate the poison from my skin.

Which is why many women have more than one child.  Child birth is traumatic but once enough time goes by you forget the anguish and pain and decide it's a good idea to do it all over again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now if she were a man and felt that way now, she truly would not do another adventure race.  Wink  I can guarantee you lost Tony at poison ivy.

Right, I think I'll leave out the poison ivy part.  Between Muddy Buddy and Adventure racing I think my schedule has taken a new direction next year.

Great race report, Steve (and race)...sounds like tons of fun minus the poison ivy!

Do any of you guys run with either the fuel belt or amphipod for hydration for longer distances?  I have been relying on plotting out water fountains, parking the car strategically...it's getting harder as the mileage is going up!  One thing that has kept me from purchasing one is that I don't like bouncing or bunchiness...but I think I'm going to have to break down very soon.

I have an amphipod nice because you can mix and match bottle sizes and configurations.

Kim-

I just started using this little baby, and it is pretty cool!  http://www.gel-bot.com/

But for run's with no place to refill water I would go w/ the Fuelbelt 4 pack.....

Helium FuelBelt is my hydration system of choice.  It is significantly better than the other fuel belts and it has a zipper pocket for my gel.  And yes you need one for marathon training!

Any run scheduled over an hour or in extreme heat I take my 4 bottle.  At first Ithought it would bother me .. but after teh first run/drink I was fine with it.  Saved my life a few times!

I can't remember if I saw that anyone was racing this weekend.  Good luck if you are.  It seemed there were more family things that races this weekend.

I just finished up my running for the week.  It always feel weird to be done on Friday.  I kind of like moving my long runs to Mondays.  I'm not sure I've built up that much speed yet but I really proud of myself for sticking w/ the mileage that I laid out for myself.  I'm just a few miles shy of 150 miles for the first 5 weeks of the plan.  11 weeks to go to OBX.  I think it will be tough to hold a 8:30 pace for a BQ time but I should at least blow away my last marathon time.

Happy Friday and I hope everyone has a great weekend.

I have an amphipod similar to this..http://www.amphipod.com/345/345.html
But mine has 2 12 ounce bottles.  I can add bottles to my belt, but don't have any extras yet.
I'm very pleased with it.  The pocket is big enough for some gels and my phone and the belt doesn't bounce.

Thanks Steve.  I just bought one.  I've seen similar products advertised in magazines but never see them in stores so I jumped on your website. Very cool.

Kim,  I use a Nathan fuel belt.  The bottles hold 10oz each and it fits very snug.

Okay ladies, tri saddle saga....... went to have my fitting tweeked last night on the tri bike and here are the results.  When I was first fitted he said I rolled my hips under too far and thus rounded my back and lost the effects of the aero position.  I did this to sit more on my sit bones and minimize soft tissue discomfort. So when I went out on my ride I removed all rotation from my hips and spent the entire ride sitting only on my pubic bone.  No wonder it hurt so much!  When I went back yesterday to switch the saddle we discussed trying to find a position where more weight is distributed on the sit bones in the back so as to relieve the pubic bone pressure, but not making it too complicated.  The way you sit is the way you sit basically.  In summation I need to find the position where I am flexing from my hips more so that my pelvis remains flat enough so the weight is evenly distributed between the sit bones and not rolling too much on the soft tissue or the pubic bone.  I did get a new saddle.  Bontrager WSD (women specific design) Inform RL.  It felt better in the store but we were also tweeking the way I sit.  I'll let you know after a few test rides if I like it better.  The back part is curved down to fit the curvature of a womans hips better and not rub the inside of her legs.

Tracey, make sure you get in at least a 50 mile ride on the saddle before you say yes.  Try and stay in aero as much of the ride as you can.

If your midsection feels good after that then you have the right saddle.  50 miles at one time seems to be the breaking point for many saddles imo.
