I have a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and about 5 years of MMA training and have been debating getting back into it but kinda worried that those nagging injuries that always seem to pop up when training in MA will interrupt my Tri training. Just wondering if you still train and to Tri's at the same time. I did plenty of Jiu-Jitsu too, and was ALWAYS sore or injured. From my neck to my joints to even my fingertips from grabing Gi's... Never got past gold/yellow belt. But I started that after getting a black belt in Karate... I wanted to branch out so tried judo, Jiu Jitsu, and aikido. They even had a ninjitsu school, but those guys seemed a little crazy. Anyway, haven't done Aikido for about 5-6 years. It's pretty gental, a little too formal for my taste (old school japanese). But like you, I may go back to it because I know it's safe and I won't get injured for tri. But since I live in Las Vegas, there are plenty of MMA schools that have major stars teaching. Some Gracies, Randy Coutour, a Shamrock. Some of the UFC guys train here to. So it's really tempting to learn from them. But kiss triathlon good buy with all the potential for injury.. I have a Krav Maga school that opened up down the street. That could work. probably not as big a risk for injury, VERY practical for the streets, and it would be something new. |
