My husband and I are also doing White Lake on May 1st as a tune up for CDA. We have a group of NC Bt'ers headed down to White Lake this weekend to ride the course and test out the lake! |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Based on my Oceanside time and the standard half-to-full IM calculator of "double it and add an hour," I guess I might expect to be around 10:50, which would out me be about an hour off of a qualifier. That's ok, tho - I don't think I should be putting any time pressure on my first IM, anyway. I've done 3 HIM races with CW spots and I've missed out all three times. Each time, the last spot has gone to the finisher just before me (or the only one at rolldown in front of me), so I should be used to it haha! Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go sub-10 and qualify, but I don't think that's realistic and it might make for a demoralizing run if I know I'm waaay over any time goal I set. That being said, I have set my over/under at 10:30 :D I hope to go have a good swim. Take it easy on the bike (at least for the 1st 80 miles or so) and then try to keep it together so that I can run from aid station to aid station without too much stomach distress. 10:30 - that's sounds like a helluva long time. I think my longest workout to date has been 6 or 7 hours and that was with a lot of breaks. Yikes. Sure got some training to do! |

Master 2621 Almaden Valley, San Jose, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread My biggest run month. ever. Swimming and biking took a hit. I've never ran longer than I've biked! I'm doing a HIM - May 1, Wildflower. also running Boston, in 18 days. but who's counting.

Master 1472 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Wow! Great number everyone. The new year has not been kind to my training. Between starting a new job that has been quite overwhelming at times and moving my training has taken a serious hit. Hopefully I have managed to build a little base and can go into the build months now and be fine. Not ready to hit the panic button just yet... Now, I need to get off here and go ride while the sun is shining for a second. |

Mike, great job with your 70.3! Killer time. I am sure you have seen it, but Slowtwitch has a nice article posted in regards to Oceanside. Next time try to reel in Mirinda Carfrae would yah!?! She is an animal.... Before I forget, thanks for posting the predictor calculators... They are helpful! However, I think it will still be a crap shoot. To many variables and being new to the tri's. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I went from hoping to drop 45 min off last years IM down to 11:30... but with the calf pull this late in the game I am just hoping to be able to finish and not rulling out some walking during the mary, even if I can rehab in time. Ice, heat and rest atm. I am able to do some swim and bike at least. Well we will see if I can still bike tomorrow. Definately some good numbers out there, jsut wish I were in the mix of building rather than not being able to do any run for at least a week and then very lite for 3 weeks... sigh. |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Snapped a shifter cable 35 miles into an 80-mile ride today. Had to break off from the group and limp on home. At least I still had use of the small ring, but it was making a racket. Not a fun 20 miles. Of course, I picked up a flat along the way. Good news is I still got in 50+ miles and spent 4 hours out of the house on a beautiful spring day. And I finally got to use one - okay both - of my CO2 canisters and now I think I actually know how to use them. It wasn't the fastest change with 90mm fairing, valve extensions and rear dropout, but I wasn't exactly looking forward to getting back on the bike and spinning it out to go 15 mph, sounding like an egg beater the whole time. Better today than race day, I guess. Running 20 tomorrow as last long prep for Boston. Ok...off to the bike shop. Hope you are all out riding and enjoying the weekend! |

Jess I've ridden the course on the CT, but I haven't done the race before. For what it's worth, I tend to find I'm much faster out on the open road than on the machine. Hoping that holds true at CDA! |

Regular 56 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I just kicked off my race season yesterday with the Dry Creek Half Marathon. This is a smaller race with just over 200 finishers. It was a little tougher than I thought it was going to be with approx. 2000 ft elevation gain with mixed single track trail and paved road. The good news is that I was able to take home some hardware with a 3rd place overall male finisher with time of 1:38. I was happy with that considering the 1st and 2nd place finishers were in the 1:36 time range. Both of those guys are sub 3 hour marathoners and sub 1:20 halfers on the flat stuff. My running is coming around! Of course with all of this training, the weight is also coming off which helps. My next race it the Race to Robie Creek is in a couple of weeks. It is considered the hardest half marathon in the Northwest and Runner's World called it "Best Bragging Rights" in 2007. This year the 2400 slots sold out in 13 minutes. It must be the after party! This will be my 9th consecutive year running it and I am hoping to break the 1:40 mark with a stretch goal of 1:35. Again, it is a butt kicker with over 2100 ft of climbing the first 8.5 miles. I hope you all enjoyed the Easter weekend with some training! My kids have been feeding me way to much Easter Candy! I guess that forces me to jump on the trainer for a couple of hours for some easy recovery. Happy Training Gang! |
