Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congratulations on the progress Ernesto! I "raced" my first 10 miler today. I've done many distances but not that one so it's a PR albeit a disappointing one. I finished in 1:49:47 (10:59/mi) I've had training runs almost that fast at a much lower heart rate. It was very windy here today and about 3 or 4 miles of the race was into a headwind but I don't think that was the difference. My last HM in almost the same conditions averaged 10:43 miles and 10 bpm lower heart rate. I wish I could figure this one out. Maybe allergies? |

New user![]() | ![]() Day 2 of MAF training. I noticed today while running that I really had to more or less walk/run in order to keep my heart rate where it needed to be. On the other hand, I ran more than I walked and felt really OK afterwards. Yesterday I biked and oddly enough I stayed pretty much at the RPMs I'm usually at and my mileage was about the same (in fact a little better). So, I'll stay the course. I'm not quite convinced yet on the "wear the flattest, most basic shoe" concept. As an over-pronator and prone to shin splints, I'd sure hate to make some sort of change and screw things up. Happy training, everyone! |

Happy training, everyone! Stay the course. It is strange in the beginning and it took a long time for me to fall into line. It is incredible that as time goes on you will get faster and remain pain free. My issue was achillies tendonitis. Not since following Maffetone method. |

I can't believe you guys can train in the high temps/humidity. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Barry, yes, PR is PR – congratulations! The rain has made my training life quite minimal, but this morning managed a 27k run - yipee. Oh, since I dislike all that weight training, I made myself a rowing machine... It took over a month. Hopefully I will use it

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Saturday was a 40 mile bike with full race setup. Had the race wheels on and race day nutrition/hydration setup. Only issue was that it was 50 degrees with a 10mph+ winds. Felt strong except that the feet and hands were cold. Got off the bike and ran 8 miles. I felt great and wasn't pushing it early on. However, my HRM was giving me wacky numbers for the first 20 minutes or so (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/172621433). I had the HRM on for the last 2 hrs so I couldn't figure why the numbers were so high, but it didn't feel like I was working that hard. The Garmin is always a crapshoot for the first 10 minutes or so, but I never experienced this problem for that long. Could the Garmin be that off for that long? After my HR settled down, I did push the last part of workout. Mark: Your daughter is adorable. Barry: A PR is a PR! You can only race the conditions as presented. I'm sure you learned a thing or two from the experience that you use to your advantage in the future. Nice job.

I can't believe you guys can train in the high temps/humidity. Agreed. I am dreading the summer heat and humidity. Though with the frost on the ground this morning, I wouldn't mind just a little of it today. Yesterday's plan of drainer and dreadmill completely fell through. Ended up doing a bunch of yard work/clean-up. Today the weather promises to be better and now with the chores done, I can get out for a real brick workout. Planning a 20+ mile bike and 6-7 mile run. (once the temps are out of the 30's) |

Happy training, everyone! I'm finding the same thing w/the bike being close to my natural effort and the run being much slower than my training pace. Unfortunately, The last week has been all biking due to a Mortons Neuroma flare up in my right foot so this is based on only two runs. Time will tell. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Another good week, down 4 lbs. I'm also on day 12 of the 2 week carb test which I'm sure has alot to do with the weight loss. Speaking of the carb test, first 3 days were very tough with fatigue, headaches, cravings and overall crankiness but after that, things turned around completely and I feel great, just like you guys predicted. Most surprising benefit coming out if this is how much better I sleep at night. I used to wake up 3 or 4 times a night, and was a light sleeper, but now I'm sleeping much more soundly. Very cool.

Thanks Ernesto & gang! The Garmin link is below. Miles 2 - 6.5 were into a headwind of maybe 15-20mph, mile 7 was the turnaround and the remainder was with a tail wind. I think my heart rate was high from the beginning though.

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() baurryman - 2012-04-29 11:28 AM I don't see absolutely anything wrong with the execution of that race, if you had made any mistakes there is no way you could have finished the last mile and change a whole minute per mile faster than the average pace that you ran before. No drift in the HR and a steady pace. To me it looks good, maybe just bad conditions (wind).ernestov - 2012-04-28 9:09 PM baurryman - 2012-04-28 2:11 PM Upload the race file and maybe that will show what went wrong.Congratulations on the progress Ernesto! Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Barry: Great PR! Mark: Looks like an excellent rowing machine! No rowing machine here, but I did finally find a pull up bar to put in the doorway that won't destroy the door frame. That'll be good for working on the triceps and lats in the off chance I ever get to swim this summer. Yesterday's workout was a few hours in the yard. Today I finally managed to get in a run today...5.77 miles in 49:56. My HR was high but I guess that was expected given I hadn't run in 2 weeks. |
![]() ![]() |
Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ihave to say some heat and maybe a little humidity would have been nice yesterday and today. I had a very boring 10 mile treadmill run yesterday because it was very cold and rainy. Today was not any better. I had a 50 mile bike. It was cold and windy. My first 25 was straight into 15 MPH wind and I averaged 17 MPH. I was actually happy considering the conditions. My return 25 miles I averaged 23.5 MPH. WOOHOO, that was fun. Now if one of you southerners could just push a little heat north we could get outside a little more. Have a great rest of the weekend everyone. |
