Happy Tuesday 10th July to everyone.  I am loving today so far.  first of all the awesome swim last night.  Then this morning 1 hour on the drainer, cranking up through the gears every two songs!  And then a lunchtime run 6km in 40mins.

In a good place right now!

Hope everyone else has a great Tuesday!

Great job, Jen.  Glad you are feeling well enough to get out there and hit all your goals!  Sounds like a fun race, I look forward to next week's RR as well.  Happy Anniversary!

My 11 year old son is doing a kids' distance triathlon in August. He just came into my room before he went to bed, lifted up his shirt, and said, "Do I need to put band aids on my nipples for my race??"

I thanked him for making my day. That kid.

It's a one mile run. I told him I thought his nipples would probably be just fine.

OWS 2.75km tonight.  More waves this time--I don't know the technical term, but those rolling waves--don't crash over you or anything, but you sort of end up body surfing them.  I was forced to breathe to only one side, which is fine, I can do that, but I learned a lot tonight.

1.  I was not comfortable for the first 800-basically my warmup.  That initial HR spike, until I get over it, I struggle.  So, with having to breathe to one side, had to go with every 2 strokes.  Realized quickly that when I do that, I don't rotate well to non-breathing side, so focused on that until I started to feel comfortable. Once I got through the spike, was able to go to breathing every 4 strokes.

2. My kick was being thrown off by the waves, which was then throwing off my stroke.  So, I stopped kicking where necessary and just went with the flow.

3. This one seems like it would be obvious, as I have read it many times, but need to find landmarks rather than looking for the buoys.  Sun and waves make them difficult to see, so I need to remember to find them, then pick a tree, end of the pier, or whatever to head towards.

So, along with learning a lot, I also actually swam faster than 2 weeks ago--last time 58:50 for 2.6km, this week 60:32 for 2.75km.  Feeling pretty ready for the swim leg

Out of the mouths of babes.  Love it!  Question though--was he happy with the answer or disappointed? Wink

Great job on all the racing everyone. Nice to see you all finish safely with no injuries. will catch up with the RR's and comment soon.

Well done on the good samaritan role kirsten. The boy will remember you for all the right reasons and realise that humanity is not all bad. I'm with Kirk, I hope they catch the ars*hole.

Hey Kirk, stop wasting beer out of your nose. Early Sunday morning drinking is too precious an experience.

Salty, even i know the cycle ride is a bad idea. And i thought you had the taper madness under control.

As for myself, had a quiet weekend training wise (read as 'did nothing') as i had lots of stuff on. Now bouncing off the wall so will be back at it with a vengeance today.  SB and R are planned for today with the bike and run done as a brick hopefully.

Have a good Tuesday y'all.

Blech ... want to read Kirk's report and scream at a few more Tri Talk posts, but ... I'm really about to puke.

I've STILL been seasick all day today from yesterday (and in some pretty wicked pain ... never been this sore from a race although the 70.3 I did that was windy and I was riding an upright bike position with cruiser bars comes close) ...

So sorry you are not feeling well. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I've only been here a little over a year and I think I've figured out that there are cycles for Tri Talk. Some really good Q&A's, some helpful info, cool bike pics, and some funny stuff is generally what I find. Then every now and then something happens, maybe the lunar cycle, maybe everyone tapers at the same time, I don't know what it is. And it just goes to He77 in a handbasket. And then it stops and things go back to normal. I'd love to commission a formal study to figure out what drives this cycle.

I hope you get in some rest and recovery.

That is AWESOME SAUCE right there! Keep it up. What is the goal for the year?

You should have nice weather. A cold front came through last night, and today it is overcast, misty, and 85. Wow.

Downright chilly compared to the past month, no?

That is pretty darn good. Anytime you can get out of the water with a better understanding of something that is going on in there is cool. I do think that some training is for the body and some is for the mind. And all of it is good for the soul. It sounds like this one was all 3, good job!.

Kirsten, nice job on the swim improvement! I wish I could get some ocean swims in before Oceanside.  I've a feeling the waves will "throw" me (no pun intended).

Jen, glad you had fun at your race.  Sounds like a good time, and I agree that any day with Coldstone is a good day!

Chris, I'm with you on the Tri Talk cycles. I've been here for about a year as well and it's funny to see the phases.  Once in a while there is a gem of a thread that is really entertaining (even if not relevant to training).

Felicia, your son's comment is adorable.  Maybe he wants to wear the band-aids to feel "legit"...

Speaking of funny things said... my co-worker, who is not a triathlete and "tolerates" running, was checking out the website for my upcoming tri because I told her it goes right past her house.  She was quite alarmed when she noticed that she is 3 pounds shy of being an Athena.  Funny.

I went paddle boarding in the sound last night. I got this strange sensation someone was following me and I turned around to see a seal pup right off the back of my board. Just at I got my camera (out of a ziplock bag) he ducked back under. Some other girls that were out there said he had been playfully chasing me for about a mile!

Smart seal pup stalks pace booty.

AWESOME pic!!! (and others I've seen you post ... somewhere ... I'm STILL hazy and tired from Sunday! Soreness pretty much gone but rolling seasickness and fatigue remain).

Yep, been taking antinausea meds but sparingly since they make me even more tired.
