Usually I spend the day before a race packing, planning, and preparing, but there is literally nothing to do for a HM. There is no gear to check. There is no transition to plan. All I have to do it pick up my gatorade and fill my bottles. The lack of things to do it making me nervous!! |

Juan Way to finish up strong! How fast are we going in the pool these days? Not too bad, swimming each 100m between 2 and 2.06, my main problem is that I am skipping 1 out of 2 weekly swims...need to get in the water at least twice per week! Juan Nothing has helped my swimming consistency more than joining masters. Not only has my technique, speed, and endurance improved, but since I'm paying extra every month to be part of the team, I make sure to get my money's worth!! Your results may vary if you aren't cheap like me though!! |

Do you guys track calories etc via myfitnesspal? Also what is your activity tracker preference? I got a vivoactive by Garmin and I am enjoying it so far. |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN ^^^. Yes on My Fitness Pal, there are a few folks on here who do. Good stuff. For tracking I have a Garmin 920xt. I paired with speed and cadence sensors for the bike for the last couple of years but recently picked up some Power Tap pedals to start working with power and see how that goes- huge learning curve with this and my consistency cycling isn't there yet. 2500 yds in the pool today . Kids had a half-day so, glad to have gotten it in early. |

I'm nerby14 if you want to connect! I also have a vivoactive. I love it. I'm not sure I would use even half the features of the 920, so the vivoactive is perfect. |

I've got something for you to do - think about what kind of ice cold beverage you want at the finish line - a very important decision. Good luck. And remember.... you're a machine! |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN For those of you that prayed - thank you! I had a good job fair today - and while it will continue tomorrow (nothing like a two day event to stress someone out), I really appreciate everyone's kind words. As for working out.... I rode the stationary bike at the gym for 40 minutes and got in a 2 mille job. at 5 minutes walking and 1 minute jogging - I have a long way to go. But unfortunately - the side of my left foot still hurts so I can't really push my training. 66 days to Boston |

Juan Still - that's fast for only 1x per week! Just think how fast you will be when you get in the pool more! |

Veteran 1677 Houston, Texas | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Originally posted by nicole14e Originally posted by ligersandtions A touch warm?! This has made me curious. What is everyone's ideal running temperature, assuming no precipitation and little wind? My ideal running weather is right around 65F-70F. I love being able to run in shorts and a tank/tshirt. Also, my ears get cold really easily, which causes a headache, so it needs to be warm enough that I don't need to wear an ear warmer of some sort. Gretchen -- crazy weather! Hopefully race day weather cooperates for you (65F is a touch warm, but it beats the hell out of the 86F we had yesterday!). Wishing you all the best for your race....you've got this! For (run) training, anything north of 50F and south of 80F is good (especially if I can request low humidity). For (run) racing, however, it's a completely different story. If I could request 40F, blue skies, and a light breeze, I could PR all my races For anything having to do with riding my bike (especially if wet from swimming before...), I want it 60F or warmer! I'm good well into the 90's on my bike, though not for optimal performance obviously! |

I have this feeling that swimming is just "staying in the water till you really start racing", still don´t have the feeling of racing while swimming = need more days in the pool! Juan |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN For running temperatures I would say 40 F up to 70 F maybe 75 is comfortable. After winter is over I love going out when it's about 45-50, feels like warm heaven. For cycling, 65-70 is about perfect, can wear shorts and tank and don't have to layer up. That being said, I bike when it's 30-35 here if the roads are good; have the neoprene booties, winter cycling jacket, huge cycling gloves, balaclava, etc. It is a pain to layer up I'll admit but one more day outside is lovely compared to the trainer. |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN My Be Iron Fit Half Iron Secrets book just came in and I'm about done loading my plan onto an excel spreadsheet (nerd here). I've been using my full Iron plan but half iron is a different race, different strategies so I wanted to see what the Finks had to offer. After my June HIM I may switch back to the full plan if I end up doing King George on Labor Day weekend (Oly on Sat, HIM on Sun). We shall see. Skiing today - though it's -25F with windchill at the base lodge today. Hhmmmmm |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Jenn--I used the Be Iron Fit plan for my HIM last summer. It worked well for me. I think I did the intermediate plan, but I added an extra swim each week. They only put two in each week. I love swimming, so I added extra! |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN I saw they make a 3rd day an optional day - interesting! I will be doing what you did and certainly add that third day in. It's an interesting plan, there isn't one day that's completely off. The full plan has Mondays off. I may end up making a bit of a hybrid out of the two, we'll see how it plays out. I'm glad I got the book though. |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN I forgot about the no off day thing! Probably because I didn't do it! Every Sunday, my off day, I sat down with my calendar for the week and planned out my workouts around my schedule. I rarely did anything in the order they said to do fit in. |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS)--OPEN Hi all! Ran my HM this morning. It kinda sucked. Ok. It sucked a lot. At mile 11 I thought "this running sucks and I didn't even get to swim or ride first!" I think I'm certainly a tri girl. First five miles were great, I was even coming in under goal pace a little. It felt good. Little did I know it was all going to go off the rails very soon. Passed water station just before mile four. If I'd have known it was the last one for four miles, I'd have taken two cups!! Then the road turned from gravel to little more than a really wide trail for the next four miles. I was certainly not prepared for a trail run! Aid station at mile eight was out of water, but had Gatorade (thankfully). Aid station at mile 10 was actually completely gone. All cleaned up and packed away and GONE. The last aid station at mile 12 thankfully had some water, or I'm not sure I would have finished. If you're doing math, that is no water for eight miles!! Ended up 10min over goal for the race. They also ran out of all drinks at the finish line, but I had friends who ran who hoarded some for me. Frankly, I'm just happy it is over!!! Also, people aren't as nice at running races! |
