Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Originally posted by MOlsen Wow, what a weekend at Wildflower. Spent Saturday paddle boarding, hiking, and a bit of biking around the campground before spending the afternoon at the festival area while enjoying a couple good beers (Union Jack IPA by Firestone) and live music. Sunday was race day, here is the race report. I was sporting my BDAS jersey and there were a bunch of fun comments on the course. During climbs on the bike I heard "a beer sounds good!" a couple times and was nicknamed "Hops Guy" by one of the runners in the pack suffering up the long hill. A volunteer at an aid station yelled out "BDAS? More like BADASS !!". After the race I celebrated with the new Lager by Firestone. Not my usual Racer5 IPA however they have shown how to make a good lager, crisp with the perfect amount of bitter hit the spot on the hot afternoon. Just got around to reading your RR - awesome! I share your hill-riding experience (passed on the climbs, pass on the descents). |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Originally posted by jmhpsu93 Yesterday was almost an hour of incline treadmill walking and then "ran" some stairs (all eight flights at the Merritt Nicole!!), followed by a ton of leg, hip, and core strength work, probably the hardest session I've done in six months. Then got up today and really struggled through a swim workout - it called for all-out 50s which I usually do around 38-40 seconds off the wall but I wasn't able to break 45 - just pathetic. I even just bailed midway through the last one. Got in 1800 of a planned 2300. Planning an easy trainer or outdoor ride later today. I repeat, EASY. Happy Thursday! Shoot, so if I'd gone this morning would I have seen you! All my friends bailed on me so I chose sleep (which was much needed, but still!). A rough swim after running all those stairs is not surprising! Don't beat yourself up about it. Enjoy the ride! |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Originally posted by drfoodlove Thanks for the tip on adjusting my saddle, Mike! I'll give it a shot tonight and then let you know the results tomorrow morning ("long" ride of 1:45). Just a quick strength training day for me today. Already in the books. Torqued my neck doing the ab machine wrong (apparently, you can't lift your body with your neck muscles). I'm hoping it is a short lived soreness. I have a history of neck spasms, so a little afraid this might develop into a full blown issue. BUT, while I was in Egypt, a nurse friend of mine got me some super muscle relaxants that actually work, unlike what my doctor prescribed, which don't work AND put me into a four hour coma every time I take them. No need for the quotes, that is a long ride! I don't know how ya'll do it! Hope the neck feels better soon! |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Went for a run this morning and felt awesome (surprisingly, since I drank a little too much wine last night :-). Taking yesterday off was a good decision for me. I ran 3.59 in 8:24 pace. Might try to get a longer run in this weekend in case I still do the Oly next month. My friend is doing the bike portion next weekend and is going to decide whether she wants to switch to the sprint or not. I will likely do whatever she does. I can't imagine biking 25 miles at this point. Going to get my bike out of the basement this weekend finally haha. |

Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Not as much as I would like this week, a couple days at the gym on the elliptical, easy paced 3 mile run yesterday, and a couple short bike commutes. This weekend I plan to go for a good bike ride (30 miles or so) and a trail run of about 6-8 miles. Weather is looking great and I have the time so I'll put it to good use! |

Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Help I've fallen and can't get up! Old school BDAS member here looking to jump back in. I've been out since IMFL in '15 and thought hell I'm and Ironman I can do what i please. Well fast forward to 6/2019 and I've put on 90 pounds and can't swim more than 100 yards. I'm back to training everyday for the past month and need some motivation. This is why I came back in here. I have a sprint in Sept. that I'm not too worried about but I want to do a full again in March. I want to break into 1derland by Sept and I'm sitting at 250#. Tall order but I think I can get there. Gonna start using LoseIt again like DQ got me started in back in '14 |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Just over 23 miles in my long ride for the week. It was a little rough, as I accidentally let myself run out of water (yes, I need water over that distance). Last 8 miles were really mostly a search for water, but I made it in the end. Bike fit is good. Still playing with the saddle and trying to decide if it is right for me. Otherwise, bike needs to come together much better for him in October. Of course, it would help if I don’t have to stop for a saddle beak every three minutes. Anyone have experience with a short nosed saddle? |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Long run truncated to a short run this morning. About 1.5mi in my left hip and right shin started to hurt; hip at the joint. Shin feels muscular. Gonna keep an eye on that. |

Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Hey, guys. Alan is doing Eagleman 70.3 this morning, I think shooting for 70.3 Worlds and maybe Kona for that matter. I got in 1300 at the pool and a little over 20 miles riding, with a couple PRs on Strava segments before the skies opened up and I had to build an ark. |

Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Sounds like a good weekend for a bunch of us! I went for a 24 mile bike ride and a 6 mile trail run. It was a little humbling on my bike ride when I was pushing about 20 mph and the local college cycling club flew by me like I was standing still. My plan for the week is just to keep moving and get some sort of a workout in each day. |

Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open 30 minutes on the trainer this morning (VO2 max intervals) and a swim workout later today provided I get myself there. Looks like the rain is FINALLY going to stop around here. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open My knee/leg was bothering me last night after my football game, so I woke up this morning to see how it felt before deciding if I was going to swim or not. Made the decision to stay in bed (the rain didn't help my motivation). Possibly going to run after work, but might also just wait and run tomorrow morning. Cleaned out some of my basement Saturday and have someone picking up donations tomorrow so might do a little more of that tonight. Mike, this rain better stop! I feel like I moved to Seattle! |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Ran 4.2 mi this morning in 35 min. Felt really strong and leg didn't bother me much after it loosened up. Boot Camp tomorrow, swim on Thursday, then I'm off to Charleston for the weekend. Hopefully will get in some good runs down there (and maybe even a swim if I can find a local pool!). |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Found a pool just a few blocks from where I am staying! They also have masters practice, and all I have to do is prove that I'm a USMS member. Hopefully with at least 1 swim and 1-2 runs this weekend will not completely derail my progress! |

Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Got in a 1500 yard swim and an hour on the trainer before taking my daughter to swim camp at the Naval Academy - spent most of the day hanging out there in Annapolis - FINALLY a beautiful day...sunny, breezy, and 80 degrees. |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Nicole, there’s a nice 50m pool in Charleston, SC called the Danny Jones pool or sports complex or something. It’s just southeast of the airport. The locker rooms are gross but the pool is good and is only $1 to go!! |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Thanks Jen! I think that one is a little further away than this other one I found though and we won't have a car. I should be all set though, and I warned the bachelorette I will be sneaking off in the mornings (assuming I don't feel too hungover). Somehow made it to boot camp this morning even though I went to bed around 11:30 last night. Today is a struggle though, and I have lessons after work, have to pack, and have a bunch of reading to get done for school...blah |

Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Nice 3 mile run this morning and yesterday I went for my first swim since after Wildflower last month. Without a tri on my calendar for the rest of this season I find it harder to stick with swimming whereas running and biking are easy. Hopefully I can stick to at least one swim a week so I don't have to start from scratch. This weekend should be another good bike ride and trail run, looking forward to it! |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open I managed to get my butt to Master's practice this morning. It was my first workout since Saturday--neck spasm. Dang those things HURT!! After masters, I spent 4 hours shoveling gravel in my drive way because the rock delivery guy dumped the entire load over about 1/3 of my driveway. He's new. Ugh...at least I can count it as cardio, right? Given the amount my back and abs hurt right now, it seems like it could be considered a good core workout too. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Help!! I just ordered some tri shoes (Louis Garneau) and I have SPD cleats. The bottom of the shoe has the slots for SPD cleats (and even says SPD on them), but I can't figure out how to install the cleats, since there is a little plastic spacer in the channel for the SPD cleats. I took out the insole of the shoe to see if I could remove it, but there is a second layer that is glued to the bottom of the shoe. There is a little rectangle where the cleats should attach, but my question is do I have to cut that out in order to get to the cover for the SPD attachment points? The shoes themselves seem to have a little washer like thing to attach SPD cleats to, but I can't figure out how to install that washer thing. I really don't want to cut brand new shoes!!! |

Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Got in 2K in the pool plus 45 min on the trainer before flying up here to CT yesterday, then an hour on the treadmill (still not running but got HR up there). Sprinkled in some core work too. Back home tonight, another swim/bike combination in the morning tomorrow. |
