SSMinnow - 2009-09-02 6:43 PM Unless I missed it, no one asked the all important question.....

Who is racing this weekend? We want details and goals pronto!

I'm not. Actually I am barely allowed to move between now and the 12th so someone give me something good to live by vicariously, please!

That's me!  I have a sprint this coming Monday.  I am feeling better and have had a couple day's rest now, so I should be good to go.  Let's see - 300m swim, 15 mi bike, 5k - 6min+2min+44in+1min+28min = 1:21 total... Oh, yeah, and to try again to beat my buddy Johnny...

Ditto...... Last Tri of the year on Monday as well!! Its a small town sprint.  750m-20k-5k....
15min swim-44min t1+bike+t2-27min run= 1hr 26 min
LETS DO IT ANDY!!!

Did this thing just get virtual???  Are we doin' this???  OK, its on - cause you just got served....  (one of my favorite South Park episodes...)

SSMinnow - 2009-09-03 8:23 AM Question for all the long distance racers in the group (HIM to IM to adventure races):

Talk to me about your morning of the race fueling routine.  What do you eat, how many calories, timing?  The reason I ask is I was talking to Steve and then to a few friends who have done either HIMs or IMs and things vary greatly.   You have the "Bulk Up" people who eat between 800-1500 calories (IM is the high side #) to those who eat 200-300 calories beforehand and rely on race nutrition to get them through things.  I am a light eater (maybe 200 cals) and consume about three hours before race time and then nothing.  While I wont be changing things for the HIM, I am wondering if I should be for my next training cycle HIM to IM.

So what do you do? why?

Last long run of this training cycle is done for me....9 more days.

I've only done the one HIM, Suzy, but it worked really well for me.  2 1/2 hours before race, 2 slices of multigrain bread w/2 TBSP of PB and one banana, non-caffeinated tea.  Calories came to 450.  Restroom before leaving for race.  (sorry, but this is very important to me!)  I hate using the port'o potties except for #1.  One gel with just a few sips of water 20 min prior to swim.   I experimented with this prior to long bike/bricks and it seemed to work well, I never get hungry as long as I keep up with my nutritional plan.  Swimming makes me really hungry, so it was nice to come out of the swim not feeling hungry.

interesting question. just got off the phone w/ fedex.  they tell me you need some sort of license to ship beer (alcohol) internationally and to receive it.  too much trouble.  if trevor comes down to lone star you could settle it then. that way loser would have to serve it too.

I have to toot my own horn a little    I took the Equinox back out for my second ride (saddle much better btw) and except for a  misalignment on the left aero bar, it is very comfortable.  But here are the cool parts.  I averaged 2 mph faster on my 25 mile loop and I passed a dude!  I passed him while he was doing 18mph and then hauled butt to stay in front .  He passed me about 4 minutes later but I was doing 20mph and he was up out of the saddle to do it!   Personally  I think he did it b/c he got passed by a girl!!!  He was all decked out on his Pinerelllo and Castelli shorts etc.   This is my ego jumping way out of control but it was cool!   he he he Kiss

Ryan, that for the advise on the helmet.  I knew I would hear from you!

Great job on the ride.  I am sure getting "chicked" made him get out of his saddle

I don't know how well Andy would do down in TEXASSSSSS wearing a pair of capri's...Even better they'd have to be a pair of Steve's..Wait it'd never work. We'd have a better chance of winnnig the lottery that separating Steve from his capris.

Darn.  Just found out from the doctor that I pulled/strained my left glut. Have to rest for a few days to clear this up. This isn't the time to have an injury with only a week to go until thebig race.  Bwtween that an the darned allergies I'm not feeling the best these last couple of days. Hopefully with a few days rest I will be good as new and can continue my taper training.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend.

We are headed to our lake house this morning.  Did my last ugly threshold ride before the race.  Hated nearly every minute of it!  Now it is a few OWS, some dinky Tempo run and a leisurely bike with the man....tick tock tick tock!

Hey guys - just wanted to say "Good Luck!" to everyone racing this weekend!

Also, a quick running/racing question.  I have a half marathon next Sunday (9/13).  I feel like I'm pretty prepared for it and have my last long run tomorrow morning.  Next week I plan to just do a couple of easy runs.  Here's my dilemma - my daughter's cross country team has a meet next Saturday (9/12), and the day starts off with a 4k run that's open to the public (you can probably see where I'm going with thisSmile).  I would like to do this race, although it would only be for fun - I certainly wouldn't be trying to win.  The only races I've ever done were regular road races, so I thought it might be fun to try this type of course for once.  I also think it would kind of neat to run the course that my daughter will be racing on later in the day.  I've never "raced" on back-to-back days before so not sure how my legs would handle it, but it's only 4k and I'd be running it easy.  I don't want to do it though if it's going to hurt my race on Sunday.  What would you guys do?

You've never run cross country, right?  The more "rustic" the course, the more ankle "action" you are going to have.  What is the course like?  Is it hilly, rocky, etc that would make it easier to turn an ankle?  Or is it grass with some little ups and downs?  I would be inclined to do the later, but probably would skip the former.  Just my non-runner 2 cents...

Rob - sorry to hear about the glute but Andy is right - it's taper time.  Plus now you have an excuse to get lots of butt massages from the Mrs. Wink

Andy- that was quite a picture of the cows on that link.  Don't think I want to see that in person.

Janet - I agree with Andy on the run.  Cross country running on trails has a higher propensity for ankle sprains - especially for a first timer.  The distance wouldn't be a problem but I would do a strong self evaluation of your coordination before you make the call.

Thanks guys.  The course is relatively flat - no woods or trails or anything like that.  It's a mainly grassy area near and through the ballfields.  I signed up, but I'll probably wait until that morning after I actually see the course laid out to decide if I'm going to run it.  It was only $10 so not a big loss if I decide to skip it.

All racers...good luck.  Kick some a** this weekend.  Looking forward to who gets pwned.

Rob, get the Mrs on that butt injury.

Suzy, enjoy the lake this weekend, relax, and (I know this is impossible) try to not think about training.

Everyone have a safe weekend.  I get to meet my first 100 year old man - his birthday party is Sunday.
