fattyfatfat - 2009-09-11 8:56 AM I'm reading what you guys are writing and I can just picture all of you and where you were that day, Chrissy Field, driving through the smoke, trying to go four  blocks, on the couch, in an office, by the white house, etc... I know its my version and not accurate but its still you guys. The fear, anxiety, anger....we all shared.

It was a powerful day.  I never understood why my mom got so upset over JFK's assasination and knew exactly where she was and what she was doing when it happened.  I certainly do now.

9-11 REMEMBER

Where were you?

At work, couldn't believe it when I heard a plane flew into the WTC - thought it was some sort of freak accident.  Went to the lunch room to see the video and saw the 2nd plane hit...  Then the Pentagon...  I remember not seeing any planes in the night sky that night - it was surreal as DFW is generally always busy with air traffic.

Good luck to all our racers!!!  Big, big weekend for some of you (Suzy and Rob!) - I know that you all have worked long and hard to be ready for the HIM's!

(That is not said  to diminish your race Steve   )

Very crazy stuff.

I have.  I think its sad.  On one hand, if it's true it does give an advantage to the athlete.  But to have something so personal splashed across the world's headlines would be very difficult to cope with.

I remember waking my wife up telling her unreal it was... Watch the news, watch the news this is crazy!!!  We just laid in bed in disbelief!  Couldn't believe what we were seeing.  Only to realize that my cousin worked @ the WTC!!! After numerous calls we realized that she was out of town that day!  I will never forget the feeling of helplessness that day!  So So sad, and unreal!

Birdy--you are the king of positive thinking!  Tomorrow isn't going to be hard.  It is going to be a challenge your rip apart into tiny little pieces.  Remember what you and Roni went through in Boise?  This is a cakewalk.  Buck up!

9-11 REMEMBER

Where were you?

I was in the hospital... not for a Pt, I was the Patient.  On 9/08/01 I went in to the hospital with crippling abdominal pain.  After a few hour in the ER I was sent into surgery.  I had a congenital problem with my small intestines and the Drs removed some of the small intestine...  (kinda gross, sorry - no idea why it had never been a problem before then).  The guy in the bed next to me said 'Hey, are you watching the news?  A bomb just went off in the Twin Towers in New York."  I was glued to the TV from then on - for weeks!!

I sat the next week in the hospital unable to leave... unable to go help my brothers.  The service I worked for a the time sent a crew of the SpecOps team (which I was on) to Ground Zero.  I was so mad that I couldn't go help.  When I was cleared to go home, I still couldn't go back to work for another 7 weeks.  I watched too much TV in that time.  If I'm home and it's on TV (now) I'm watching it.

Canadian point of view.....
I was getting ready to head into work. Had the radio on. They said a plant had hit the WTC. Similar thoughts as everyone else. It was some weird accident they thought. By the time I had gotten into work, they knew what was going on. I remember going for a coffee with a coworker when we saw live coverage of the 2nd plane hit. Blown away by it. We had alot of people in our office that dealt with brokers in those buildings. Most of them were okay, but one of them didnt make it I believe.
We were told to go home late in the morning, as living in a major Oil & gas hub in the tallest towers of downtown, they were concered that there may be more planes.
I was glued to the coverage for the next week. I was not directly impacted by the events like some of you folks. I couldn't imagine driving through the smoke of the plane!!!
It really truly is amazing how the world has changed since that date.

I was in Bellingham, WA - about as far from NYC and DC as you can get and still be in the continental US.  Reading your accounts is really the first time I've heard firsthand from anyone so closely associated with any of the events and it is quite moving - thank you for sharing.

I had my first post-college interview on the 10th, it went well and I celebrated in true 'college' style.  So needless to say, my first glimpse of the events on television through tired eyes had me thinking it was a movie.  Once the phone started ringing and the realization that it were real hit me, I could not pull myself away from the TV for days.  Emotions ranged from disbelief, to anger, to pride in the response of our country.
I've always felt that the playing of the National Anthem deserves our attention and respect, and that has only been heightened since that day.  We need to take that moment to think about what it means to be free and  to be thankful for those that have served or are still serving their country.

I think SOMEONE has a birthday on Saturday.  I am wondering if I am the only one who didn't get an invitation to the party?  Tony, did you forget my address?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  How old will you be? how old do you act?

Ahhh Suzy good question.  Yes he is going to be 38 but it doesn't act much older than my son sometimes!!!!!!!!!!

Like when HE starts throwing food at the kids at the dinner table or "pants" myson.  Both of which have backfired on my darling husband.  Just ask him about the meat counter at Whole Foods.

TONY--care to comment?

And by the way, changing AGs is sweet IMO. You will be the youngest old guy in your bracket.  Much better odds to podium!

I was not even there but yes my son walked up behind Tony while he was bent over picking some chicken or something and pulled down his shorts, boxers and all, to his ankles.  I do believe he was in clear as far as having an audience but still a lesson learned.

I was driving my daughter to the baby sitter.  Thinking about how absolutely gorgeous the day is.  I was actually planning on heading straight to the course and not working.
Then over the radio comes the news.  Went to work and Dad and I watched the coverage (my dad and I work together) for awhile.

He can remember Pearl Harbor and everything since (born in 1936).  We spent the afternoon cruising town in the Chevelle, listening to radio coverage, and talking history.

It's interesting to hear everyone's perspective.  I've read people's stories, but never gotten firsthand input from people I know and respect.
