I felt horrible on my run today even though it still was a 10:48 per mile for 4 miles.

Lets see if anyone can tell me why I felt bad:

Starting with yesterday

Got up at 5am had 2 cups coffee and went for 11 mile bike ride.

after: .75 cup of honey bunches of oats and 1/2 cup pf 2% milk

coffee, coffee, coffee and so on

Dinner: cup of mashed potato's, 4-5 oz of Ham, cup of green beans

coffee, coffee,

snack on some fritos maybe 15

Last night sleep: Not more then 2 hours straight between 9-4

Today between 4am and 6pm:

2 cinnamon raisin bagels, 10 baby carrots, 4 cups of coffee and maybe 16 oz of water

Todays Temp when running was 80 degrees.

Any ideas on what I did wrong? Yes this is the truth and yes it is a test.

If I may... Caffiene, dehydration (as someone else suggested), lack of sleep, and still doing a pretty rigorous training regime. My guess is that your bp may have been elevated, still a possibility of carb crashing/ or your blood glucose levels spiked midway through the run, do you check blood sugar? More than likely you were mentally running on fumes despite being able to complete each training session successfully, it just seems your system was not calibrated to what you had scheduled. Did you have any jitters, or feelings of elation, shortness of breath, or any signs of chest pain? Other than the guess work, it doesn't seem like you ate enough either, not to mention possible signs of heat stroke.

Yeah,  It took me all of about the 1st 5 min of the run to say:  "Okay this wasn't a good idea".  Hadn't thought about the last couple days and when I did first thing that came into mind was "Hmm,  Water once in a while would have been a good plan" oh and "Gotta quit eating green beans and carrots".

Josh,  My Polar took a fritz so I just use time and breathing to figure how I am doing.  I have never taken a blood sugar count, in fact I haven't seen a doctor in over 15 years.  Elation? (I have to find out more about that side effect) NO,  but I was seriously thinking "Why did I start this SBR thing in the first place?" and "Why did I ever think I could run 13 miles?".  I also wasn't very nice to be around when I got home.

LESSON LEARNED:  DRINK. DRINK, DRINK and then DRINK just a little more.

why did you ask about feelings of elation?

Sometimes elation is an emotional high (euphoria) that can be caused or indicative of jittery feelings, low/high blood sugar, caffiene OD, or other serious cardiovascular problems. Anxiety issues may have been at play too.

Well, perhaps, it was just an off day. I know that even if I'm able to kick out large quantities of milage one day or even several training sessions in a row, some days I could either care less (no motivation), or that lack of motivation can sometimes manifest into feelings of making a mountain out of a mole hill. It then affects everything else snowballing and making me feel like complete junk. I have to say though it's these times that are the true test of athletic prowess. Have you ever felt that way before a race though? Getting all pumped up, knowing you've trained hard, right, and true, and then come race day it's not that you've overtrained, it's more the fact that you dread the day in day out part of this lifestyle?

Not so much on the coffee though right before a run, I guess? Water right?

Stick with it, results don't come overnight! Just think that after all this hard work, you're going to have the flattest tummy ever!! Positive thinking, right?!

Hmmm... let's see. No water, no food (2 bagels and 10 baby carrots between 4am and 6pm are you kidding me? ) no sleep?

And your prior day seems really light on calories as well. I'm only seeing about 800 or so calories consumed (and that's giving you the benefit of the doubt.) You know you can't replace all your calories with coffee. And where's the water to balance that out? Did you drink ANY water the day before?

What's surprising is that you managed a 10:48 mile on that.

It's not the green beans and carrots messing you up, it's the fact you didn't have enough fuel and for sure, not enough water.

Hey skinnies, sorry I've been out of touch.  All is well, other than all of the sweet-tart jelly beans and the 2 cadbury cream eggs I ate!  I was not feeling all that great last week and just kinda ate whatever my body wanted, so tomorrow is not going to be pretty.

Although at the gym today I realized my running shorts are sagging in the butt!  I know i'm trading fat for muscle, but I would love for the scale to eventually show some progress!

Oh, last night I ate cola flavored Clif shot-blocks at my eCycling class.....granted I gave up Coke years ago, but these thing did not resemble cola to me at all.

I'm on my first business trip since I started training for the tri and getting really serious about weight loss.

So far, I haven't done too badly. Yesterday afternoon after getting to the hotel, I immediately put on my swimsuit and went for a swim. Do you know how hard it is to do laps in a pool that is only 30 feet long? Dinner wasn't great, but at a bar, what do you expect. I did manage, however, to hold myself to one Jameson and Diet Coke, so I guess it wasn't all bad. Was up till around midnight finishing some work and exhausted with the 6 am wake-up call.

But I got up, changed into my workout clothes and went to the fitness room. And not only that, I had my longest walk/run ever!! A whole 45 minutes. My pace wasn't as good as I had hoped (18:45), but I finished the entire 45 minutes. Breakfast was oatmeal, fruit and skim milk. Lunch was some kind of steak (small piece) and a salad with lowfat dressing. And of course Diet Dr. Pepper abounded throughout the day

Now we're going to dinner and I'm not in charge, so who knows what choices I'll be faced with.

On a non-team skinny note, I've got a friend who is contracting in Iraq, and I haven't heard from him in 3 days which is very unlike him. I'm going out of my mind with worry and have a feeling I'm going to go into stress eating mode. I've been trying hard to be really good, but my mind is preoccupied with his safety.

Josh,  I seldom if ever feel bad about training or racing.  I sometimes don't want to especially on "hill" day,  but once I start I normally enjoy the heck out of it.

Cad,  I'm thinking it is the green beans and carrots.  See I told ya'll that veggies are sooo bad

Kappie,  There are places and times over there that contact isn't always possible,  so try to relax.

Aftermath of last two days:

Last night I believe I dove into a big pot of Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and drank close to 1/2 gallon of water.

Ran an "Easy" 30 min's at 4am and felt pretty darn good again.

Been starving all day.  Only thing holding me back somewhat is tomorrow is weigh in.

Forget the scale, just take measurements from now on. The tape measure is a nicer animal anyway.

As far as Cola flavored... I've never eaten any energy product that says this that is remotely cola flavored.  I think they just color them brown, put in some sugar and they are done.  Then they label it cola flavored because the unsuspecting masses will then buy it.

Today:  151.2

Up: .4

A couple days of inattention to eating and drinking.  UNDER eating and drinking led to this increase or it was the green beans and carrots.

Hi Skinnies - so here it is another weight report:

2 weeks ago: 70.6kg
last week: 71.3kg
today: 70.3kg

I know that compared to last week I lost 1kg but not sure if it counts becuase it was the "bad week" and I always put on weight then. But then again I didn't put on weight after Easter and after those few chocolates I had last night. Yes I ate chocolate -and it's not totally my fault. I asked everybody not to give me any chocolate for Easter but nobody listened and now I'm left with one quite big chocolate egg and a few chocolates. I don't buy sweets on my own but these were a gift. I've been trying to be reasonable about it- maybe eat a little once a week but I discovered I can't. Once I sin a bit - I sin big time. My attitude goes something like this: Forget it!!!! It is all ruined!!! All my efforts are wasted!!! I know it's really bad thinking (everything or nothing) because I'll always have to control my eating or I'll go totally overboard. Why can't I keep it balanced like those who have one day a week when they have a treat?

My goal for March was to be 69kg or less so haven't even got there - but then again have a few more days left right?

Hope it's a good news Wednesday for Everyone.

Great job Ceade,  We all  have our days or maybe weeks.  Just have to get back and try harder.  I used to wonder how people could run every day or bike or swim and oops now I am kind of doing that.  It all becomes a habit, but you still have to pay attention.  If you don't you may not eat enough or drink enough.

Bah! 146.6 this morning. Up 1 pound, but coming back down after being even higher...Easter eating was not good to me. (Or I was not good at Easter eating would be more accurate...we've had company since Friday, but yesterday was the first day that I ate properly.)

Still hope to hit 145 by the end of March...just need to be diligent...I've been so close!
