I'm tapering for N.O. as well - okay, cut-off by work would be a better term. It's sure going to be a busy year between trying to train for IMKY, work, and school. Need to find a job that pays me to train.

The anticipation of begining the official training program is getting me a little stir crazy and nervous.  This will be quite an adventure for me.  1st timer for a IM.

My advice is enjoy the whole journey. I can remember back before my first ( also my first year of tris so it was all new to me) and how in a one year timeframe so much changed , and my perception of things changed. I went for my first century ride and it took about 5 attempts to finally hit the number but then I went on to ride probably another 8-10 of them and now 100 miles doesn't seem near as daunting as before.

Also all the nerves, the questions, the anticipation, enjoy it all. It will be a long summer of training but I look back and have nothing but wonderful memories of that first year of tackling the beast.

Now i am trying to figure out how to tackle it but at a much faster pace so the day gets over quicker Laughing

Question for the vets, does anyone know the total climbing for the bike course? Just curious so I can compare my training rides elevation gain.

Today is the kick-off to my IMKY training and also a recovery week from New Orleans 70.3.....yay!!!

I have an issue though....why did I have to SCROLL  down to even find this wonderful thread of ours?  IMKY must ALWAYS be toward the top of the list of IM threads, lets get that cleared up!  Now back to your regularly scheduled training plan

Welcome back Abbie. I'll have to go check out your RR here in a few minutes. Happy recovery.

As far as getting into the race now, well, it's sold out. I don't know if there are any community slots open you could check into that. There is always volunteering. It's worth the drive to the race site and plenty of fun. Then you can sign up for next year. I don't think getting in this year is an option, though.

I know a guy that worked for SEMGROUP before they went under that was being paid $20,000 extra a year for doing triathlons! Yeah he had it made! Well until the company fell apart.

A question to all IM veterans: This will be my first 'event' of such length, and I'm using the BT IM training plan. This plan calls for up to 15 hours of training a week... and I'm targeting around 13 hours for the actual IM. Then... I'm spreading around the week the same effort that I'll be making in just one day (a hell of a day )... My question is: Where does the 'magic' happens? Will this training allow me to keep 'pushing' beyond the 3 hour mark (my longest event has been an oly) into the 'unknown'? Triki Triki

If you want to race your only option, as I see it, is to pick up a Ironman Community Foundation Slot ($1,300.00 that includes athlete registration and a $775.00 donation to The Ironman Foundation, Inc.). You could come volunteer and/or just cheer us on as well!

Got the green light today from the doctor to train.  I've got a herniated C7 disc in my neck and have done NOTHING for 9 weeks.  I still have pain (in my arm) from the herniated disc but I'll find out shortly if s/b/r is gonna make things worse.  If it does, I'll have to stop training and/or have surgery.  So basically I got the go-ahead to "force the issue" with this disc.  I'll be hitting the gym tonight to see how it goes.
