I don't upload them to the route manager, only to the training log.

HollyW - 2009-01-20 10:33 PM

Hello All.  I hope everyones week is off to a fantastic start.  I haven't been able to get on the message board for the past couple of weeks and wow did I have lots of catching up to do!!  It looks like everyone's training is going well so far.  Monday I will be officially 12 weeks out from my first race of the year.  I will be doing my first oly distance.....can't wait!

So, I was curious what kind of program everhyone is using to get ready for your race(s) this season.....i.e. are you using one of the BT plans?; did you get one from somewhere else?; do you have a coach that tells you what to do each week?; or are you just winging it?  I am using one of the training plans from the Triathlete Magazine Training Guide.  I basically swim, bike & run each 3 days a week.  I am also adding in my yoga and some strength training.

Hi Holly. I am using one of the BT training plans. It is for an Olympic and is a 20 week plan. I am going to use that until I am 21 weeks out from my HIM and then switch to that plan. The ones I am using are in the Silver plans.

So just curious if anyone here uses an online coach.

I was reading a thread about people uploading to training peaks and also BT is going to get a feature where coaches can change your plans and such.

The BT plans are great but I think I want to get a plan that is customized for me and my events I am doing throught the year + ones that as I get faster (hopefully not slower) the plans gan be modified.

Not sure if you're serious or not, but I'll bite.  On your training log page, the globe looking thing to the left of your goals takes you to the Route Manager.  You can store your routes here, then pick them in your training log when entering workouts.  If you have frequent/favorite routes you can compare your results on them over time.  You can also upload routes from Garmin and store them here.

Thanks Matt... I never really spent anytime with that thing... Nice to know.

Tony?! To each there own.  The nice thing about a coach it that it will keep you motivated, they can tweak your plan based on your schedule that week (big bonus!), and they will (most coaches, or the good one's at least) make a schedule based on your needs, wants, goals, and abilities!!?

I did use a coach one year and it was nice.  This past year I still had the schedule from 2 years ago (from the coach) and reused it....  They can be pricey.  I think if I were to do it again, I would go w/ a local coach that can see you swim, bike, and run... THEN GIVE YOU INPUT!?!?

I have used the same online running coach for three years.  I never would have gotten to Boston without him.  We set goals at the beginning of the year, he puts together customized work outs by the week or two-three weeks depending on what is coming up. I log them on his web site, have an email exchange with him several times a week to discuss how things are going/ask questions and probably a call once or twice a month, more leading up to a race

I find it very advantageous to have someone looking at my plan, tweaking it based on results, and reprimanding  me/encouraging me when necessary.

The key is finding the coach with a philosophy similar to yours.  My first one was used to working with elites and pushing them hard.  My current coach got me better results, but sees the benefit of balance.  He is also reasonably priced.

The hard thing for me now is I am starting to transition more to triathlon and that is not his forte.  The thought of giving him up is hard and one.

Good morning everyone and Happy Thursday to all. I am off to the gyn to see if I can workout a lower abdominal muscle tightness. I m not sure if I pulled something yesterday playing hockey or its just tight because I did a bunch of ab stuff after.

Mornin, hopefully my day gets better.  Picked my 2 year old up out of bed, diaper leaked, had to change my suit that I was wearing...

Looking for my keys for about 20 mins cursing myself for not putting them in my normal spot.  My 5 year old asks me what I am doing and I tell him, he responds, Gabriella (my 2yo) had them yesterday and was playing with them.  25 minutes later we finally find them in a closet...

I identify with your life!!!

When my mom was visiting last week she counted 7 times in the time span of an hour where I was asked, "Mom/Tracy, where's my...."  Honestly, life would fall apart without us women!  Cool

Morning everyone!  It's been a pretty good week so far despite missing the group run on Tuesday night.  My shoulder's giving me a little trouble this morning though.  I think it's from the swimming last night.  I tend to breathe on my left side only (the right side just feels wrong) and it's my right shoulder that's tight today.  I'm going to have to concentrate on the bilateral breathing.  I think I also need to learn to slow down.  I have a tendency to try to rush through my swim workouts.  I kind of feel like I don't belong there taking up a lap lane for my short little workouts when there are a lot of other people doing longer ones and there are only 3 lanes for us to work in.  Nobody has ever said anything about it (and I don't really think they would - I'm sure they're more concerned with their workout than mineEmbarassed), it's just a mental thing I need to get over.

Anyway - hope everyone is having a good week!

Janet

In the states GYN is short for gynegologist...  I HOPE THAT GOES WELL FOR YOU !!!!

Janet, the pool is there for YOU!  It is intended FOR YOU to get YOUR workouts in!  Don't let others bug YOU!  I am not sure how it works at your pool but let others join with you in the lane?  I have swam w/ up to 4 people in the lane at a time (I hated it BIG TIME).  You just swim loops in the lane.  Down one side, back the other.  It does get a little tricky w/ people swimming at different speeds, but once you get in the pool for YOUR workout.... IT'S ALL ABOUT JANET, and WHAT JANET NEEDS TO GET DONE, and FOCUS ON!!!

Hang in there!

I agree except for all the caps : )

The more you get used to working out the more you learn to ignore what everyone else is doing and focus on why you came to they gym.

As a guy it is very hard to let people pass me on the run, bike or swim at the gym.  It took me some time to get used to keeping my pace on the run when someone would blow by me.

Normally in the pool if there are 2 people you split, if there are more than 2 you circle swim, hopefully the pool has lanes setup by speed so you can stick with the slower lane (thats where I hang out)

Hope you didn't get a hernia if lifting your 2 yr old caused you to soil yourself.  How much does that kid weigh anyway?  Oh, wait, was it the kid's diaper that leaked

I agree Janet.  Try not to think about other people and enjoy your swim.  Try doing some single arm drills alternating sides with the laps.  It will force you to slow down and help with the technique.  And you're right, I'm sure no one is thinking about you when they're at the gym, and I mean that in a GOOD WAY!

Janet, one thing that helped me get bilateral breathing was committing to it for the first portion of my workout.  At first it was only the first 100 yds, then I could go back to breathing left if needed.  Then I'd bump it up each week by 50 or 100 yds.  It really was a challenge and I'd get tired more quickly and I really had to force myself to stick with it.  And then one day - CLICK! - it felt totally normal.

So you're addicted to bonktown also?  I almost bought those Time Tri shoes yesterday.

Okay I am officially stupid.  I was about to say, "I don't see any glasses (thinking drinking glasses) but there are a cool pair of pink glasses there now (sunglasses).  Can I go home now? I'm obviously not capable of doing anything productive today!
