louiskie - 2010-11-09 1:21 PM For my bike, go to my album. Low quality crappy picture but at least it is up. I can't seem to post it in here. Just a few more days. Weather forecast is looking good. I am with Daniel on the tri shorts...I do all my riding in mine so that is not an issue. I am fussing with what to wear on the bike though- 45ish and being wet is kinda chilly! And by the end it will prob only be up to 60 or so, so thinking of a long sleeve tech shirt under my bike shirt. We'll see.

Nice bike!

Thanks. She likes hanging out by the fire in the evenings. My wife won't let me do that often though but since the bike just got new wheels, she could chill by the fire for a bit! I'm planning on watching the weather closely. I know on some of my long rides I started in the mid 40s and it was 65-70 by the end and I was very happy in a long-sleeved riding shirt over my regular shirt, even once it warmed up because I was cold from the first few hours. Ah, fun little decisions!!

I'm seriously considering a sweater over my tri top & arm warmers that I can ditch halfway through. Maybe that's also a solution for you?

I toyed with the wal mart tube sock idea, and then tri shirt and bike shirt, so in T2 you just ditch the bike shirt, but I think 45 is too chilly for that. Hmmm, all good ideas though. Anyone get the sense we all need to just get on with it already!!!! :-)

Amen to that brother!  I am leaving the office in a few mintues and going home to pack.  I leave at 3:30AM in the morning for my 10 hour drive.  I plan on doing an afternoon swim Wednesday and morning swim on Thursday and Friday.  I think I am going with a long sleeve biking jersery.  My blood is thin living down here in Florida!

Swam this afternoon in booties and gloves to see how they worked. It just doesn't feel right. I am a slow swimmer and the added weight on my feet just caused my legs to kick even less then without them? I know they will come in handy for the run to ti, but just not sure.
What are other doing with booties and gloves? yea or nay?
Just doing the half.
thanks

For me, no gloves, yes booties. Did the half last year in booties and no gloves as well.

I got booties and I love em. Not as much as getting some booty, but almost! Wink  Keep in mind that you'll be standing around on the sand for a while, and it will be cold.

Well, bike is on its way.   Buddy who is doing the run as part of a relay team is driving so he is taking my bike.  For a pic of my bike just check my log (the pic is for NOLA 70.3 but it hasn't changed).  Plan on swimming Friday morning if I can get up early enough.  Found a few nicks in my wetsuit last night and will patch those tonight (nothing all the way thru).  Leaving Thursday morning!

No booties or anything like that for me...partly because Daryn (qrkid) told me to HTFU above! Just kidding. No booties though. I am going to splash around in Jordan Lake on Thursday and feel how 65 feels for a while. I'll post back. Other than that, almost time to start packing! Its a 2.5hrs drive for me so leaving on Friday. I am bib 372.

I am saying Nay on the gloves and booties. I can't give Louise oops I mean Louie crap and then use them.
Seriously. The run from the swim to T1 was pretty rough, but not omg I can't do this. As for standing on the beach before the race. You will get a bag that you number and you can put your sneakers, sweats, hats in that and they take it to T2 and so you will get it all back at the end of the race. No need to be standing in the cold pre race. You can most definately wear stuff and still get it back.

Just finished a nice easy swim and am starting to go crazy- ready for Sat. Bib # 299. No gloves for me and still am undecided about the booties. I did the half last year in a sleeveless, no booties/glooves and I was fine. The run after the swim didn't bother my feet. Swimming w/ sleeves this year. One thing I did last year that helped was to place a towel I could grab after exiting the swim on the way to the changing tent). This is my first full.

So back to the bootie discussion, this is an IRON man, right? Or is it a "call the wahmbulance and get me some booties" man? :-)

Good to know 65 was cold but not insane. And good to know about the run from the swim to T1...the forecast has me thinking the air temp might be a little warmer than last year (mid 45s this year) so that should help. And trust me guys, if Daryn can make that run without crying, we all can ;-)

I'll cry. I'll call a waaaammmbulance in a heart beat. I don't really give a damn

I'm also gonna wear my little booties for the swim and probably an underarmour cold gear shirt on the bike and run. Might even throw on a set of tights if my tucas is chilled.

I am packed loaded and heading out at 3:30 AM in the morning.  My wife is going to fly down on Thursday night.  I get finsihed loaded and she suprises me and says I have something for your trip.  She goes inside and comes out with this:

I swam in a cold mountain lake a while back, and appreciated the booties.  I'll probably wear them, but the jury's still out -- I'll feel the water on Friday and decide then.  No gloves.

Honestly, my plan on the swim in any case is to cruise it in slowly.  My swim training has been all but non-existent lately.  Then take it from there.

Good luck and safe travels everyone.

LOL that's awesome.  One thing I do have to remind myself of, is how easy it is to get caught up in the caution coming from everyone in the race thread (in every race).  It's easy for me to start thinking booties and such from all the talk, but in the end it's overkill for me (not judging anyone else).

I think I will do a double cap, but not neoprene cap.  I tested it tonight.  Wow it was tight! :-)

DanielG - 2010-11-08 8:57 PM Wellp, the wetsuit is in the bathtub for the night, soaking. It'll be ready to go as well.

Daniel - I am a newbie - how does soaking the wetsuit help ?  does it may it more flexible?

thanks in advance

Emilio (the owner of DeSoto) puts that tip out every year in the spring for longevity of a wetsuit.

Take the sponge beside your sink and fold it in half. Now leave it alone for a month and fold it in half. Now soak it in water and fold it.

Not the same material but the same idea, a wetsuit gets more flexible after its soaked overnight or all day and left to dry out a few days before your race. The only time I've ripped a wetsuit is when it was hanging up for four months prior to race day. Since I've followed his advice and soaked it a few days to a week prior to race day I've not had a rip.
