KSH - 2012-02-28 8:34 PM All right, so I know we have discussed this before, but there are 32 pages to dig through... so I'll ask again: What is a good hotel to stay at off 45 and near the race site? I am looking for around $100 a night. THANKS for the help! I am at the Holiday Inn Woodlands about 4 miles south of transition for $119/night. Not sure of they still have rooms available though. There are a few in conroe around 100. It is a 12 mile drive, but it is straight 3-4 lane freeway. Tomball is a few miles closer, cheaper (84.00 for hampton inn I think), but it is not an easy drive. I would book something now incase Lots of people want a short drive to the dave matthews concert on May 18th in the woodlands. Thanks. I'll look up some hotels in Conroe. I figured we would be going further up I45 or something. |

Champion 10471 Dallas, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Well, I don't feel my February totals were great. I did ALL my workouts though. 16.5 hours of riding (260 miles) 12.5 hours of running (66 miles) 6.5 hours of swimming (23,685 yards) My coach is taking it easy on me. Gave me a taper week for my half marathon (that was a training day), and then he only gave me 10 hours this week. Which I added some time to. It's just weird. I am going to make sure he lays it on thick these next couple of months. Shoot, I don't have a job! Ha! Otherwise, I can't run at all right now. I did something funky to my right foot at the half marathon. I was running and bam! this acute pain starting shooting through my right foot. It hurts off and on at this point. I can walk fine and it doesn't hurt... then it starts to hurt. It's so freaking weird. So this week I'm replacing all my run workouts with biking. |

Extreme Veteran 492 Frisco | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread I missed a workout here or there in February but none of the long workouts and it was mostly just life getting in the way. This month is serious with 3 build weeks then a recovery week, then I start getting ready for Galveston. Really want to throw down a good number this year. Not that last year was bad, I just know I can go faster. Managing to stay healthy so far (knock on wood) .. no colds, bugs, or other ailments have kept me out of commission so far. At this point, everything is sore and I have to pay close attention to all the little aches and pains because I dont want to go into the race hurting like I did last year. But so far, the changes to my training plan this year seem to be paying off. last months numbera are right where I wanted to be and I expect March to continue that trend. Oh, and did I mention that I cant stop eating!
I am planning a trip down to ride the course March 17th. If anyone is going to be out that day, let me know .. |

Master 2468 Muskego, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread My February is okay. I'm still slowly building up my running so a few of my short runs were done on the elliptical and I really just started getting back in the pool a week or so ago. But I feel good. With two IMs in 3 months I'm trying to be smart.

Gotta just flip the page and move on. Got in a nice 90 mile ride on the trainer this morning which really helped my mood. Now if I can just finish the week with a good long run tomorrow my spirits will be lifted again. 11 weeks peeps! |

I have yet to ride 80 miles and you are telling me I am 11 months out. I do plan on riding 100 during my spring break on the course!! I hope they spill the beans on the run and ride course changes soon so I can recon for everyone. My wife is done with her 1/2 marathon training so i will not have to fight for afterwork time, but she agreed to be on a 200 mile relay team at the end of March that will force me to find some help with my kids for a big training weekend. 11 weeks may or may not be a long time in our world; you decide!! |

Not a long time for sure, I have yet to be able to string together 3-4 weeks of solid training without some unexpected interuption to my training. We are looking at a break in the weather come about Wednesday so I am hoping to head out towards Lake Michigan next Friday and get in a hundred miler. I have my buddy coming in from Detroit who is a pro and wants to ride with me and in turn kick my arse so should be a killer ride....if the forecast doesn't change. I really need to dial in my nutrition on my long rides, I cramped bad today so I ordered up more Infinit which should be here mid week hopefully. |

Is she doing the Texas Independence Relay? Yes. We both work in Conroe ISD and there is a team that has been doing it the last few years. I want to do the race, but I have other training that needs! I was thinking of getting a team and doing the race that goes from the State Capital to the Alamo in the summer. |

Veteran 740 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Just thought I'd mention to everyone that water's available along the bike course at West Montgomery County Park, a couple miles north of Montgomery on 149. The water fountains are on the building in the middle of the ball fields, and you can ride right up to them. There's also outside water fountains near the football field at Magnolia High School near FM 1488 and FM 149, and inside fountains in the natatorium, if its open. |

The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Hope everyone's week is going well. I ran The Woodlands 1/2 marathon this weekend. It was a great race and my longest run for IM training. I rode part of the course last weekend and the hills were tough and I don't think I fueled properly, so going to conquer them again Friday. I have a 5 hr ride scheduled. I'm going to try to do as much of the course as I can. Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. Time is going by so quickly! |

Hey great blog about the course. Very nice to read and see pics of the course seeing my first chance to see it will be the middle of May. Any guesstimate on how many miles of chip and seal there are? |

Here are my thouhgts (with pictures): One word of caution I'd give is that the last third of the course (when you turn right on 1486 to head south) is likely to be tough on race day. It is very common for that time of year to have 20mph south winds. We were lucky last year, the wind wasn't as strong as it could have been, and I still saw a lot of people suffering. One good note is that this section of the course has a net elevation loss. |

I thought the chip seal went on forever and ever. In reality it was maybe a little over an house of riding, so maybe 25-ish miles. |

That sounds like the perfect day to me! |
