Okay, so both do happen to be my coaches, but I will happily provide many more pics of other gorgeous coaches ... For our wonderful lady-loving Manatees, that's Miss Sheila Taormina, who is probably history's greatest athlete. Four Olympics, three different sports, Olympic champ in one, world champ in another, ranked at one time top 10 in the third. KA-RAZY!!! Also the nicest person in the world--lady of deep faith and charity. Wow! Cool. Sheila was just out here a couple of weeks ago doing a clinic for our tri-club. Unfortunately I didn't get to go. I got Daddy duty and my wife got to go. Was able to meet her at the luncheon though. |

I promptly fell in love with her the moment I read about her (as she was trying to go to the Olympics for pentathlon), and when I actually got to meet and work with her, this turned to unrecoverable-girl-crush-hero-worship. And growing! Sinfully smart, too. And yet is able to convey the fruits of those smarts in very accessible ways to others. I really do suspect she is perfect. Well, her book could have been edited down just a little bit, but not very much. |

It went pretty well, it was just an easy 8 miles becuase I have computraining at 7am tomorrow. But I did have quite a few too-close-for-comfort passes by drivers...I really didn't realize how rude/clueless people are. I kept my anger to myself, though, and just tried to stay vigilant. It's scary, though - a guy from my tri club got sideswiped on last Saturday's group ride (I wasn't there) and got knocked unconscious. Fortunately, he was home from the hospital that day and is ok. And the driver never even stopped. Way to go!! How do the clipless pedals feel? It can be really scary. Just try to pay attention to your surroundings and be aware of all the cars. Sometimes that's all you can do. |

I got my sleeveless wetsuit today (early birthday present from the husband!)! I'm wearing the full wetsuit on Sunday at the Icebreaker triathlon, cause the water will be in the low/mid 50s (brr). At least the forecast calls for sun and 70s! I still say this will be the best way to spend my 36th birthday (and yet I still claim I am turning 25...go figure.)---also, its going to be a day off of work! I read all the posts of today and yesterday, but I admit it, I am just too sleepy to write anything coherent tonight. Goodnight all! Exciting!! Sounds like a chilly race! I don't know if you've swam much in temps like that, but I find that wearing two swim caps really helps. I stay a lot warmer that way. |

I so hate to disappoint Mona the elephant and the pirate piglets ... I will go to dinner with the surf piglets tonight and listen to their war stories while they hang around shirtless. And perhaps go to the beach with them tomorrow morning. But I won't do anything more than lazy paddling. I think we need to write a childrens' book about Mona the elephant and the pirate piglets now. It's a funny visual. Try to take it easy. I know that's always tough for you! {{{MELON PRESS}}} |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD jobaxas - 2012-04-14 4:59 AM Well it's Saturday evening - did I take it easy aftger yesterday's efforts - er no. So here's how my day went. drove to pool - 1.5km swim - first 400 at RPE 7 and was done in 7mins - very happy with that. 1.5km took 30mins all up. Drove to cycle track in my tri suit - my second outing with my clipping in business (should be called crippling in!). Anyway I'm great at clipping in - off I go, it's a great track about 2km with some badass incline where there is always a mean headwind - a good fast section too where you hit about 45kph before a turn and a pond!!! so half way round I thought, okay try and stop and clip out. Unlipped left foot as practised on trainer, hit the brakes and then instead of putting left foot down attempted to put right foot down which was still clipped in - gracefully landed in a heap below my bike! My first stack! Now if that had been on the road I would be under a car! That's why I use the track anyway, back on the trusty steed I got and vowed every lap to stop and unclip at the same point (so as not to get a phobia) - all good, I did it every time perfectly - okay it's far from elegant but it's better than it was! Other new things I did today, managed to drink from my bottle while moving! Also managed to peel and eat a banana while moving! Total session 50km in 2 hours. Hopped (staggered) off the bike and set off for a 30min wobbly run/walk. Done - about 4.5km didn't measure it, I just ran round a footy pitch! That my fellow manatees was an awesome session! I particularly enjoyed the bike which is the first time I've used the word enjoy and bike in a sentence. PROGRESS!!! And BIG THANKs to you all who think my 3km squad sessions are freaky! It's just what we do! Good luck to anyone racing this weekend. I'm off to have my 'tea' (dinner for the non Anglos!) Tomorrow just a 30min recovery run along the beach and put my legs in the ocean DIVINE. Yanti - stay well. Artemis - awesome name - get as much sleep as you can! Well done!!! It's totally normal to fall like that with the pedals. EVERYONE does it at some point. I've done it more times than I'd care to admit to even after being experienced using them. Enjoy the time in the ocean! |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD I went for a run today with baby Eleanor! We did 1.15 miles. Not huge, but I am making progress. There was a pretty big headwind, and running into that uphill with the stroller was quite a challenge!! Now I get to relax a bit. We walked this morning, and I just finished running. I have dinner in the Crock Pot - asian shredded beef that will be served as tacos with a coleslaw on top. It smells so good!! I love my Crock Pot. And the quarter of a cow we bought in December. |

I'm already writing one about Sally Rhino and the Ramaswamy Goldog. The children's book market is VERY difficult to break into. Far more difficult than the adults', and that's tough enough. Thank you, dear Badger Jen Moose (now THAT's a great children's character name! And you, too, are very real! Ha. Had to rescue Moose from the hounds again today, who were bickering over him ... WHO STOLE HIM OFF MY BED ... no one's allowed there). Actually I have spent most of the day resting after a failed (half)attempt at grocery shopping ... sadly, no dinner with the shirtless surf piglets, although I got several texts ... they are so sweet. |

I did run!! E loves the jogger. She falls asleep every time. Plus, I feel like people are more sympathetic to my pathetic attempts at running and general overweight out of shape self when I'm pushing a jogging stroller. |

Elite 4435 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD amd723 - 2012-04-14 11:20 AM Did a test run this morning to see how my hurting hamstring is coming along; it's better, but I still had to stop after 1 mile. When it is finally healed enough to run, it will probably take me forever to get back to long mileage. Very frustrating. On a more positive note, swam 3500 yds with my masters swim group this morning. The workout called for some IM swimming to include fly! Usually, we can opt to switch the fly to free, but not this time. OMG, keeping myself from drowning turned out to be a really good workout I was told my stroke looked pretty good, but I was not getting the 2d kick done properly (or at all). When we were told we could not switch out the fly, I made the mistake of telling the coach he better not be thinking of filming me. Of course, he hadn't considered that until I mentioned it and of course he then proceeded to do just that with the threat of posting it on his facebook page. I think it will be posted as a cautionary tale. Thankfully we don't get to do Fly that often and usually with fins as part of the warm up set. But Coach Johnny says that a badly executed fly is so good for you, the idea of fly is to get the feel of your arms and shoulders pushing down and back on the wter to lift you over your stroke - then translate to freestyle - mmmm hasn't happened yet! I find I get halfway up the pool with fly and then start sinking! At least i give it a go, half the squad just freestyle instead. In fact that's a little rant of mine - we have a few that come in my slow lane that won't do the squad drills. They just freestyle or pull buoy up and down the whole session which messes with the rest of us as we will either be much faster and have to wait, or they'll be faster and get cross that they are waiting. Don't see the point of coming to squad if you just do your own thing, waste of $6. |

Just watching the news. Hard for me to understand what it might be like to have to deal with such severe weather--we get some storms, but wind only, and rarely damage causing. Be safe!! We are okay -- under a watch where we are tonight (in Emporia, KS). Our home town was under a tornado warning from about 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. tonight -- the kids got very upset. We haven't been under an actual warning since the Greensburg tornado. But I think everything is okay (if the facebook posts from my students are any indication.) We are actually heading out for a short swim in the hotel pool now, so we aren't too worried. Yanti-- yes, almost all of those buildings are still there. I think the orientation is a little different, but the town basically looks the same (with the exception of the paved main street and the stop light (which blinks red and yellow 12 hours every day.) |

Yes, be safe. I love my Zoots, but it took me a few runs to transition to them (going sockless and with less support then my other shoes); hope you have an easier transition (hey, i just realized that's pun like ) . Oohh! Mine came in the mail this week, too. I'm not wearing them tomorrow because I haven't had a chance to run in them, but I can't wait. |

By the time I got home the winds were up to 45 mph so I was relegated to the drainer. I spent the first hour or so doing the SoCal Rides video then finished off with about a half hour of spinning watching 2011 Kona. (Pretty sure I was keeping up with Chrissie). I think I'm going to try to fit in a swim and run tomorrow (winds willing) because I have to travel this week and staying on schedule could be tough. I've been kicking around the idea of getting Zoots. Based on the comments here I might give them a try. Midwesterners please stay safe. Yanti please stay in bed! |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD OK I did it. Bought the Zoots. Decided not to go with the sockless (which may defeat the main purpose of getting Zoots) because I don't think I'll be sockless coming off the bike. Anyway I got the Zoot Otec from the REI outlet so after my dividend and the 20% discount they cost me $11.30. Not bad for a set of Zoots. |
