I need to swim more so I can turn pro and blow this gov popsicle stand |

Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread September was an off month for the bike as I had a lot of work travel, but the run was good and I had a good marathon a couple of weeks ago. The swim volume is typical for me, I never swim enough it seems. October is all about the bike. Swim: 6h 15m 49s - 19175 Yd Edited by kenj 2013-10-01 1:58 PM |

Member 26 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Originally posted by rjrankin83 Originally posted by mahuwf I finished just after dark last year and although I'm not totally sure when they started serving it, the first time I had it was at the aid station around mile 15 or so. Just be careful...that first cup was pretty hot. I don't know why...none of the others were. Thanks for the advice. Good luck at the ACT in a couple weeks. It was my first (and only) half with a cancelled swim last year. Hopefully better luck this year for you. It's a flat course and last year the run had a couple miles of hard packed trail (I liked it some didn't). If I can get off work I plan to be up there volunteering. I live 3 miles from the start and would love to race, but coach said no Thanks. Just sent you a message, rjrankin83. Edited by mahuwf 2013-10-01 2:00 PM |

Veteran 363 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread If I remember correctly last year we did not run the loop around the state park, but only to the beginning. The map that's up shows going around the park like in the prior years, has anyone heard or read if they are going to follow the map this year? |

Extreme Veteran 1018 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I think they are. Wasn't there some construction in the park last year? GCT 2013 went around the loop. Made the run much longer. I think I had 13.45+ |

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Run special needs: Put some clothes in there. If you have to walk more than anticipated you will not be generating the heat you do while running. It can get awful cold if you're out there walking slow and late. I like having a long sleeve tech shirt that I can tie around my waist. And a hat was already mentioned. I put in a little helmet liner. It can go under my cap if I need it - and I've used it all three times, even last year when it stayed warm quite late into the evening. I finish in the 13 to 14 hour range and it gets cool in the evening when you've used up all your reserves. Kind of light, but I'm doing the best I can. At this point there's only one week of build left then taper. Swim: 3h 23m - 10787.29 Yd Bike: 27h 42m - 408.15 Mi Run: 20h 13m 20s - 96.84 M |

I think we ran out and back type of thing............because I tried to stop at the truck that was teh turn around and they were rude crude and socially nacceptable..................I do'n thtink it matters really. The bottom line is if you are finishing after dark (like me) get a light for your hat for the state park...and all the other dark cornors of the race |

Veteran 363 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I know its still 26.2, just curious. I think I remember getting to the park on the 2nd loop while still light out, but maybe the heat had gotten to me already. That late in the race all I am looking for is the next mile marker and the girls with whips. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread The two years I did IMFL finishing in the 15+ hours, the park for the second loop is very very dark. I had a hat light first year. It helped but not enough in the dark of the park. Second year I found a tiny light I put in my rear pocket and used for the second trip thru the park. I had a little group with me through the whole park as many didn't have any type of light. After I left the park I gave my light to someone just entering the State park...good Karma and better than throwing it away. The small handheld flashlight was great in the park. Everyone getting excited? Last big weekend or two until taper time....nice place to be. |

Member 40 Rochester | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Swim: 21850 yards Bike: 844 miles Run: 130 miles I came off Achilles tendintis during most of August and leading into Vegas, so I didn't do much the first week of the month. Fortunately it was good enough to get me through the race, though it wasn't a great day for me. Knock on wood but I haven't had any issues since. Now that I survived that last three week build my goal is to show up healthy and rested. Two more weeks of moderate work and then two weeks of taper and it'll be time to go. I'm definitely getting excited and can't wait for it to get here. I'm turning the big 3-0 the day after the race, so I'm looking forward to ending my 20s with a bang. I hope everyone has a great last month of training/recoving/tapering. Avoid the Halloween candy! (It's the hardest part of my training.) |

There is a walmart very close to the venue. This is what I would suggest because it is far more likely to be colder rather than warmer 1-A pair of those $1 stretching gloves you can buy at target or walmart. You can throw them off if you don't need them

I would estimate they're probably 300ish yards away from eachother. Not more than a 7 minute walk at a comfortable pace. As for parking close to the village/bike drop-off...there isn't much. The police are pretty lax about parking on the street across from the village/race hotel/bike drop-off until Thursday afternoon-ish, then they start writing tickets and at that point the Walmart is probably your best bet for parking. |

And they WILL tow you. They will have a shuttle from the walmart parking area on race day. You can probably find something closer in the days leading up to the race. |

Member 26 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Originally posted by rjrankin83 Is the athlete dinner worth going to? I think it depends on who you're with. If you're by yourself or have some training/racing partners with you, then definitely go. If it's just you and the family, I would probably skip it. I went last year with my training/racing group while my family and friends stayed at the condo. Yes, it's crowded...no, the food isn't all that great...and yes, the program goes on a little long. BUT if it's your first Ironman, as it was mine last year, it's pretty cool to get in that room with all those other people and watch the "pump up" videos they show and just take the time to immerse yourself in Ironman. I say unless you would be deserting your family alone, try to make it...if for nothing more than to experience the environment and the energy. Also, they have a brief race meeting at the end, but it won't be anything you don't already know. |
