QUESTION - for those of you using clip on bar ends, how did you decide on type to get? I looked at profile design and the four models look practically the same except for a subtle bend in the hand grip part - confused!

I have not used clip on bars in a couple of years, since I bought my TT bike. The clip on bars I uses and liked the most were the single piece that came to a V on the grip. For me that was more comfortable than the 2 piece or the rounded one. Mine was profile design. It held up well.

30min bike commuting today and 1hr kayak after work in heavy wind. Kayak of course doesn't count here, but it's worth mentioning (since I'm really slack this month).

GREAT job Jackie!

Jim - good luck this weekend.

I'm scheduled for a long ride sat morning (3.5 hours) and a long run on Sunday. I have family coming to town (again!?!?) and we're off to cedar point amusement park on Sunday. If my admiral supports the idea I'm considering a race simulation ride/run on sat instead of ride and run on separate days.. What are the groups thoughts on how stupid that is? Was thinking 60 miles on bike (about 3 hrs 20 minutes and a 10 mile run at a moderate /easy pace,

The alternative is I do the bike, take Sunday off and push the run to Monday morning. My brother in law who is coming to town is my half marathon running partner and nemesis. If i can cajole him to get up we could do the run together on Monday.

That would be a hardcore brick, and then to follow it with a day at Cedar Point, Ouch! You would be better off doing the early morning Monday run. Your legs will not have any time to recover from any of the three workouts (I include a day at Cedar Point, because I know I feel like I was hit by a truck when I go there). I hope next week is a recovery week for you.
Ride the Top Thrill Dragster once for me. It is my all time favorite coaster, 0-120 mph in 4 seconds can't be beat.

Next week is a recovery week. Good point on the leg fatigue...plus add in 6 hours sitting in the car.

We sprung for the line jumping passes....I hope to ride top thrill dragster at least 6 times. It's my favorite too. Most awesome ride.

Gabe - Thank you for the congrats. While I have had a couple months with a bit more time working out, July was clearly the best month of multi-sport training I have ever put together. Sure I could have run a bit more, swam a couple more times, etc. But, on whole I'm really proud of the balance and consistency I put together this month. August will be tough with balancing fitness and family events, but I look forward ot the challenge.

august is my month, I can feel it in my bones (jinx!)

after a wu/cd 1K TT swim - 4:06; 4:16; 4:16; 4:10 = 16:48. Never timed this before but please as punch with the pacing! pushed the last 100 hard but easily push last 200 next time.

for someone who normally posts 1:30/100yd in a pool sprint, holding 1:41 for 1 K makes me happy!

Anyone done any Rev 3 long races? Feedback??

Dennis, enjoy yourself at your first tri on Sunday. You will remember it forever, so be sure to have a great time.

I am alive!

July has been one of the most difficult periods of my life for a variety of different reasons. Stated simply, week 1 was vacation, week 2 was spent dealing with a personal and professional betrayal of immense proportions, week 3 I experienced colitis flare up for the first time in nearly 3 years in which I missed an entire week of work and in week 4 i received a promotion that increased the size of my team from 45 to 145 people and brought with it meaningful increases in responsibility (and compensation).

Training was all but stopped during the later stages of week 2 and I proceeded to lose nearly 10 pounds due to illness (and stress). Cracking 150 lbs and 8% body fat is a really bad place to be, but I am on the mend and swam for the first time in nearly 3 weeks. In addition, my hamstring remains the same after nearly 2.5 months of PT, which I have discontinued. Heading for a MRI this Friday as my doctor is concerned about tendinopathy (i.e., permanent scar tissue on the high hammy tendon). If that's the case, treatment options could include PRP injections (spin your blood and inject RBC rich plasma back into the area to cause inflammation and accelerated healing). We will see what happens, but I am actually in a decent place mentally. The lack of training was actually a welcomed respite - but now I am getting frustrated with the nagging injury.

I will get caught up with the board. Hope all is well.

Joe - glad to hear from you. I know you were missed here. I've been through some similar things in the past and the amount of stress and the impact it has on one cannot be understated. Good to see you are in a better place! Hope to see you get healthy again!

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
