228 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open I consider running my strong point, so I'm pretty embarrassed to admit that my shoe choices over the last year or two have been pretty poor. (And probably contributed to my foot problems last year.) The result is that now I have a pair of Newbalance trail running shoes that serve as my daily runners, and a pair of Under Armour "running" shoes that I use for bike/brick/race. I haven't made the jump to clipless pedals yet, I'm debating if I want to give up my fast T2 times. =) Clearance racks at big-box stores are probably not the best way to shop for good running shoes. I'm looking into getting a nicer pair of daily runners. |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Got in 1850yds at the pool this morning with a 45’ “long” run this afternoon in the post-rain humidity! Holy heck it feels like July out there right now. I hadn’t even finished my 5’ warmup walk before I was soaked! Too soon for that nonsense!!!!’ |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Short run this morning. I’m starting to get my morning groove back, up early to get in training session before work. My “early” is still only 6:30, but it is better than waking up at 8, which is what I was doing all winter! |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Rest day yesterday, as I was spending all day filming a documentary on my work in Egypt. Hey ya'll--I'm gonna be famous! Ha!! If I don't come out looking as crazy as the Ancient Aliens guy, I'll be happy. Today, swim and run on tap later. Then, this weekend, FIRST RACE OF THE SEASON!!!! I'm excited! I'm also a little worried. I've only been on my bike outside once this season and my training up until April 1 wasn't that consistent. It is a "long sprint" of 300yds/20mi/4mi--everything is long but the swim. What does everyone else have on tap this weekend?!?!? |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Sooo...only a run today. Got to the pool this morning to find it chock full of swimmers at a meet! Either they didn’t advertise this pool closure, or I didn’t pay attention! Lovely run this afternoon on a beautiful day. Only issue is my HRM (brand new and freshly paired) wouldn’t read the entire run. As soon as I stopped, it started working. I have been wearing it around the house and intermittently checking it this afternoon. It seems to be working fine now. |

228 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Originally posted by drfoodlove What does everyone else have on tap this weekend?!?!? A little getaway weekend with Mrs Riles! A comedian we both like is playing a small-ish city nearby, which meant getting a room, which meant might as well make a weekend out of it. I plan to get a trainer ride in tomorrow morning before we go. I love to run in new places, so hopefully I'll be able to get a run in Sunday morning, maybe even with the Mrs. |

I already set a new PR for longest tire change today! 49' and three bloody fingers!! I could not get the tire levers under the tire! One more reason to hope for no flats during the race! |

Regular 1779 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Good luck for the beginning of race season Gretchen! Since my last post I've been pretty happy with my running, like I said I've been away, firstly down south to to my sister in laws farm, where I got to enjoy straight, pancake flat roads (and the little man got to enjoy tractor rides) and then back to Auckland and down to my parents beach house for a few days where I got to enjoy the complete opposite in roads, twisty rolling hills which is not the best for trying to keep a low heart rate, but makes for a nice and scenic route. And finally a run along the mission bay waterfront with a friend on Sunday. All up, 3 runs for 1 and a half hours last week, and 5 runs for 2 and a half this week. Not big numbers by any stretch, but happy to be getting back into something consistent after my enforced layoff. Wednesday next week I've got my next cardiologist appointment, and am hoping that I will be cleared to resume normal exercise again. Although it is nice to be doing something, low heart rate stuff is a bit frustrating. Also of course hoping for some sort of answer as to what is causing the tight chest symptoms... but think a referral to a different specialist is more likely than an answer... Have a good week everyone |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open I have been off the grid, but looks like activity has been low the last week, so glad it wasn't just me. Had a race on Sunday, the Seneca 7. It's like a ragnar. 77.7 miles around Seneca Lake in NY (one of the finger lakes, sooooo beautiful). 7 people on a team, running legs between 2.5 and 6.1 miles. I'd never done anything like this. It was HARD, but really fun (I can say that now that it is over). My legs were 4.8 miles, 6.1 miles, and 2.6 miles (13.5 total). They were all uphill, so that was rough. The first one I felt great. Second leg was just long and my legs were really tight from sitting in a car after my first run. The first 3 miles were uphill so I couldn't open up my legs to stretch out. The muscle that connects my hamstring and glute was angry, which made my whole hip hurt. The final leg felt like it was 5 miles long. So painful, but I was so happy when it was over. And I somehow averaged 8:40 pace overall! Celebrated with a Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewery and a Guinness. I would do this again, but definitely need to train for it. Edited by nicole14e 2019-04-30 10:35 AM |

Got in a couple of workouts plus walking like 100 miles LOL. A couple of days off and now I'm back at it. Hope everyone is doing well! |

Maybe copy the rugby players and take your bike and trainer with you to stay warm on/warm up on each time? My BOW have been:
This is our brewery’s Heart & Soul. Created to have all the hoppy goodness of an IPA, but brewed to a sessionable strength. Its intense fruit-salad character comes from generous additions of US West Coast hops. A full bodied and fruity beer, with notes of passion fruit, grapefruit, gooseberry, pineapple & mango. 4.4% abv. 330ml cans
AND: A classic, American style pale ale. Our Pride & Joy is pale, crisp, very hoppy and aromatic. Robust hop flavours are layered over a balanced malty backbone. Initially soft to the palate, Pride & Joy builds to a generous, but clean bitterness. Flavours and aromas of mango, citrus, earthy pine, tropical fruit & blueberry. 5.3% abv 330ml cans AND: FULL AMBER. Brewed from an assortment of American Cascade, Citra and Centennial hops, the distinctive, fruity aroma of Full Amber is highlighted by a hint of grapefruit. This is balanced by Magnum and Perle German hops that produce a marked bitterness and contribute to a graceful, white solid foam head that puts the crowning touch on every glass that’s poured. Color: Dark gold Aroma: A healthy, strong floral hops aroma with clear hints of grapefruit and citrus Taste: The fresh hop taste is well balanced by a full malt flavor and marked bitterness Hops: Magnum, Perle, Cascade, Citra and Centennial Malts: Pilsner, Dark Caramel, Crystal and Melanoidin £5 for all 3 Exercise wise - couple of commutes, a downpour and lots of extra working from home. back int he office tomorrow but my bike has no chain on it!

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Hi all!! Sunday race went well. I will post a full report when I get around to writing it. Yesterday was rest day. Today, 1850yds in the pool and an hour run. It took a little bit to get me moving this morning, so didn’t quite finish the run until just now...late for me. |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Hi All! I finally took the time to write up my race report. https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid... tl:dr version, it was COLD (39F at start), parts of me froze on the bike, which was hilly and then I had numb feet on the run, which was mostly flat. Giant finisher's medal (4" square!) |

Unfortunately we are all crammed in a car, so there wasn't much room. We might get a bigger car next year, and pack less more likely. You can only have one official vehicle though, and we liked being all together, so that makes it a little tough to bring anything extra. Great idea though. |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open I am virtually certain my coach is trying to kill me. I set a new FTP at my race on Sunday (what are long races good for if not threshold testing?!?). He jumped right in today with V02 max training at new (30w higher) threshold. Maybe he’s just trying to make my legs fall off. Good news is that swimming is starting to click. Today’s 100 repeats were pulled off 10” faster than coach prescribed without that type of extra effort. |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Gretchen, well done in your race, nice report! And you didn’t pet the dog! Nicole, those are some lengthy legs for relay. Ouch. Sounds like you guys need a van to stretch out in. Haha Spin class Tuesday and finally got back in the pool yesterday for the first time in a looong time. Eeeked our 1200 yds. I wanted to do more but also know I need to ease back into it. |

228 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Great job Gretchen! Did you get to pet the dog After the race? Looks like the inter-tubes ate another post of mine. This time I'm certain I hit submit. The show was good. Lakeland, FL was better than I expected. And getting to spend time with Mrs Riles without the kids was great. I picked up a 6 pack of Diver Down - Imperial Red from the local supermarket, I'll give it a solid meh, nothing exciting, but better than most supermarket beer. (Yes, I committed the beer sin of putting ice in my glass, it had been sitting in the trunk of my car.) |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Swim and run today. I’m so tired today. We had date night last night and saw End Game (Avengers). I didn’t know the movie was three hours long, so I agreed to a 7pm showing. It has been a long time since I was out until 11 on a weeknight (man, that sounds sad). Tomorrow I’m going to the Carbondale Brewfest. I’m hoping it won’t be as lame as many of the other activities I’ve been to here in town before. Supposedly over 40 breweries coming to show off products—tastings available. I’ll try to keep track of what I tasted and what I actually liked. I went to lunch the other day with one of the brewers from the university and she is making (or, made) a fruity, pink, glitter beer. I’m gonna have to try it because she made it, but man do I not want to drink that!! |

Member 3147 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open I’m sad to report there was no dog petting at all on Sunday. By the time I’d finished the race, I’d kinda forgotten about the dog (oxygen deprivation!). I will be hosting a cadaver dog training session in a few weeks and my grad assistant is handling all the registration stuff...except, she sends me the pictures of the dogs. It is working out swimmingly! |

1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society--Always Open Sore throat and head cold here but managed a 3 mile run this afternoon and felt pretty good. Took it easy, didn’t want to aggravate the sore throat too much with sucking a lot of wind. Hahahaa Less than a week ago I was sitting on a beach and it was 86 degrees... yesterday it didn’t get out of the 30’s with rain, sleet, and snow. Tell spring is coming someday! I brought my bike helmet to KY so I don’t even have one here at this point and am in the market for a new hybrid aero helmet. I just got interested in the Bontrager XXX they just released but can’t justify the cost (I’m just not that smart to invest that much into my brain). |

Today was a crit with some rollers built in and I’m feeling it.. in a good way. Still sick but it’s above the neck, so sucking it up and pressing on. Had to hustle home as husband is waiting for a delivery from work that has to be signed for so I couldn’t run or swim after but here’s to hoping the truck gets here in a reasonable time and I can get out for a second workout today. Coffee time! |
