Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Have my first bike race this weekend. 2.1 mile circuit with one small hill, all round turns. Ride for 30 minutes. Dawg Days of Summer Crit in Bowie, MD. Also our son has his first tri this weekend, 25M swim .4 bike and .2 run. He's done duathalons before but this will be his first swim. If it's possible to have an "Epic" swim, I had one this morning. We are getting dumped on here in DC, flooding here and there, but no thunder/lightning. I think they were reporting about 2.5 inches of rain. And we were out doing masters in an outdoor 50m pool. Had to put my goggles on to walk around the deck so I could see. Even the pool deck was flooding. Was pretty cool looking up at the rain hitting the pool from under the water. Edited by dalessit 2010-08-18 7:32 AM |

That is my kind of vacation! Ever dive any of the Cayman's? (One of my favorites!) Have not!! Our favorite spot thus far has been Bonaire. We did Cozumel several years back, but it was within a year or two of the hurricane and much of the coral still hadn't recovered. ![]() Funny how different coasts create different "convenience" factors. We can be in Grand Cayman in about 6 hours and its only one time zone away. So very convenient for us. As you know with diving, the less time in the air means more time sucking O's. For us, getting to HI is a pain in the A$$ and I have only have dove Maui because of that fact. I always had dreams of diving with my girls, but neither have shown any interest to date. Maybe when they get a little older and "Friends" aren't thier only world. ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kyla, I've been on a snorkeling trip to Bonaire and would love to go diving there. Getting dive certified and going on a dive vacation is on my "must do in 5 years" list. I love the water. Going through college I planned on being a marine biologist to study sharks. I even have a shark tattoo! Apparently no one told me it is REALLY HARD to major in Marine Biology at the University of Kansas so I had to slightly modify my plans. However that hasn't taken away my passion for the ocean. I would love to get my girls on a snorkeling trip. I think once they got over the weirdness of having fish swim up to you on occasion they would love it! |

Jump up and down people and give us your story! For us non racers, when does your season officially end? do you plan to take time off? ramp right back up for Fall running season? or sit on a couch and watch Football? Once again no racing, just lots of training. My family is participating in a Canoe-a-thon fund raiser for our local Wildlife Federation chapter so that should be lots of fun. I think I'll take a little time off after Augusta but not quite sure how to handle it. I don't want to loose too much fitness but I also don't want to burn out on training before I really start my IM program. I'm thinking about running a half marathon in February just to have a reason to keep the fitness level. Planning on trying some Yoga and some more fitness classes at my gym to vary the program and keep my interest level up. |

I'm done tris for the year, and I can tell. It's hard to take time off though I am discovering. Feel very unmotivated. Feeling very lethargic and depressed a bit.Eating like a pig. My plan was to take August essentially 'off'. No formal training per say. But it hards to stay/get motivated right now. Waiting for September to start the running plan for Vegas. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No race this weekend. My next/final tri is Houston Tri last Sunday in Sept and that will end the season. But, I will be transitioning to half-marathon training with my first one scheduled for 1/16/2011. So no real off season for me as I suspect I will be getting ready for the Gateway to the Bay Tri right after that which will be in April I think. |

Jump up and down people and give us your story! For us non racers, when does your season officially end? do you plan to take time off? ramp right back up for Fall running season? or sit on a couch and watch Football? I am racing this weekend. I am runner #2 in the Ragnar Great River Relay, which is a 195 mile running relay (with 11 other team members) that starts on Friday morning in Winona, MN and ends on Saturday night in Minneapolis, MN. The total of my three legs of the race is a little over 20 miles and I think mostly uphill (over 1000' of climbing per segment). I have never done a race like this before, basically living in a van between run segments, so it ought to be interesting and fun. I am with a good group of people, we are running for my Sister-in-law's Mom who has Alzheimer's so it is a lot of her family. The end of my season is still "officially" up in the air. Right now I am planning on doing another Oly the day before I volunteer for IM Moo and play Suzy's lead cheerleader, and probably a pool swim sprint in late September just to compare times with the same race course from earlier in the year. Couple of fundraiser runs this fall and considering a 1/2 mary in Jan. But, I have not "registered" for anything yet. My family, my job, and my apartments have really been requiring a lot of time in the last couple of months so I am trying to stay as fluid as possible with plans. However, I have already started playing with my options for my off-season maintenance plan for winter with BT's new build your training plan option, so no time off. I find I get very cranky without my daily dose of endorphins. I am just planning on lower training volumes across the board. However, this off-season is going to be all about the "Run"! Already have Ironman 70.3 in Racine penciled in as my "A" race for 2011. Good luck to all the Racers this weekend.....and as tradition requires: Represent! Dino |

Disney's Goofy Challenge will be a fun training weekend. And yes I plan on vegging some on the couch and watching football. I need to get some FF research done in the meantime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It does seem extremely unfair that they are speed gunning cyclist when they are riding OFF THE ROAD, yet cyclist receive so little support when riding on the road. I'm sure we've all been screamed at countless times by angry drivers to get off the road. Guess we should all stay inside on our trainers and at spin class. Yes, $120 later, and a mark on my MVR---- SO ANGRY!!! I have non yet, I am waiting until Avery will fit in to clothes from REI!!! She can't grow fast enough. |

For us non racers, when does your season officially end? do you plan to take time off? ramp right back up for Fall running season? or sit on a couch and watch Football? My tri season finishes in October, then I'm cutting back my swim (and hopefully to 0 - I don't like the swim that much) to focus on the run for half-mary. My season officially end when I cross the finish line of Las Vegas Half Marathon! :-) Time off - probably and more likely will just cut the swim out, and still run/ride when I can...no set schedule. I would like to get 2 bike/run a week, so that's 4 days out of 7. It won't be any scheduled or specific drills that will be done. However, it will be short lived as I would like to do one of the triathlons that's in March, :-) More likely will not have a coach for January as I just want to stay on my own pace and do what I want to do until February where my Tri season starts. :-) Then I'll really take time off after May until end of June or July, and start again. I'm graduating at the same time, so it will make sense to have "off season" during that time. I'm excited about this weekend because I'm doing a long ride after a week off from my damn cold. Jump up and down people and give us your story! For us non racers, when does your season officially end? do you plan to take time off? ramp right back up for Fall running season? or sit on a couch and watch Football? Not racing. I think my season already officially ended after I crossed the finish line at Vineman on July 18th. ![]() I did a few workouts that week and then did 3 weeks of non structured rest and recovery, and it really did my body good. This week we started structured workouts again and so far it has been terrific. Nothing hurts and my fitness does not seem to be the worse for wear at all! I did run 2-3x/wk during those three weeks but just super easy 5 mile runs, so the past few runs have felt easy. This fall will be all about building up run durability so I start my Boston marathon training with a super strong base and keep up the trigger point and stretching and reduce any chance of pf or other crazy running injuries. Also I am doing P90X and so far loving it! Oh, and there is that Master's swimming thing which I'm actually looking forward to! OMG, and then there is the Vegas half marathon! Not sure if I can pr that, since I "think" I overachieved on my last one ![]() And definitely plan to do some football watching but if things go well, we will have baseball in October here first!!! Good luck to all of the racers! like Dino says "Represent!!!" |

Youngest started his freshman year of high school Monday. middle kid is sweating through hell week - 3 a days for water polo. I NAILED my ride this morning.....32 miles with about 1500 feet of climbing, wind picked up in time for a nasty headwind home. Best time ever without a group to pull me. Felt strong! I've got a 10k run on 9/11 and an Oly tri -club championship, no pressure! - on 9/26. Gonna make a final try at a BQ on October 31. |

Short and sweet, St Paul Sprint sunday, after the Miracle Kids tri on Saturday and setup from friday night. Chicago the following weekend, and I may try to get 1 final race in September before calling it the off season... scary it feels like we just started racing. My break will come in November when I take our trip, 2+ weeks of no bike or swim, may take some running stuff if I can squeeze it in, we will see, but much lower volume, then time to hit the trainer hard and raise the FTP. |

I firmly believe running on hills has made me into a much better runner especially on flats, suprisingly! Adjusting nutrition...maybe a little bit more, but I have nothing to compare it to. I am learning so much about nutrition for harder efforts, particularly before and after. During, maybe just bring a little extra of whatever you normally take and see how you feel? But definitely, good breakfast before long run or bike...recovery drink with protein. Yay for hills! How is the Augusta run course? Have a great weekend. |
