New user 101 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Havin'Fun- Good luck with Duke. I am very familiar with that one. I lived in the Raleigh/Cary area for 9 years. That's a pretty tough HIM...race well! Glad to hear everyone is safe after a weekend of training. Seems like it was "bad luck" or "close call" weekend. I had more close calls in one ride Saturday than I think I've had all year. It was almost enough to make me count my blessings for the day and go home! Anyway, train and race well everyone. Another good weekend in the books and one more closer to IMFL!!!! |

Extreme Veteran 399 Long Beach, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Catwoman - 2009-09-20 5:17 PM Not cold sick just recovering from a minor bike crash at my HIM last week (shoulder issues) but after a 53 mile bike/6 mile brick yesterday I laid down to take a 1 hour nap and woke up 4 hours later - I never even take naps! Clearly the training is taking it's toll on the body. Hope everyone has a good (and safe) week! Glad to hear that you are okay! What a day. I'm still trying to get rid of the crud. I've had it for over a week now. Just started back running today. It was very slow. I took a 2.5 hour nap afterwards. Which isn't a great sign after only running/walking 6.5 miles. During my run/walk, I tried to tell myself it could be worse. I could have a stress fracture or an injury that would keep me from going to IMFL. Edited by mburkhart 2009-09-20 6:08 PM |

Master 1655 NJ | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread SOunds like a bunch of us are getting out bad race vibes before the big day - I guess that's good, right?? Im hoping my crappy race was back in July and nothing to worry about in Florida except crossing that line before midnight. Had a great ride from home to the beach yesterday - about 80 miles then did another 12 to get my 5 hrs in. Felt great and the nutrition was pretty much dead on. A banana and uncrustable after about 2 - 2.5 hrs. is heaven. |

Veteran 107 Virginia | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Bad news... Last week when I took my tri bike in for a pre race tune up for The Nation's Tri, it was diagnosed with a cracked frame and deemed unrideable. Good news... My better half gave me the go ahead for a new bike which I picked up from my LBS yesterday: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=661394&l=f00161e09a&id=1347704960 I rode it for a 'shakeout' ride today for 80 miles and it was like butta.... Will get to really test it out next weekend at ChesapeakeMan Aqua Velo. But I think I am going to like it. |

Member 13 | Subject: RE: Speedsuit or Westsuit for IM Florida? Steve, Thanks for the insight. I actually changed my order to the velocity++. It's still a speedsuit vs wetsuit, but the full length gives a little more buoyancy. I'm not sure I'll get that much more of an advantage with a full wetsuit. In fact, if your report holds true for this year, I think I'd overheat! Mahalo! Edited by U2AV8R 2009-09-21 1:42 AM |

Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread 47 days 1 hour and 26 minutes.........Do you know where your fitness is? Definitely having some self doubts today. I believe that I have achieved the fitness level to finish the race but I just pictured things differently when I began the process. It is amazing how much life can get in the way of training. I never had this trouble with marathon training. The coordination of trying to squeeze in all three sports is more difficult then I expected. I am very happy with all the gains I have made this year but sometimes after I have an off week I feel like I have gained ten pounds and am starting all over again. I think I am just starting to get a real bad case of RACE FEVER!!! It has been a long year and with this being my first Ironman I just want to get out there and do it. Next year I will schedule some more races during the year to keep me from going stir crazy. Anyways, I figured if I was going to have a race induced mental breakdown this was the place to do it. I hope everyone is doing great. Happy Monday and good training to all. |

I'm ready also I wish it was here sooner I'm just about ready to go. |

Veteran 258 Long Island | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread JJ – Total understand about “life” getting in the way as my 90 mile ride became a 82 mile ride on Sunday as I received a mayday page to get home and missed my Saturday run due to Family obligations. However, this means I will be running tonight after the little guy goes down…..going to be a long day. We are all in the same boat buddy……. PS - I did my 1st early morning ride (5AM) and it was a bit scary, but fun out there with just your light showing you the way..... |

Regular 70 in a pool, on a bike, or up the trail | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread trihardathena - 2009-09-21 9:23 AM OOOOoooo I soooo agree jjcnbg!! I am so ready for training to be over and some racing to start!! I have only done 3 races this year and I have one more before Ironman...just wasn't enough!!! yep.. me too. Last week I went from fearing that there wasn't enough time to wishing it would just be November already. I've still got a LOT of progress to make on the run with a final build period, but I am finally confident that I can at least cross the finish line (er... no matter how long it takes). Time is still moving pretty fast though! The trick now, even more than before, is to stay healthy and uninjured. Happy training! |

Last week when I took my tri bike in for a pre race tune up for The Nation's Tri, it was diagnosed with a cracked frame and deemed unrideable. Same thing happened to me. I didn't know it, but the frame had had a hairline crack for quite a while and it finally went. I don't have a spousal unit to get approval from, so I went with a Specialized Roubaix Pro with SRAM Red: My credit card company loves me now. BTW... I'm primarily a roadie, not a triathlete, so I'll be riding a standard road bike for IMFL. I've only ridden this bike twice. But both were centuries. The first was Hancock Horizontal Hundred in NW Ohio: pancake flat, like FL. The second one was Tour de Tuck, here at home in WNC. Mostly Blue Ridge Parkway: 11,000+ feet of climbing, the opposite of FL! I thought Ti was like butta... but holy schmoly this thing rides like a dream! All I gotta do now is get my rear Campy Zonda wheel switched over to SRAM/Shimano hub body (hence the mismatch in the photo). |

Good thing now is I only have 3 more long bikes and 3 more long runs left, then tapering that tells me we are getting close. Keep up the hard work everyone. Ron |

I was planning on upgrading the road bike for next season, but I race more tris than road, so I had to go for the tri bike when I found out about the cracked frame. The roadies hate it when I show up for a century with the aero bars, but I am considerate and dont get aero unless I am pulling. I was afraid that my small crack might decide to go on a downhill at 30 or 40 mph, so I considered the investment a form of life insurance!! Enjoy your new ride! |

Calfee did an outstanding job repairing the cracked carbon b-stays on my first love the Colnago. The b-stays were cracked after a cycling accident last year. Calfee is very professional and easy to work with. I can't say enough about their customer service. You know people love bikes when they call to let you know every stage of the repair service. I would send any of my babies off to them again in a heartbeat. If you're interested in repairing your bike send them a pic and description and they will send you an estimate back. My LBS sent off the info to Calfee and got an estimate for me. I also found Argus, who apparently hired all of the people from Aegis my originial frame mfg, and got a quote. Aegis ceased operations this year. Anyway after the holidays, I might send it off to be repaired and refurbished and then I will always have a backup! |
