Veteran 740 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread This morning had to be one of the most miserable rides I've done on the IM Texas course. I was cold and wet the whole time, with temps in the upper 40's & low 50's and drizzle for the first three hours. In five hours, I think I only saw one other bike. I did see a couple SAG vehicles for some group ride....but no riders. The lady working the counter in the store at Richards said a group came through yesterday and decided they were too cold. They called for a ride home and hung out in the store for a while waiting. Based on the extended forecast, this could have been the last day for a cold ride in this area until next winter. In another few weeks I'll be whining about the heat instead! |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread I'm so ridiculously undertrained its pathetic. I don't really have a safe pool to swim in right now and have been sorting thru some life stuff and dealing with an injury. I'm a mess. I can probably make it thru the swim and bike without difficulty. Might be a catered aquabike for me |

Member 48 | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread I bought a brand new kestrel talon at the end of last year. I have yet to ride it outside. My entire training has been indoors. If it ever stops raining and stays about 40 to 45 I will venture in the the great outdoors for my maiden voyage. I am so glad I bought a wheel just for the trainer. At this rate my first time on the road will be the race. |

The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread For those interested in doing the full route, here is a great opportunity from my training group and it is open to everyone!
Just FB friend "Outrival Racing" and RSVP so there will be enough support for everyone who shows up. Want to ride the Full 112 miles of the Ironman Texas Bike Course? OutRival Racing is facilitating the second Annual "got 112?" event: an "open community cycling event" for anyone to ride on the Ironman Texas bike course. The IMTX course will be fully marked with turn signs plus mile markers every 10 miles. This is a big "social ride," so there are no road closures. RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND BE PREPARED TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT. Date: April 14th, wheels roll at 7am (will not be a mass start) Where: Town Green Park (IMTX Transition location). Parking venue announced asap. Who: Anyone capable of riding all (or portions) of the 112 mile IMTX bike course. All athletes are invited to join us, including those from other clubs, teams, shops, or even out-of-towners! Two Water Aid Stations will be provided where you can fill up your own bottles (so no bottle handups). Bikelane in the Woodlands is providing nutritional products at these two stops. (Please bring your own products just in case!) One station will be at approximately mile 45 and another at mile 90. You can also stop in Richards for fueling. Special Needs Practice: You can drop off a "Special Needs" bag in a large bin at the start of the ride. Those bags will be transported out to where Special Needs is located in IMTX. The bags will be laid out for you to access. All bags will then be transported back to the start by 1pm. Please do not put valuables in your bag! Brick Run: There will be a 2 mile out-and-back marked run course for those of you wishing to do a "brick" run after your ride. Look for the cones after your ride. Bikelane is providing nutritional support!! Bicycle World is providing sag and support vehicles for the ride. Should you need assistance, look for one of the three Bicycle World vans that are out on the route. They are there to help you! PLEASE RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Please be prepared to be self-sufficient. Bring a course map, tire-changing equipment, nutritional and hydration products, cell phone, etc. Please obey ALL traffic laws and ride safely. Email [email protected] if you have any questions. If you would like to VOLUNTEER (and we would love individuals or even groups to help out!), please let us know. Thanks!! ******Please "confirm" if you are attending so that we have an estimate on water and nutritional supplies. |

They say it should be around for the weekend, here is to hoping. Would love to get in at least one long "warm" ride outside pre IMTX. Only problem is the severe weather that comes with it. |

Master 1468 Montgomery, Tx | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread wow. I have only ran 17 miles since friday. no swim, no bike! Family had a great vacation, but I did miss me some training! I plan on doing 4k in th epookl tomorrow and a 3hr ride. I also plan on 4-5hr ride saturday to make up for lost time. Biggest key now is not to overdue it by trying to make up time. I may try to meet up with the folks riding Saturday if it falls into place. Time to get it going and get my peak weeks on |

Champion 10471 Dallas, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Well I had my first freak out - two of them - this past week. One on Tuesday. One today. So I finally LOOKED at my run and bike volume. WOW. Not where it should be. (Feel free to look at shake your head at how low all my volume is!) I rode 77 miles yesterday. Really wiped me out. Six weeks of real training left... 3 weeks of taper. 77 mile ride should NOT wipe me out as bad as it did at this point. Pathetic. Freaked out. Decided, I'm not going down without a fight. My coach is giving me a plan, and I'm adding to it. I will be doing 2-3, 100+ mile rides. I put them on my training calendar. He can take 'em of leave 'em. But I AM doing them. This is MY race. Run volume is pathetic at best. The 2 "injury" issues I have had haven't helped that situation. I'm adding to what he is giving me. Six weeks. I WILL MAKE THIS HAPPEN. Good luck to everyone else! I'm sure YOUR training volume is much better than mine! Ha! |

He keeps telling me it is fine... that consistency is more important. I just know I'm an athlete who needs to ride 100 miles in training to do a 112 mile ride. Even then I'll be hurting on race day. There are some athletes who can do a bunch of 80 mile rides and bust out 112 miles on race day and be fine. That's not me. Even with the consistency argument, my volume overall has been low... with my weeks averaging 10-13 hours. I don't even feel like I am in Half Ironman shape at this point. You are all more than welcome to look at my training logs and to tell me what you think. Now, I all fairness I have had some injury issues with both my feet, thus the running hasn't been where it should be. But if I couldn't run that much... wouldn't I bike more? It's all about the bike at the IM distance. Especially if I can't run. |

51 | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Honestly, I'm not the best one to evaluate your training logs as this is my first Ironman as well. However, I did race bikes as a kid and have done many full and half marathons over the last 6 years. I have used several coaches but have only found one that I consider to be any good. This guy is a former elite runner (olympic marathon level) who is a master at helping you build volume without getting injured. I never realized what a good coach was until I started with this guy. He's all about not getting injured but building your volume in a way that the race day is a cakewalk. Now for this race, I didn't hire a coach (which may be a dumb mistake), but I was pretty successful in my first 70.3 last year using the free program from BT. Since my only goal for IMTX is to finish and not die, I decided to use the free BT program as well. The only thing I do different is that I ran 3 marathons in the off-season (under my running coach's supervision) and have maintained pretty good run volume and I am doing more cycling than BT asks for because I have fun with it and don't get injured. My overall point is that if you hired a coach to get you in shape for the race but you're sitting here 8 weeks out, injured and not ready, then that might not be the best coach in the world. I'm not a great expert or anything like that though, so take it for what it's worth. That being said, if I were in your shoes, I would definitely add more cycle volume and get up to 2-3 100+ milers ahead of the race! I've seen your other posts and with your good attitude I have no doubt we will see you on the finish line with a medal and a big smile on your face....I just hope I'm there to join you!

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread My volume is pathetic and yet I find myself strangely not freaked out by any of it. My running has been in the toilet (like it always is) due to a hip injury (like when am I NOT injured) and due to some major life stresses have been compeltely unmotivated. I have had some serious swim issues do to things beyond my control. (No safe pool to swim in) and biking...meh. I am a huge baby about riding alone outside. There are no trails here and I am a big fat chicken. IMTX may end up being a catered aquabike for me. I can probably pull the swim and the bike out without too much difficulty. Guess I can always walk the run. Good thing I wasn't planning on a big PR |

Extreme Veteran 930 Fort Worth, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread So, who all is doing Lonestar 70.3 in Galveston as a prep/training run? I've been so tempted to sign up - about 40 people from my training group are doing it. It would be fun to do something with all of them, but I am the only one doing IM Texas. They are all doing a Fall IM, or 2013. If I don't sign up at the last minute, I might still go down to watch Lance Armstrong. |
