Subject: RE: IMCDA Are you ready?

Reading through the athlete information guide and I have two questions for anyone who might have done this race before...

1 - I see nothing about special needs bags and how they work.  I am assuming we get 5 bags.  1 for swim to bike transition, 1 for bike special needs, 1 for bike to run transition, 1 for run special needs, 1 for post race clothes.  Is this right?  Why do they not mention it in the athlete's guide?  If it's right, then do we drop off all 5 bags on Saturday when we drop off our bikes or on Sunday before the race?

2 - I didn't see anything about chicken broth being provided on the run.  Will they still be doing that?

Just trying to decide what goes in my bags...Is it too early to be thinking about this??? Thanks.

In the past:

1 - 5 bags is correct.  T1 and T2 bags can be dropped off on Saturday.  The 2 SN bags and post race bag are dropped off on Sunday before the race.

2 - In the past they have had chicken broth on the run course.  It is still listed as being provided on the FAQ link.

I posted my bag checklist in my log on 6/7 if that helps.  Do not plan on getting your bike SN bag back after the race.

Special Needs bags and Transition bags.  I'll probably think about them on Friday night.  (good grief my head is starting to spin).   Are the Bike SN bags given to you on the fly or do you stop and root around in it taking what you want.

I'm still trying to decide if I wear Tri Shorts or the Bike shorts (extra padding-both are De Soto).

Swimming plans if anyone wants to meet up:

Thur:  I'm planning on swimming for about 30 min at 7:15am before I head to work.  (I may be a no-show if I have to go to work earlier).

Friday:  Sounds like the general plan is to meet around 8:00 and swim at 8:30.  Not sure if there is a spot set up to meet yet or not.  I'll be hanging around the water fountain near the swim start and Gatorade tent.  Fountain is located between the parking lot and grassy noll overlooking the swim start.  (pictures below).  After the swim I plan to hang out until the registration tent opens.

Man...I hope I look as good/happy as you do when I finish!!

Will be there around 8 a.m. Friday for my little OWS.  I will also plan on hanging around until registration.  Plan on doing registration/expo Friday morning, then pick up the bike from Tri Bike Transport, and check in with Janus to finalize my donations.

I'm trying to figure how I can get  a finisher picture without them showing the two medics holding me up.

Also trying to decide to wear a Tri Jersey or a regular Bike Jersey.

Hey Spence.  I've been going through the same decision-making process.  I have decided on bike shorts (extra padding) and my regular short-sleeve cycling jersey (extra sun protection).  I will then change into running shorts and a short sleeve running shirt for the run/walk/crawl portion of the race.

I'll try to get to the fountain on Friday at 8 am and hang out there after until registration.

Wear your 2004 bib (409) so we can spot you

Time to start pinging off the walls.   Cleaneup the bike chain and was nipping off all the little rubber thingys on the tires.    Notice a gouge on my back tire where the tube is showing through.

Go to LBS and they don't have any Michellin like that, so I got a Bontrager Race Lite.  Now I'll be rideing with mismatch tires.   Should I go back an buy a new tire for the front rim?

I feel so out of balance now.

Not that it matters much at this point, but do any of you know what grade the bigger climbs are, and for how long (distance)?  I am visiting with my coach about gearing and HR strategies and was curious as to these things.

Newest weather update says near 90 degrees Sunday...ugh.  Would like about 10 degrees cooler, but oh well.  At least I'm used to it.  For those who live up there, what time of day does it start to cool off?

Just wanted to jump in here and wish you all the very best on Sunday!

The last race I did was an OW swim the same day as IM Brasil. While swimming I felt a huge connection to those really racing that day. I have an Oly Sunday and I just want to let you all know that I'll be thinking and praying for you and sincerely hoping that your race day unfolds as planned. Gosh, you'll be Ironmen! Awesome!

I'm so proud of all of you. Good luck, enjoy the day, and know that you're inspiring us attempting much more modest distances on the same day. Can't wait to read your RRs. You'll do great!

The hottest part of the day up here is usually around 4-5pm.  Believe it or not!  Starts to cool off about 6pm then cools down rapidly.  Hopefully we won't be having the strong "breeze" we have been having every day!

I will see you all at 8am on Friday morning.  The fountain is a good place to meet.  Do not forget bike course tour at 2pm.

Just wanted to say Good luck and great race to all.  I'm planning on being there to volunteer in the a.m./early afternoon with a local 4-H group, but I'm officiating a wedding so I have to skip out on the rest.  I'll be thinking of all of you!

Does anyone know if they are having a 5K with the Ironkids race.  They had a 5K in 2003 but I'm not sure if they have had it since.
