tri808 - 2012-10-11 2:19 PM Looking out my office window, it's nice to see the wind blowing the palm trees again.  I was getting worried for a while that it would be an extremely humid race in Kona.  The carnage would have been epic.  That said, the trade winds are supposed to die down again next week, so it looks like they're going to catch a break this weekend.

Yeah, a friend got there yesterday and said the air quality is the worst he's seen it.  We were there in August when it wasn't blowing much and the VOG gets pretty oppressive

Hmm, this time I took the wheel completely off and looked inside the cutout of the frame.  The attached picture shows what I found.  It looks like a spot where the paint has been worn off, I assume the squeak culprit.  I backed off the screws in the dropouts a bit, hopefully that helps, thanks!

And yes, my bike is disgustingly dirty.  Are those bike maintenance tips going to cover how to clean it???

Wow!  Kind of looks like a hole.....

Try remounting the tire and check the rim for out of round with a square.

You could have a high spot on the tire.

Checking the rim for out of round (egg shaped).  Tire off, remount rim on bike, bike in maintenance stand, carpenters square held with the 90° over the open rim (where the tire beads grab the rim) the other end of the carpenters square held on a flat surface.  If the rim hits your out of round.  Or if you have a wheel truing stand that will work for checking.

I scrapped my swim this afternoon, I had some gi issues but I feel a little better tonight.

Actually I am not as sulky as the rest of the week.  I was not happy that I did not register for a sprint tri this coming Saturday am.  I just found out that the tri was changed to a duathlon due to freezing weather.  So now I am not so upset about not registering.  Actually I am quite happy, because I would have been more upset about doing a duathlon.

Check to see if it's smoothie.    In all seriousness, I can visualize what James is saying, but can't quite figure out how to go about it.  Level the square on the floor and up against the tire?

In my mind.......I am still an effective communicator.  Wink

btw that was funny............

Why the hate for Du's?  It's a common hate but why?  I love them.  I started with them, and I wish there were more.  I don't understand why they are not all winter long here

I like the swim.  I am good at the swim.  I have never done a duathlon.  I have doen lots of biathlons back in the 80's.

That's probably the difference.  I'm not good at any of the sports.  I am all around average.  I like both events so if a tri was knocked down to a DU I'd be ok with it.

For those of you with the 910xt, how do you like your it as far as run pace accuracy?  I keep reading about all the bugs and how they may/may not have been fixed.  I would primarily use it for run training and so I could use one watch throughout the entire race.  I had issues last year using both a sport watch and putting on a 410 in T2 for the run.  Edge 500 would still be my cycling computer, and I don't really care about the swim features of the 910...just a nice to have IMO.

I don't mind the odd duathlon but would prefer a tri any day and if a tri turns du, I get cranky.  The one nice thing about a Du for me is that I get to pass people on the bike.  In a tri, I tend to only get passed...

I did a run biathlon once a couple of years ago, first time I ever held a gun of any sort and I actually managed to hit a couple of targets in between gasps...

Fred D - 2012-10-12 2:39 PM Favor. If you could be kind enough to give my good buddy BryanCD an inspire before his Kona race tomorrow I would appreciate it. Great guy, expecting his first child and doing his 3rd Kona race. Inspires help before races, so do me a favor and stop by his blog!

We actually don't have any duathlons here on Oahu if you believe that.  We had a couple in the past that were tied in with other tris, but they didn't get enough interest.

Done the other day - hope he has a great race.  Also would be cool if he makes it past the cutting room floor onto the NBC show at the end of the month.  Something tells me if he can get on the podium we'll see him on TV.

I have heard they fixed it, or improved it, but I never really used it either on the 305 or now the 910.   I do use lap pace on occasion, which is fairly accurate but I guess not indicative of current speed necessarily.   However, doing BarryP's thing I am trying to divorce myself from current pace as I am not doing interval type workouts.  A way of saying I don't want to know that info

I was running 2.4 on my unit, never upgraded to 2.5, now they are on 2.6 and am considering it

BTW, it was brilliant for OWS and my 10K swim training last summer.

James, thanks for the video and how to check if the wheel is out of round.  I will check it this weekend!

I finally feel *mostly* better this morning.  At least my ears and sinuses don't feel all plugged up any more.  I'm hoping to get in a short run today - I am expecting that to suck.

On a depressing note, there is frost on my back deck this morning.  Frown

From what I've read, lap pace and overall pace tended to be good, but current pace was a joke - now it seems to be largely resolved.  Although lap pace is what I pay attention to the most.

As for the swim features, I'm really looking forward to those - especially OWS as Chris mentioned.
