Nothing like a spoonful straight outta the jar! LOVE fresh honey. My parents had a honey business at one point, mmm! |

Elite 4435 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED Bizarre happenings at OWS last night. We set off on our little over 1km swim to the next beach....about 100m from the shore where we're all regrouping was a fishing line going pretty deep into the ocean from a fisherman on the beach. It was clear/white - everyone good warning each other as it was head height - decapitation!!! We all tugged on it and one girl managed to get it wrapped around her earring and broke the line. Well the fisherman concerned went off his rocker! Completely nutso - swearing at us all saying us swimmers are a menace and he paid his licence to fish etc (actually think it's illegal where he was fishing but hey). He'd clearly been on the booze and his over weight 50 something wife in her white bikini joined in the fray. I mean seriously this guy wanted to take on 60 swimmers! He said we are a menace like those bloody cyclists - oh dear that resulted in all of us laughing which upset him more - because most of those swimmers are cyclists! Along comes coach Johnny and goes up to the man, very close indeed - now Johnny in his speedos is a sight, huge chest, 6 ft 4 and a heavyweight boxer in his spare time! All was well we left anyway and Sarah collected the fishing line and gave it to the man. It was just surreal had to share. |

However, I have a 5K race on Sunday, so I'm thinking running 5 miles Sat. may not be the best idea, but I don't want to skimp out on my training, either. Thought about not running Sat. and doing the 5K Sunday and then doing the extra 2 miles at some point after the race. Thoughts? Depends on effort. Swapping Sat for Sun shouldn't be a big deal. If you are going full out "Race", then I wouldn't be too concerned about the extra mileage. If the effort is going to be consistent with training pace, then add the extra two after you finish. How long is the training plan? Which plan is it? Higdon has a couple of races (5 & 10K) built into his beginner plan, but they are later in the program. Keep in mind that I just recently started adding volume to my running and I am only so knowledgable I'm gollowing Higdon's Novice 2 plan, which has a 5K race at 6 weeks and a 10K race at 9 weeks. Thanks to everyone's responses, I will weigh each one out and help them bias my decision. Higdon got me through HM #1 I'm currently following the Novice 1 plan for my HM. It mixes and matches good with the rest of my training. |

I have not really worked it into my routine until the past 6 months, and it really stems from some longer bike rides at the end of last season. So, at different times I have tried a few different gel's, some Gatorade/Powerade, Swedish gummy fish, Stinger waffles and Fig Newtons. I like the Fig Newtons and Stinger waffles for the bike, but when running I am starting to get good results from gels. And just this past week I tried Honey. I read some stuff on it and it seems like a viable option. I tried it before a short run this week and it stayed fine in my stomach. I will not be trying it out this weekend (nothing new on race day), but I am interested to hear anything anyone has to say on both nutrition and Honey in particular. Thanks. I do nutrition crocodile style :) It's served me very well in races--I take whatever they've got and I do fine. I've definitely done shots of honey on the bike and I like it as well as anything. Me too! I am blessed with a rock gut. I can eat anything then go run 30-60 mins later. Well except for that super duper giant chicken burrito with extra chicken and a giant serving of chips and queso on the side! That one actually made me cut my run short by 2 miles a couple weeks ago. |

I failed on the run streak this past Saturday. So on Monday I started a new streak of at least 1 workout a day for 30 days. I figure that will make it easier with class and everything. It has been 13 years since I was in college, so a little getting used to it. First class is Business Law, so a decent amount of reading going into the class. Thanks for asking. |
