I hope everyone is doing well.

Hang in there!  Not much longer now!

Question for you pod people - especially the ladies - Does anyone use a NONCUTOUT saddle on their tri bike? I've been through:
5 adamos
2 cobbs
2 Selle SMPs
1 Selle Italia
1 Terry

all cutouts and all have the same issue - actual bone bruising/pain on one side.

So yesterday I threw on my road saddle: an older model of this http://www.bontrager.com/model/08800

and viola. no pain. it wasn't all rosie but so much more tolerable!

Have you tried calling Cobb Cycling to discuss? John wants to make sure everyone is comfortable and they will find the issue. Call and ask for Seth 903-253-8555

I'm debating my morning. Yoga and swim? Nap?

I feel old that I'm "recovering" from a Paul McCartney concert. 72 years old and the guy played/sang for 2.5 hours straight plus two encores after.

Oh  how I wish I could nap! That cycling session wore me out last night! Then I didn't sleep well so my intended morning run didn't happen. Have plans to meet Coach tonight for a run anyway but wanted to get in a cool morning run in case tonights run gets monsooned.

Are you guys getting hit by big storms? It's been horribly humid this week. And Phoenix was flooded last night...cars stalled, people wading to the concert, parking garages turned into waterfalls.

My vote is yoga then nap if you have time for both.  If there isn't time for both, go for the nap.  Just remember that Sir Paul performs a lot so he's used to it.  You don't go to concerts a lot so of course you need to recover but he can keep going.  Maybe you should go to more concerts to increase your endurance?

We've been having a super wet summer here.  Lots of rain and humidity.  At least the temps are generally lower, even if it makes the afternoon workouts a little harder to get in.  I don't think we've had more than 1 day over 100* and only a handful of days over 90*.  That's pretty atypical for around here, but I'll take it!!

My journey has taken a little detour with surgery and everything. Then, I got bit by a bug or something and have had serious wanderlust. I'm not joking. I have this desire to be out in nature that I just cannot ignore. So, I've been doing a lot of hiking and exploring. I still have run every day and my running fitness makes me able to cover a lot of ground but it hasn't been the kind of running (in combination with the surgery) that will product a HM I would love.

So, that being said, I decided to drop the summer HM and just launch right into marathon training then maybe do a HM about 6-8 weeks out from the actual marathon. I think that will be more helpful in terms of giving me feedback on my marathon training.

I am racing in the regional 10K road championship this weekend, which will more or less kick off my marathon training. I'm still not totally where I want to be running fitness-wise, but it will be a good check in.

I'm going to multi-task marathon training and cross country racing. Cross country did some things for my running strength (mental and physical) that nothing else has replicated. So, hopefully I can harness that (and not burn out!) This is partially why I am giving myself a summer pass on my running and caving to my wanderlust. What I see happening is a hard cross country race (or practice) on Saturdays followed by long, marathon specific runs on Sundays.

I'm open to hear any feedback on this, too. But that's kind of where I am at right now.

Excellent plan!  You really seemed to enjoy XC last year and I'm happy to see that you are planning to do it again this year.

This is supposed to be fun, after all :-)

I like the idea too. There needs to be some room in the training schemes. I get that wanderlust too. That's exactly why I made the 8 hr trip last weekend to do some dinky non-standard race that no-one has really heard of before. It was out in the woods and along the shoreline of one of the great lakes I hadn't been to in like forever. Lots of opportunities to see waterfalls up there as well. Shorter midwest ones, but I'll take what I could get. Some of this off the path running may not seem to be *perfect* for building up to a marathon, but I think it still is helpful. It's still running and even more so it's taking care of you mentally. I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to continually just go from one marathon build to the next even if you took an appropriate amount of time to recover. The mental aspect is tremendous. You have to keep things fresh at times and you  have to do some things to make that so. The cross country season should help with that. It may not be quite *perfect*, but I think it brings a lot for you. Having a singular focus can be good for a time, but over a longer haul it can really burn you out.

I appreciate your feedback, Ben. There are so many helpful tidbits in what you said.

I feel comforted in the fact that even YOU get a little wanderlust You should come over to the PNW and I will show you some amazing stuff.

So funny, we have been having a HOT and dry summer here! We are also ill-equipped for the hot weather. Most people don't have residential AC.

The last few days have been a reprieve in ABQ (Santa Fe still getting hit every day) but it's supposed to start up again this afternoon in ABQ.

Wow!!! That is incomprehensible to me! Of course we have a swamp cooler here, our friends in Nebraska don't understand why one would WANT to put humidity in the air!

Haha, yep.  That's how I feel as I accumulate devices and use Garmin Connect as my centralized data storage online.

For me Garmin feeds: Strava, TrainingPeaks, MapMyFitness, BT.  Some automatically, some through tapiirik, and some manually.

Eeks. I haven't done sh*t then!

I've ventured even further away from watches. I have a really good idea how far things are since I run so much so I have begun to track even less (not sure how that is possible.)

I still have the garmin my training partner gave me for specific workouts when no one else has a watch but that's about it.

See now, therein lies the problem. It was a sprint so, in MY head, there is no need to recover. I need to trust him. He knows that RnR is my priority.

Jonathan TX, I have to give you some grief on behalf of Monica and Matt.  What is this, "I may do the 100k instead of the 100 miles at Hotter'n Hell?"

Please explain.

Is it a matter of the planned workouts not fitting your schedule, or you not trusting him?  If it's a scheduling thing, it might be worth a conversation to figure out what would work better for you.  If you don't trust him, why not?  I think I'd answer those questions before making a decision about whether or not to stick with him.

Yup.  It's not a schedule thing. He tells me to re-arrange the sessions as needed to fit. I've been self coached for so long. And I have all the things I've read/heard rattling around in my head i.e. no need to recover from a sprint, train through it if it's not an "A" race...
