Jo--Good luck on that bike ride. (I snorted at the Nantucket comment--always nice when the girl who lives in Australia can make that joke).

Salty--AWESOME news about the job!

Chris--Hilarious limricking.

I'm woefully behind in pods news, but I'm scrambling a bit to get caught up around here.  Gonna be scarce for a bit, but you all are in my thoughts :) Hugs pod.xo.

When in doubt, don't eat a massive Indian buffet before swimming and then running.  Don't do it.  Trust me.

Hmmmm, I seem to remember a recent quote: "Don't do anything we wouldn't do".  Apparently the door IS wide open!

Speaking of which, --a rather unrelated topic, but fits that advice....What do you wear for the swimming event, and how do you change into bike shorts for the transition into the biking event? (can you tell....i'm really, REALLY new, but excited for my first TRI in a month!)

Latest mom update: still unknown whats wrong, but they plan to operate tomorrow--possibly a blockage, or a tumor...its kind of scary.

Doubly so as--full disclosure--I am having issues of my own of late. For the past year, I have been fighting depression more than ever, along with some pretty bad anxiety...to the point that, at times, I can't eat. After really stepping back and looking at how I have been feeling, I did realize that its mainly been anxiety issues. I then noticed some other issues...waking up at night in a puddle of sweat, hot flashes (very occasional, but increasing), and some other changes....Apparently I am hitting what is usually "late middle age" at age 37...after checking with my mom, she confirmed that I am right on time as compared to other women in my family....In any case, I am writing this to ask--of those ladies who are dealing or have dealt with "the change", did you find anything to help mitigate the symptoms? My sister had to go on antidepressants, and I really don't like the idea of being on them or anxiety meds personally.

Sorry to all the manatee men, as I know this is nothing you ever really want to hear about, but I felt this would be a good place to ask. Thanks!

First, Kate, I will keep your mom in my prayers.  It is scary to have someone you love going through a surgery, especially for the unknown.

Second, I have not been through 'the change' but I have suffered from some pretty severe depression in my life.  I too hate meds.  I bought a light therapy unit (this one) and it works!  I was headed into the deep dark hole a couple years ago, losing it at work, swearing at a coworker.  Got one, within 4 days I was climbing my way out.  Even my colleagues noticed what it did for me.  I don't know if it will work in your case, but could be worth a try.

Keeping you in my thoughts!

okay lots of empathy right here.  Remember me last year, tears and anxiety - it was a hormone imbalance and took ages to get right,

Firstly see your doctor for some bloodwork - because you don't want to take antidepressants if it can be fixed easily with some kind of mini pill

Secondly I highly recommend Maca powder - it tastes disgusting but is disguised fairly well in coffee.  I would have been suicidal without it for last year.

I know exactly how you feel, i had the night sweats the anxiety and the depression.  I am actually totally back to normal now.  Turns out I wasn't menopausal not even perimenopausal but had a hormone imbalance that worked itself out.

go easy on yourself, if you are going through the change, read up on it, get all the natural therapy you need and don't be afraid to get the hard drugs!

ride update - I stopped at the LBS to see Piglet Jae and have a coffee - got there as my DH the mailman turns up so we have a coffee together - how unexpected.

I then left to cycle home the final 10km didn't want to push my luck it was so nice I couldve ridden all day.  Anyway 2km from the LBs my chain starts making a strange noise like it's rubbing somewhere, i decide to stop and check it out - flipped the bike upside down played with gears and pedals like a pro - suddenly they won't turn any more - the chain is well and truly jammed.

No perturbed in the slightest i walked the 2km back to Jae.  some debris from the road had bounced up and stuck in the rear derailleur - turns out to be a bike computer magnet not from my bike!  What are the odds.

Jae gets his mechanic to fix up Terenzo (my bike - nearest I'll get to riding him) - they weren't busy so he gave him a full service.  Worryingly he said I was right to be cautious, had I continued riding I would have torn the derailleur off the bike and would definitely have had a nasty crash and maybe written off Terenzo,  so aren't I lucky and aren't I brave!???

Cycled the 10km home and got changed and ran 5km with Scooby.

Feels good to be out there and doing the real graceful stopping - first time ever on the road doing that.  Now I want to ride every day!

Hi Delta05 I'm not sure if somehow your post has ended up in the wrong thread or not, assuming you are a male (as portrayed in your profile pic) I would suggest a pair of tri shorts that are worn for the whole race. These are similar to bike shorts but with a much thiner pad that dries much quicker and are comfortable to wear for your swim, bike and run. Some of the man in this group might be of more help though

It's been a while since I've posted an undie pic of myself ... sports bra, fun undies that I often wear as bikini bottoms anyway. They remind me of Betty Designs! Pink, white, and black with skulls. Made by what I think is a local company, they do all sorts of cool clothes and swimwear too, called 69SLAM. The whole fam be fans.

Hi Delta05, welcome to the forum. Can't believe the female manatees missed your post, they must be getting slack. With me being a noob to this also, take this advice with a pinch of salt, but I believe what you wear depends on distance of the tri because time spent in transition is all relative to the distance. What I mean is, if you're doing a sprint distance race, finishing positions can be determined by seconds. So you really don't want to be wasting time changing into separate outfits. It would be much better to wear a one piece/two piece tri specific suit under your wetsuit (if you are allowed to wear a wetsuit) and to stay in that one outfit for the entire race. If you were doing a longer race, like a half or full ironman, then the length of time spent in transition is not as important. You can afford to take the time to get changed into different clothes for each part of the event with the emphasis on comfort. What race are you doing? Have a look at the very first page of this thread and it asks for you to post an intro of sorts, I'm sure her Yantiness will be along to guide you shortly.
