Stacey - I have this grandiose idea in my head that when we get a dog it's not going to be allowed onto the couch or the bed... somehow I have this feeling that this isn't going to go as planned within about a week or two.

We had a chocolate lab, Hannah, who was a "failed show dog."  We got her just before her first birthday.  Someone she had it in her head that she was not on the furniture as long as two feet were on the ground.  She would crawl her entire body onto the sofa and keep a few toes touching the floor.  When we got Emma (she moved in on Hannah's 7th birthday.  Worst. Gift. Ever. in Hannah's opinion).  Anyway, Emma learned this habit from Hannah so we still have the two foot rule -- dogs in our lap but not on the furniture (except the Big Bed, they are allowed there as long as they get off when Kevin says).

Someday I'll share the Gil song. We do it on occasion when we do acoustic sets. Short story, Gil was a black Lab that failed Guide Dog School. He owned the house, had a truly memorable personality, and thought he was a lap dog.  He slept with us every winter, did a great job of keeping our feet warm. Buster was my daughter's dog, a Blue Tick Beagle. Not as big as Gil, but LOVED sitting on the arm of the sofa. And he enjoyed sleeping under the covers in the bed with us.

I miss our dogs, but we do not have the time to take care of them properly at this point, so we are currently sans dog. But not forever. The love provided by 4 legged family members is unbelievable.

My Dog Emmitt is not allowed on the furniture, and definitely not allowed on my bed.  In part because he sheds soooooooo much. However- I have often come home from a ride to find him jumping off the couch.  Funny how he knows not to do it when I'm here, but as soon as I turn my back he's on the couch.  Stupid Smart Dog.

He is kennel trained - so if I'm gone for a long ride or run - he sleeps in his kennel.  I will not let a dog (or my cat) in my bed.  My cat actually sleeps under my bed.

Short haired dog - but you would never guess it by the amount of hair in my vacuum cleaner every week!

The middle pic is when I was fat and before I shaved my head.

Be interesting to see what they came up with. So far it sounds like they may have stayed out of the hardest things.

The home page lists the swim as a loop, but on the course page it's listed as point to point?  Hopefully it's the latter so you don't have to swim against the current!!  Bike with 2100ft of climbing and a run with 700ft of elevation... it'll be interesting to see how quickly this one sells out.

That's nothing - the Fast and Flat crowd will be helping this sell out very soon!

That begs the question to the Manatee's.  Are y'all in that "Fast and Flat" crowd, or in the "The tougher the better" crowd.

Me personally - I want tough!  I plan to do that race back east (can't remember the name) where you get your name in brick if you make that climb.  You know - the one where everyone is falling over!

While I love a good challenge, and LOVE to pass people on climbs (hence O'side and considering St George) I wouldn't mind trying a flat and fast just to see what I could do on a course like that. However, there is no flat near me so that won't be happening any time soon.

Again I say come to FL.  Rev3 Venice. Fast, flat, not too cold. And the added bonus of dinner/beer with DubSix and TW.

This is what she told dad soon after her surgery--I am hoping that she got it right and the drugs weren't making her muddled: They did exploratory abdominal surgery this morning and ended up having to do a full hysterectemy as they found a cancerous uterine tumor. As of now, it looks like they got all of the cancer and she will not need any chemo or radiation.

I am alternating between being completely numb and crying my eyes out. she doesn't want visitors right now, so I will have to wait to talk/see her. I did leave a message on her cell, so I hope that I will hear from her soon. My dad is doing ok--all things considered, he is pretty numb as well.

This was not AT ALL what I was expecting. I don't even know of anyone in our extended family who hashad or does have cancer....with all of us its always been heart issues. I just don't get it.

^^^Sending prayers for that!!!

Hope you get to see her soon.

Someday. I'd like to do one with an OWS on the "right" coast. I saw one of the Rev3 is going to be televised in the next few days.

It'll be interesting to see what people get as they actually ride it. The volume of hills isn't much per what's been listed, but the roller potential is still enough to really sting you if not careful.

And as for what type of race, the occasional flat short course is fun to really hammer and just fly, but otherwise I want some adventure.

ETA: And Savageman is the race with the brick. Better do it soon ('14 or '15) as they are running out of room for bricks.

Very cool find and what a cute little critter!!

What I find funny is that this "newly" found critter has been in zoos for years!

Little did Helgen and company know, this little critter has been hiding in plain sight. For years, museum curators, zoo keepers and researchers mistook the olinguitos for their relatives, the known and named olingos.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...don't ask if it is an olinguito...

Since you will already be in HM shape and all: http://www.databarevents.com/saltys.asp

Just signed up - thanks for posting this.  Will you be doing this race?

Coming out of the blue, I'm sure that this was very shocking and scary; but the good news is they found it.  As others have said, hoping for a smooth recovery and that they got it all.

X2 - Thinking of you and your mom and a nice quick recovery.

It is - but the race starts at 6,224 feet of elevation, and it will probably be 95 degrees by the time I hit the run.  Not only that - but there is a 5 mile climb at the beginning of the ride.

For a guy that trains at sea level and an average temp of about 70 - 75 degrees... this is one hell of a challenge.

Savageman - that's it!  Will put it on the list for 2015.  Next year is all about KQ for me.

Is it cheating if you change out your cassette, or do most people change it out for that climb?  I have an 11 - 23 right now, but I think that climb would be pretty tough on a 23.  I think I could go to a 25 or 27 right for my lowest rear gear right?

It's the Westernport Wall.

Hell, you can go 11-36 if your rear derailleur is long enough. (I wouldn't recommend it, but you could).

Are you already running a compact crank? (Is your bike in the Manatee Porn Gallery? Why can't I find it?)

Oh goodness, yes change it out! People go with more than that on a compact front and still struggle mightily. There isn't just one hill, but a whole bunch. The Wall is just one notable point in the race.

Ha!  This reminds me of my old Sheltie.  He too was not allowed on the couch.  He would get down when he heard the keys in the door.  Strange how the couch was always pre-warmed for me...  As he got older, he was a bit slower to get down, and we would get the door to opening and just see the last foot leaving the couch.  "Who me?  Nope, wasn't on the couch, not me".  Then, when he was really old, we could get in and get changed for a walk before he would wake up.  Oh, the look of guilt on his face when he would lift his old head, clear the cobwebs, and realize we were coming up the hallway from the bedroom.  Busted!  He was so darn cute we couldn't scold him...
