amymengel - 2009-04-11 10:38 AM What does the last weekend of June look like for a BT gathering on the Louisville course?

If we're talking June 27 and 28, it looks good for me.

I also like end of June.  By then everyone should be able to ride the out and back portion and the the loop x1.

sjweber - 2009-04-11 7:54 AM I feel so behind the ball. Trying to follow a plan but debating on getting a coach to lead me in the right direction. I am swimming 2-3 miles with no trouble. The longest bike I have done so far is 50 miles, and I am running my long runs at 12-13 miles with a bit of a struggle (I am not the best runner, and I know that going in). Bricks are going ok last one was 40 and 4. doing a HIM next month. I guess I will see how I do and modify from there. I know doing a half that far away is not ideal, but that is the way things are going. I just feel under prepaired. Louisville is coming and I just want to be ready.

Not to worry.  You are in a good starting place for training.  20 weeks is long time!  Just gradually build your endurance.  If you can bike 50 miles, next week bike 55.  Heck 5 miles is nothing right.  Then the following week your longest ride will be 55 miles....so go another 2.5 miles out (and 2.5 back).  Before you know it, you will be biking 112 miles!  ;-)

BTWm my logest ride this season is only 29 miles.  Oh yeah, that happend to be my only ride out on the road this year too.  So my encourgement about us having 20 weeks is directed at me too!

Stick with it, you are doing great. If you are at 40 just like Mike said, keep going a bit longer and it will come. Have confidence in what you are doing and continue to forge ahead.

Let's plan on the 27th & 28th of June for a BT Louisville training weekend.  We can work out the details as time approaches.

Well this morning was my first ride to work. Got up at 4:30 and was out the door by 5. I was supposed to go 2 hours but only made 1:34. My toes and face could not handle anymore plus my light sucked so I could not see out past 3 feet in front of the bike. Not the way I wanted it to go but heck I got outside! Only 27 miles though. Darn temp was 32 this morning.

Living right next door in Michigan I feel your pain. I got out yesterday morning and the first bank sign I saw was 33 degrees. Was planning on 4 hours but had some front tire issues at about 2 hrs in. Used my first co2 to fill it back up  but about 20 min later it was low again so I knew it needed to be changed. GOt out my second and final co2 and realized it was punctured so there I was in BFE 30 miles from home with a $6000 dollar useless weight to walk.

Called my wife and walked for over an hour to the nearest town where she came to get me. Not fun at all.

Yeah that doesn't sound like any fun. 4 hours already that is pretty good. Which plan are you following?

Trying to follow the one my coach has for me but it always seems like "life" happens on a weekly basis and something happens

Regarding the BT mini camp....does anyone know if a portion of the river will be open for us to swim?

The river was not open for swimming when I was in Louisville for practice last year.  I may be open for an "official" IM training camp, but it wasn't for a casual get together.  We did walk around and check out the swim start area.

I just completed New Orleans 70.3 (I learned a lot) and now my main goal is Louisville. I am planning on doing several sprint and oly tris between now and KY.

I'm not sure which training plan I should follow - the half to full bridge (12 weeks) or start over with the 20 week full plan.

I don't want to lose any fitness - I guess I want it all - I would like to be fast in the short stuff while preparing for the full ironman. Any suggestions?

Not to get off subject here, I won't be competing in IM (maybe in a few years) just started in this sport and did my first tri, but I just finished signing up to volunteer again this year.  It was a lot of fun last year.  I signed up to help out in several areas...check in, bike catching, chip retrieval...so I hope to meet some of you here in Louisville.   Good luck to all of you in your training.  You are all an inspiration to me.....

Michelle, you are an inspiration to me.  Thank you for volunteering!  This race wouldn't happen w/o all the wonderful volunteers who help us achieve our dreams.

When you see a 6'3", 250 lbs guy in a florecent yellow/high vis shirt, yell at me "Hey Mike, I'm Michelle from BT" and I've give you a big sweaty hug!  OK, maybe just a big smile and high-five.  :-)

microspawn, I'm in the same boat....finished the LoneStar HIM in Galveston last weekend. I had the same concerns about losing long run/ride fitness, so I'm basing my plan on the BT 20-week Intermediate, but boosting some of the long run/ride mileage to be a little better fit for where I think I'm at right now.

There was just an article put up on the IM site stating that Mike Reilly was going to announce Kansas  70.3.  It then goes on to state:

..." Reilly will also be announcing each of the Ironman events in the United States this summer and will again be at the finish line for the 2009 Ironman World Championship in Kona on October 10th."

I guess that means we will get him in Louisville (not Canada).

This is great news!  It was kind of a bummer to me that I wasn't (hopefully) going to hear his voice bring me over the line.

How's everyone doing?

I was planning on getting back to my regular training plan (I ran a marathon on the 5th) today.  The last week has been pretty slow.  I've been on the bike a decent amount and in the pool a couple of times.  Haven't ran except for a 10K on Sat.

Anyway, I felt kind of crappy today so I went and got a massage.  It definitely helped work out some of the kinks in my legs and feet from the marathon.  I'm hoping that tomorrow I'll jump right back into the plan!

Hope everyone else is doing alright!
