Awesome...   hope your friend enjoyed the marathon.    One of my good friends won the whole thing..   I am soooo excited for her..  

you are in SJ,  I am a little far north...  San Mateo actually,  do you train on your own?   


Actually she didn't, she thought it was harder than the bazillion times she's done Boston, but that's OK.

I have a whole posse of family/friends that I do most of the long rides with, I love to run alone, and I swim masters. So sometimes alone, sometimes not!

Looks like it's going to be 90 degrees this weekend for the Soma triathlon! Which got me thinking, how hot is too hot for a MOPer, 1st time IM racer to use an aero helmet?

Last years IMAZ was perfect conditions, 57-79 degrees, wind <10mph!

My goal for Sunday is the volume and not the pace, which will definately be below race-pace.  My brick of 6/2:30 on a Saturday two weeks ago went well and I felt good on Monday.. No soreness or leg deadness.. Worked in a run/walk routine during the run that I will use during the race.  Was able to complete 12 miles in the 2:30 time.. For this run I plan on 15-17; easy pace.  Per my coach, this is the last long brick I will be doing.

I'll be careful...  And thank you for the advice...  If I feel it is becoming too much I will cut it short..



How did it go last weekend?  Hopefully you did awesome..

Ok BT Folks, I have been absent from BT for a while. For those that do not know me or my story, here it is in short:

I DNF'd IMAZ 4/13/08. I made it between mile 17 & 18 on the run before the medics pulled me off the course. Again in short, I suffered from hyponutrimia (sp) OVERHYDRATION, which quickly turned into dehydration. It was one of the worst days I have ever had. DNF'ing was something that I NEVER thought would happen. I was ready, both mentally and physically, it was just not my day. If you said to me on race day that I was going to DNF, I would have said you were crazy!! After a very rough summer (2008), and with the support of my wife and family I signed up for IMAZ 09.

So, I have put in the training. I took a low stress approach to it. I do not care if I am fast, as long as I make the cut offs. All I want is my $500 T-shirt and medal.

I have not posted here much in the past year, as I just wanted to do the training and get to Ironman. I did not want to make a spectacle about it. I feel very good about my training. I feel very good about the race.

I am ready!

So for those of you that do know me, I am still here and will see you in a few weeks. For those that do not, well, I am here and will see you in a few weeks as well.

So, where is the party?

Well...  Started out a bit shaky as I started my "ride" at 5AM, the crimsom one...  Oh yes, it was gonna be a tampon/tylenol day....... It was cold when I started out on the bike and knew after an hour that the pace would be below what I have been doing.. That was fine as it was about the volume..  Did 79 in 6hrs on the bike and started out on the run..  It was cold, windy and overcast along PCH and was doing a good pace to my turnaround at 1:45..I even added some walk breaks to make myself slow down and not push too hard..  About that time I got a cramp in my right groin area and decided to stop...  Up to that point I was fine..  Iced and rested a couple of days and today's 2hr ride went fine...  Coach giving me a break this week and we will pick up next week.. I am "fully joyed" and ready to rock and roll..  I have worked hard for 8 months now and will leave it all out on the course..   Hope you all are hanging in there..

I know your story and I am so proud to know you..   I cannot wait to catch up and definitely see you wearing that medal proudly..     you are a true ironman...   and yes,  there will be a party...  go back and check the trhead,  somebody is having a get together.    I also did not posted much until a few weeks ago.

absolutely hungry all the time... I think I'm burning through my stash of Clif Bars at the office..  got my longest run (2:30) in this morning. A few more long rides and it's taper time!

I cant eat enough. And my weight isnt going up.

I swam a cold chilly lake 4000 and 4500 yards the last two days respectively and swallowed more water than ever, and thats got my stomach a bit upset. SO the cure was to eat double to push that lake water out of my intestines haha

I think I need to start backing away from this thread.

  • ..whenever I open it my heart actually starts pounding.

  • Overall, feeling pretty good. I know my place in the race (BOP) and I'm comfortable with that now (I used to get really worked up knowing that I'm a late night finisher). So I'm doing everything I can to not obsess over cutoff times and such. I've done the math with the bike cutoff times and I'm fairly confident that I'll be fine...staying out of my head is proving to be my biggest challenge.

    I've got my last huge weekend coming up. A 21 mile run. 2 hour straight swim. 120 mile bike + 90 minute t-run. I'm hoping I make it out alive. It should be the final confidence builder I need.
