Expert 770 Long Island, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread If you ever use an eighties/nineties boy band as an excuse for coming up lame in a race again, you should snap the band's CD and use the sharp edge to slit your wrists. Both the excuse and act are so weak they wouldn't kill you, but you'd deserve to have those scars forever. I can see your blog title now after LP: Hangin' Tough |

Pro 4608 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Dream Chaser - 2009-12-29 9:53 AM I started my New Years Resolution / LP Diet Saturday ... and I'm down 5 lbs already Anyone else (especially guys in the M35-39 AG) feel free to eat, drink and be merry throughout the New Year. Heck don't worry about training or diet until mid-Spring. We got plenty of time. Really. Question: Has anyone done both the Rhode Island HIM bike course and the IMLP bike course? And if so, how would you compare them? The reason I ask is because I've done the RI HIM course twice and after "watching" the Lake Placid Coach Troy DVD, the courses seem very similar. The first 1/4 of the RI course is flat, but then it's rolling hill after rolling hill, with lots of false flats and long gradual climbs. I've done both and the RI course is easier than LP overall. The courses are similar in the easy start and longer gradual climbs vs. steep climbs, but I find the LP course to be more challenging in the latter third than RI. I was able to ride much harder/faster in RI than ever in LP. The last time I rode LP was late October on really diminished fitness and at the 42 mile mark I was at an average of 17. The final stretch of the course dropped my average significantly to 15.74. So while I was able to speed up at the end of RI, I don't see it happening at LP. That said, I don't think LP is crazy hard, I struggled more on the IMWI course, but that just may be me and my preferences. Long steady hill climbing will have you more than ready. |

Looking at your new avatar pics I just might! Damn, girl, you clean up nice! Whats that new song by Akon 'Damn she`s a sexy chick" = gopennstate HA! That song is on my ipod. It's gonna be more like Baby Got Back if I keep up the cookie eating and lack of training. Allright, I'm off to throw down a couple k in the pool. My sneakers got some play finally yesterday, but it was run/walk and I am not logging wussy training. LazyMarathoner has a good reason to do run/walk, GPS does not. Galloway and I had a good time reacquainting ourselves yesterday. I miss him so... ps--a 17 minute run in the Charlotte airport that maybe got logged 2 weeks ago was not wussy training. That was full on VO2 max! Hey! I'm easing out of the run/walk! It's really sad this sport has reduced me to a mall walker but dammit, I'll have my revenge |

Master 1410 White Plains NY | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread I have decided to volunteer for Lake Placid this year. Signups will be open in January. What is the best volunteer position? I am looking for a position that will give me a great overview of the race but will also allow me to see all of you athletes so I can cheer you on. Thoughts? |

Coach 10487 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Dream Chaser - 2009-12-29 9:22 AM Okay. Jorge...LM... your thoughts? LP Loop vs. Rhode Island bike course?? (Not including the first flat part of the RI course). I was about to reply until I saw you are part of the NKOTB fan club. I almost stopped coaching Jen when I learned that, now I'll just say that yes LP bike course is way easier than RI! Naaaaa, RI is easier than LP for sure, some gradual climbs and turns here and there but overall LP is a bit more challenging and a course which will smack you right on the face on the 2nd loop if you didn't pace correctly on the 1st one. |

I strongly recommend finish line catcher if you aren't squeemish. People are a sweaty mess and some are in real bad shape, but you can spend hours just drinking in the joy found at that line. I did it in florida for 9 hours (with a few breaks) and really really enjoyed it. |

"you've failed miserably at training yourself for 2 weeks to start getting back in shape so I am making an executive decision and taking over..." So I guess it's on! |

I have been known to partake in a cookie or two myself. But what is one to do when plates of them appear on the counter out of nowhere? My poor 6yo son has to plead with me to leave him one or two. |

I never stopped "training," however it seems my workouts are starting to change that my coach provides, so my guess is we are going into a new phase....I don't ask many questions....I just do as she says. Except when she says dont eat junk, as the past 2 months have been a consecutive binge of crap......... |

Who hasn't started and when do you plan on starting? I started my plan just this Monday. I going to follow the BT Beginner IM plan till the 2nd week in March, when I will transition to the 20-week BT Intermediate IM Plan. The way I look at it, we only have 6 months to get in shape, cause three weeks are tapering. Cusetri that's an excellent point, holy cow -- those 22 weeks went faaast! |

O' yeah she'll quit 3 times as well. The only thing that pulls her back is telling her she'll beat every body on the swim. |

Specific prep for IMLP starts sometime after the Phoenix Marathon in Jan. But even the marathon training over this winter is geared towards working on my running over the winter, to get ready for the next IM. |

That's way I instated the 48 hrs rule with Jenn, IOW she couldn't make any decisions until after 48 hrs of a bad/tough session. That work well to keep her from quitting every other week; 7 months later that girl surprised everyone including herself! |
