SSMinnow - 2010-10-27 6:15 AM I'm blowing in (literally with 50mph winds....) to find out who's got big RACE plans this weekend?  a few details please!

For everyone else, what's the one piece of technology (tri or otherwise) you purchased that you regret? or feel is totally useless?  Share so we don't all make the same mistake!

I have a 15K this weekend.  Have tried to find a costume (2 different things and neither works for that distance for many reasons) with no success so I have bagged that idea (not worth the effort anymore) and this is now a "hard training run."

This is were I need some input from the "runners" in the MG.  I am struggling a little bit with what I been told should be my strategy for the race.  Based on my current Vdot, I should be a little under 1:15 (pace overall at 8:00 min/miles) for this distance and thats where I have been directed to shoot for even without any taper.

So the current race plan from the EN group is to.....go out at Z3 (8:10's) and hold on till mile 6 or so and then kick it to Threshold (7:50's) for the finish?  The last 3+ miles are gonna suck but.....Threshold here I come.  What are your thoughts on this type of race execution?

Are you sure you can't hold threshold for the whole thing?  If it were me in my running shape, I would just be at threshold until the last 2m and then kick up over it and hold on.   I can feel my threshold? ??H?R??????? so I never look at a watch....?

You know if the pocket is to small on the Fuelbelts for all your goodies, you can always add a pcoket on right?

.

As a side note, would anyone do this in a million years? $1000? laughable.

I already signed up...for all the IMs I plan to do next year.

Sadly, there will probably be people who will take advantage of this.

I bought a swim tempo trainer that I have never used.  I tried it when I first got it, but it was more distracting than anything else.  Not even sure if I could still find it...bottom of some gym bag...

btw, I also have the Fuel belt helium 4 bottle.  super annoying but it got the job done...not looking forward to dragging that thing back out in a few months.

Says one of our in house awesome swimmers...guess you can just have it Tony

Kyla, it is this little thing that is like a metronome that ticks at a certain rate (you choose it)...put it in your swim cap and it helps keep you in time...when I did the TI workshop, they recommended it...

kkcbelle - 2010-10-26 8:36 PM I had a dentist appointment today, and they check bp annually... hygienist commented on my low bp (102/50 or 60 or something, I forget the bottom number) and asked if low was normal for me and I said, "Yeah, I exercise a lot." Then she checked my pulse -- 47. She said that's her new record for a low pulse. Made me all proud. We athletes are such geeks.

I also have very low BP as well. 80/40 around there. :-) It runs in the family. My mom has low BP.  I attribute it to having cats my whole life. It has been a known fact that if you own cats and you pet them, (dogs too, but docile dogs), your BP will drop.   The only issue with having such a low BP is I get a little tired more frequent.   Other than that, seeing the nurses faces drop when they see my BP so low. I told them that it's normal for me. LOL! I think it dropped a lot since I started training. Interesting eh?

I have a Halloween bike ride Saturday that I'm looking forward to.

I think it would be spending a bit of money on a swimsuit from Splish. About 3 months later, it has gotten too big for me due to weight loss.

Technology - none actually. I love my Garmin 305. And that's pretty much all the "technology" that I have. :-

Borrowing it works for me, if we really like it we can just go out and buy one, and if neither of us end up using it we can send it back or "re-gift" it to the MG ; )

I have had a couple coaches recommend one.

Timmy L. - when you have a runner in a run down - throw the ball to the other guy and he can tag him out!
nice comeback right now Giants.
Did you see Bonds in the crowd? It literally looked like he was sitting by himself. There were two blond teenagers in the seats next to him. can't imagine they are with him.

Kim and West coast Linda did you get your free weed after the game last night?  We heard on the news this morning that a medicinal Marajuana (sp?) place in San Francisco was giving out free samples for every home-run the giants hit last night.

There was some crazy weather on the Eastern Coast last night.  Hope everyone is okay.  When I was walking the dog last night the mixture of weather conditions in the sky made for some amazing fall colors.  I tried to capture some images with my phone.  Please excuse my photography skills.

Dang, free weed?  and I missed it?  I'm sure that would have been just the thing for this asthma thing I can't kick! Innocent

I'm sure it was only for those with a medicinal card, they enforce that strictly, ya know.

I'm racing Sunday!  Silicon Valley Marathon!  Excited nervous, yadayadayada.  My ankle is sore and swollen - no idea why, other than a rather small fall last week - so not doing as much as I planned this week.  Decided healing was better than more damage.

Bummed I'm not doing Vegas, sounds like fun!!!

Brought up the new Ironman program at the dinner table last night, and almost had to perform the heimlich.  Jeff said that he'd pay $50 to guarantee entry into AZ next year.  When I advised it was $1000......out came dinner!   This started a conversation on the cost of IMs, and both our boys are stunned that we'd waste $500 for a race, when we're not giving them allowance raises, putting financial limits (less than $40k annually) on college choices, and not driving sports cars.  We didn't mention that the $500 was only the entry fee........

What I failed to mention is the real reason I can't drive a sports car.....I have to haul 7 huge water polo players to a game today.  Yes, during the Giants game.   My priorities are really whacked.

It is amazing isn't it.  The first piece of advise my girlfriend gave me about doing an IM was NOT to total the costs.  I'd honestly hate to know the final $$$.  There is a lot of truth to the saying, "some people have savings, triathletes have gear" and entry fees, and travel expenses, and coaches, etc.

That is what i try to tell Michelle when I think I can justify a purchase.
I could be sitting on the couch spending it on smokes and potato chips. Oh and then probably Diabetic meds, high blood pressure meds, etc, etc.
