First outside ride of the year and the first ride ever on a TRI bike outside ever. I only went for a half hour not because of my lower body but because of my upper  body. My hands, arms and especially my neck is so sore. I was fitted for the bike so I know that's not the issue. It's just getting used to riding in the new position. I don't have a trainer so there was no indoor build up. On the positive side I effortlessly did 8.5 miles and stay completely in zones one and two minus one big hill where I peaked into zone 4 and then back down again. Clipping and up-clipping came quite naturally as did cornering. I really concentrated on my form and felt like my strokes were very efficient. My average cadence was 82 which is slightly lower than what I wanted but for a first effort and not being completely familiar with how I wanted to work my gears I was happy.

My training partner also on his bike for the first time had all the same complaints. Any tips on relaxing especially with the neck? Forearms are also sore but I think that was from gripping too hard.

Practice, practice, practice, is the best way to get over it.  You also just might be tense overall on a new bike.  If you're gripping the bars tight enough to make your forearms sore you're whole body is probably tensed as well.

Tony-I'm pretty sure I didn't understand much of what you just said, but I think you had fun?!?!?

Twin--ENJOY! So proud of you.

For those thinking about a saddle change, should you land on either the Cobb V Flow or a Terry Butterfly let me know.  I have  a brand new Cobb still in the box and two nearly brand new Terry Butterfly saddles (one black used about 100 miles, one whilte used less than 50 miles).  I will sell any of them for far less than retail to get them out of my backstock.

Jayne--Said nicely, "suck it up"!  Either one of those upcoming races could be in even worse weather so embrace the experience.  I did that yesterday and have a certain satisfaction in knowing I toughed it out while others stayed home.  You know deep down you can do it, right?

Anyone hear from our Tracy????  She did an Oly this weekend!

LOL, yes I did have fun Suzy.  Basically my tri-coach was in the same race and 5 laps in out of 9 he sprinted ahead of the big group to try and break away, right at the same time I was moving up positions from middle to front, and I had enough speed to catch him but one of my teammates got there first.

n bike racing if you have a teammate "up the road" your job is to slow the rest of the race down so they can "get away"  If I would have tried to accelerate to catch him, I might have had some other people jump on my wheel to get a free ride up to the break away which is a big no-no.

When they got caught by the group, that means all bets are off.  It's every man for himself.  Unfortunately I don't seem to posess great skills going around a corner quickly so the group took off through the last corner and I had to stand up and sprint to catch back up, which tired me out and made it tough to sprint for the finish line.  Ended up 17th out of 45 or so.

LOL, John I found something I get geeked up for as much as electronics and such, bike racing is a blast.

Hi everyone,  long time no speak.  I know I missed Wednesday's role call but I actually raced this weekend.  Some of you might have seen on the news that NC was hit by several nasty tornadoes on Saturday.  We managed to squeeze the race in just before the storms, then I sat and watched pieces of roofing and insulation fall from the sky in front of my house. Needless to say it was a very eventful weekend.

Haven't compiled my full RR yet, but here are a few of the race highlights.   Olympic distance race that was purely a warm-up race for the season.  I wasn't trying to break any records, rather it was a test to see how my training is progressing and where my weaknesses are.  I can tell you that in 2 words....WETSUIT REMOVAL!!!!   WTF am I doing for 6 minutes in T1?  Trying to get the damn wetsuit off!  It was awful!!!  They had better have wetsuit strippers at Rev 3 or I'm in deep trouble.   However I did have a stellar swim.  I took 25 seconds off last years pace time and swam a mile with a 1:47 pace!!  Gotta give the master's swim coach a big hug on Tuesday!!

The bike was very disappointing, especially considering it is usually my strongest area.  However up to this point I've been focusing on core strength and running so I know where my time will be spent moving forward.  Plus I am riding on a new fitting and trying to figure out how this whole riding on wattages thing works.  It was a super windy day and at one point I hit a max watts of 459 going up hill into the wind and only moving at 8 mph!  My triceps are really sore from trying to hold the bike steady in the wind gusts.

The run was not too bad. This was my first test of the year of my running off the bike legs.  I think I could have run faster if I'd had the Garmin, but I let Doug use it.  I was racing on PRE so I'm still learning what fast legs feel like.  I made the mistake of settling into what felt familiar and that is still a slower pace than what I'm now capable of.  But like I said it was a training day race so not too bad.

But best news of all......I have a job interview today!!!!  Keep your fingers crossed for me.   Sorry I haven't been around much for this new group.  Hello and welcome to everyone.  I'll try to be better about staying up to date.

Tracy

No wetsuit strippers...

Did you just have problems with getting it off your feet.  If that's it someone told me last year I think, just get the wetsuit down as far as you can by hand then stand on it with one foot and pull, i've found that other than sometimes my calf seizing up when I do that, it works pretty well.

Just a question on top of my last insane rant!  I was never told by the orthopedic specialist that I needed any PT.  The only thing he ever said I needed to do was rest for 3-4 weeks.  I've done lots of stretching and icing on my own, but that's it.  It is normal to need PT after just some tendonitis?  He thinks it started just from ramping up my run frequency, so obviously I can't fix that besides just building up slower.  Thoughts?

Suzy - I really do appreciate your input!  Sometimes, I need some good old fashioned harping on.  I'm still transitioning from the "young and invincible" phase to the "a little older and more fragile" phase!  I think I'm in denial.
