I'm on my recovery week right now too, which is 12 hours, which means extra time for weight training, stretching, and other things so im not as anxious as you are i guess.

I went to swim after work yesterday and the pool was closed because of lightning.  I woke up at 4:00 this morning to swim before work and the pool again was closed because of the lightning.  I was able to make it in to a spin class though, so all was not lost.

Hmmm not looking very promising for us. The rain is supposed to hit when we are trying to ride. Sunday looks to be worse as well. Perhaps call it off? Yeah I know race day could be crappy as well but I'd rather not be miserable on a training day just because. Next Sunday I have a 4.5 hour ride if something like that would work out for anyone?

5:15 on the trainer this morning. Watched all of Snatch, Big Fish and Super 8, which amazingly finished almost to the minute my ride ended.

As much as I don't mind being on the trainer, even for many hours, next IM is going to be later in the year so that we have some decent weather here in the PNW to ride in ...

55, rain and sustained 18mph wind (who knows what kind of gusting we could see!) does not appeal to me at all for a training day.  I agree race day is a different story.  I can do next Saturday instead as well.  I am only scheduled for 50 that day, as it's a recovery week, so close enough to get a lap done.  I am so not looking forward to 65 miles on the trainer Saturday morning.

I wish I could do next Saturday but I am doing a race with my sister so I won't be around for that. Perhaps the following weekend we can get something together for a group ride?  I hear you about the 65 miles on the trainer. Not my cup of tea. I even spent last night changing my wheels out to my race wheels which has my 11-28 cassette on. I was looking forward to testing out that cassette on the hills that day.

So whoever else was thinking about coming on Saturday it looks like smithe68 and I are out for this Saturday. Unless some miraculous change of weather occurs.

Yeah, I can't see going on a miserable ride just for the sake of it - at least if it is miserable on race day, it's likely to be 10 degrees warmer.

I'll try to shoot for the following weekend.

Anyone else racing at Rage in Boulder City, NV this weekend? I can't wait to get out and compete! It's been a long, cold winter. Sadly, after the race, I still have to get my long run in. Additionally, we're riding the St. George 70.3 course Sunday morning. Forecast is 80 degrees and sunny! Can't wait.

Probably should have signed up for this one. Look forward to hearing the race report. Good luck down there. Enjoy the sunny weather in SG!

I'm in a recovery week.  I also decided yesterday it was a good idea to eat a whole bag of Doritos and 1/3 of an entire apple pie.  Maybe I'm pregnant...............LOL.

On a side not new chain and 11/28 cassette installed.  Now if those tires and decent weather would get here I would be ready for some outdoor rides.

Bocce ball world championships party (Not really world champs, but that is what we like to say) at my house this weekend then back to the normal grind of working out.

I am a no-go on Saturday.  I am off on monday, so I will be riding the course Monday.  At least 56, hopefully 100.   Company would be great.   Saturday in the pool at the Kroc, and Sunday hopefully a brick.

Next Sunday may be do-able.

Have a great weekend, remember to enjoy the Ride!

OK - we're a tad over 60 days from race day and I've ridden my bike outside exactly once this year...after 5+ inches of rain in the Chicago area yesterday, today we had 30s and snow. Tomorrow is supposed to be cold, windy - and half the roads are flooded - so bike will be CompuTrainer in my coach's basement again...I was supposed to race a 10k on Sunday - but the city it's in declared a state of emergency due to flooding!

Rev3 Knoxville in two weeks should be interesting. For sure it will be the first time swimming outside since last fall...most of it's a river swim with the current, so if I can float like Pooh-sticks...

Yet I'm still fairly comfortable with where my training is at! :-)

I despise my trainer so much I rode through the fluffy white stuff this morning in Northeast Ohio.  Did an interesting 1:30 run followed by an 1:00 bike then a 0:30 run.  My pace is not fantastic, but it was a solid three hours.

To anyone that might live near or know the course, what are the road conditions? Smooth, chip and seal, etc..  Seems like all the roads we ride on are cracked and lots of bumps.  Any insight would help.

I got a solid 3:45 hours in today 3:15 on the bike(was suspose to do 3:30) It was so freaking windy today lol, i knew i was in trouble when i was going 27mph on the way out. Then i did 30 min run to make up for the skipped 15 mins, wasn't scheduled but sounded like a good idea.

Run today was 1:45 - fit perfect with two laps around the little lake where I live, the wind was brutal at times, but at least the rain held off.  Was really hoping to get outside this week for my long bike, but looks like it will be four hours on the trainer tomorrow... ugh!

Weather looks much better after tomorrow, upper sixties and dry for the next ten days.  Planning on about 70 miles on the bike course next Sunday.

I actually had a rare snow-free and wind-free day here in Denver.  Got in a solid 4:30 on the bike and a 20 min run.

Monday, it snows again.  4th week in a row with a Monday night snow storm.  I'm actually ok with that, as long as the weekends are clear.

have questions about the swim. I have never been swam in water that cold.  Any suggestions? I have a full wetsuit. Do I need the booties, or neoprene cap?

If you are prone to being cold at all, I would wear a neoprene cap at least.  I know I wore one last year in my first attempt at an IM and was thankful for it.  I also wore it for practice swims in the lake, and others in the area as well.  Never have worn booties, so I can't say about that.

Definitely wear a cap. I also wore ear plugs because it helps with equalibreum and prevents an ear ache.

Booties are awesome - make sure you put them on first - then the wetsuit - otherwise you risk losing the booties halfway through the swim. Especially for those of us who enjoy our time in the water (read - we're slow - so we spend more time swimming!) the booties are very helpful

Also - in Ironman events - booties are only allowed if the water temperature is 65 or less. I think it was Saturday night lat year the organizers tried claiming the water temp was over 65 - but early Sunday Mike Reilly announced it was "Bootie legal!"

The only thing I would say about the neoprene cap is to make sure you have practiced with it. Because of its buoyancy - it changed my head position from what I am used to.
