We have allowed water running, but key word is running. I'll ask other group elders to weigh in as well.Does walking count? Did a 40 minute walk yesterday morning then went for my sports doc appt to get another opinion about my left leg issues. Took x rays of my pelvis, nothing shows, they want to do an MRI to see if there is nerve damage etc. I'm thinking I'll just try and get serious about my stretching routine, yoga, swim etc, and lay off the bike a bit when possible. |

That is for serious hardcore cyclists and triathletes though, I don't use all the features they have myself. I do however look at wattages and thresholds but don't do all the others (yet).Question for the group:
Do any of you track your workouts in something other than the Beginner Triathlete log? If so, which one? And how do you use the information/calculations/zone information (aside from distance, pace, etc.) to monitor your progress or plan your upcoming workouts? |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Came to Dallas for work, and was hoping to get a few runs in warm weather. BUT my luck Dallas gets 2+ inches of rain in the middle of the worst drought in a centrury. So yesterday was a rest day. I go back from time to time to see how I have improved but mainly it is just to log what I have done. Maybe one of these days or years it'll be more useful should I have someone analyze what I have been doing and to modify my workout plans to help me be faster.

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() A 55 minute ride doing variable gearing on the trainer this morning. The warmup was painful and I had said to myself I will just do 30 minutes but then I got to 30 minutes and decided that another 25 minutes isn't all that bad and what else would I be doing this morning for the extra 25 minutes I had scheduled myself (couldn't think of anything productive to do) for the workout so I just continued to ride. Does anyone else have those thoughts at times during a workout that they want to quit early on? Derek Swim 3 - Bike 5 - Run 6 - Rest 1 - Total 14 Time 11:50:22 |

I initially started with Garmin, which I like with the exception that you track mileage for shoes/tires. This bugs me to no end, as even Strava and DailyMile offer tracking. I run 1000+ miles a year and rotate several pairs of shoes. It's a thing that Garmin users have been begging for, but Garmin pays no attention, apparently. I started using TrainingPeaks because the bikes at the local cycling studio have computers with USB ports so you can save your workout information...which then loads on TrainingPeaks. TP is great...just a lot of information that I don't know how to use - yet - but want to. Guess I need to do some research. Edited by kristaae 2013-01-09 4:54 PM |

Not sure about this challenge, I guess it keeps people honest but my runs are certainly not on par with many posted here. It's all about consistency and effort, not ability. Ability comes with consistency and effort. As far as the challenge goes, if you run it counts, if you have to slow your pace, it still counts. If you go for a walk or a hike it doesn't. The only competition is doing your workouts and time spent. Don't worry about speed, we aren't in a foot race. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My daughter is submitting an essay tomorrow for a sixth grade writing assignment about someone interesting she knows. So while at dinner, I had the pleasure to read the following paragraph: Now my dad is still swimming, biking, and running, but he improved so much through out the years. Even though he started old for a triathlete, that never slowed him down. Actually, he is one of the only people that I know who wants to get older. He wants to do a FULL Ironman when he turns 45! My dad isn’t a dreamer, he is a believer, and that’s why he is the most interesting person I know!
