I had a breakthrough pool session today and just want to share my excitement.

Challenge set from the coach:
3x100 @ 2:30 (these you should have no problem making)
50 EZ
3x100 @ 2:25 (these make get to be touch and go)
50 EZ
3x100 @ 2:20 (you can add paddles and/or pull these. If you miss them then take 5 sec rest and go.)
50 EZ

I made all of those intervals WITHOUT paddles and pull buoy.

I was so excited that I forgot to do the EZ 50 in between the first and second sets. Swimming has been a real struggle for me and I was convinced that I was too slow to do an IM swim and make the cutoff comfortably. I actually see that I may be able to do an IM without the cutoff breathing down my neck. That is exciting for me!

Jackie. it is extremely unlikely that someone would miss the swim cut off time. You will have the wetsuit (pick an IM that allows that). you could be in salt water and you will be pulled by a lot of swimmers. It all helps a lot. The trick is to complete the swim and not lose too much energy i.e. swim slower and practice long swims, that's it.

Congrats on the swim workout Jackie. As you know I struggle with the swim as well as a few others here and know how dufficult it is. What I didn't realize is how much I stressed about completing the swim. Enough to change my whole damenor for the last few weeks leading up to my first Tri. I know you have been doing this a lot longer then I have and are better equipped to handle the mental aspect of the sport but I'm going to return some great advise you gave me awhile back. Relax and "have fun" you got this.

I have seen a lot of you all turning in great workouts on the indoor trainer. What do you do for entertainment/focus to keep the workouts bearable and effective? I find the trainer unbearable, and on those days that I am lacking motivation, I feel like the trainer doesn't bring out the best in me.

The Sufferfest videos. They use race footage and demeaning statements and the pace and resistance is always changing. Otherwise, I find the trainer hell too.

Mark, Mitch, Dennis and Jim Thanks for the encouragement on the swim breakthrough workout.

I got paid back yesterday on my brick run. Miscalculated my bike nutrition and caused some cramping on the run. It was the first time in forever that I had a truly BAD workout. Some are not as good as others, but yesterday sucked! Made up for it on the long run today. Trying the Chi running form.

Good job Jackie with your workouts and your swim!  A bad workout shows up every now and then, but don't get discouraged, it can just be your body/muscles adjusting to your higher level of fitness.  However, it is important to listen to your body and make sure that you are not over training.

Adding 2 hr drainer yesterday and 7 mile run today pushing Gabe Jr on a stroller (he is getting heavy!)
