Call it coincidence, happenstance, or just pure divine intervention but it does strike me as a bit odd that Joe hinted around about applying some of my swim time towards the bike just yesterday. Joe either has some sort of superpower that he is not telling the group about or at the very least he has connections high up within at the YMCA organization.

Well the owner of the bike shop stepped up and did exactly what he said he was going to do. I was NOT expecting a 2015 P3 with Ultegra but that's what I got! I can't explain how stoked I am right now!! How in the world could he hand me a 2015 P3, a $4300.00 bike for $2000.00, when could have just given me 2015 P2 which would have still been an upgrade from the 2014 model?

My totals from yesterday were lost in an update... so added yesterday and today back in!

Yesterday I went for 2:15 (1:00 swim, :30 bike, :45 run). Today I hit the pavement for a 1:25:00 run, covering 10 miles. Thanks to some recent sunshine, the sidewalks were clear and I was able to cover a lot of ground in not that much time.

I completed Stage 8 last night but was just too tired to provide any kind of update so had a shower and went to bed. 2hours 33min

! ran the set in order at 100%. I may have had 5minutes in between as the work out had to save, load the new one and refill water bottles.

Revolver was perfectly fine and I felt I hit my targets and performed well. 1.02IF

Violator was running okay but the ultra short high intensity sprints started to take their toll. My form was super ugly I am sure as I blew out of my pedals a few times and had a very difficult time clipping back in because my legs were shaking so much. I hit the peaks of the work out but dropped off at the end of the intervals. IF was a low at 0.85 vs the 1.06 it should have been

Half was easy was any thing but. The first large group of intervals was a struggle but I felt that I hit the target power in each set. Maintaining it for the 15 seconds seemed impossible and the short recoveries were - short. The second large set was disaster. I came out of my pedals again a few times and even missed a few intervals entirely. This second set had me pretty much just throwing my legs around in circles in a weak attempt to follow the work out. 0.85 IF

Happy to be done it and will not repeat.

Stage 8 2:34:33
Wow that stunk. 6:00 a.m. wake up (I hate morning exercise, no choice today). My son won a local hoop shoot and the districts were this morning and we are setting up a surprise 16th birthday party for my youngest daughter.
This Stage was complete HELL. I started out ok with Revolver (not my favorite), I don't like sprints. Violator I started out solid, but a little fatigued. It took me some time to figure out how to get the power up for the sprints. About half way through the wheels fell off and I came crashing down hard. Half is Easy, was a nightmare. I was in pain, my legs were on fire and my butt was in agony. I even wore the real bike shorts with the gel pad, instead of tri shorts. 12 oz of orange juice, a banana, 48 oz of heed and water, a honey stinger waffle, a GU and a Sports beans. I still lost 4.8 lbs doing this.
I will let you know tomorrow which is worse Stage 8 or 20, 16 year old girls at my house tonight.

Dennis- Love the bike congratulations. It looks bad a$$ (I didn't know they wouldn't let me use the real word, I edited 3 times before I figured it out) with the Matte black.

Stage 8 done. Ended up at about 86% of targets across the 3 rides. Pretty much where I wanted to be. I'm sore right now. I was up past 2am last night entertaining friends, up again at 6:45 and on bike by 7:00. Off bike at about 9:45am and out the door to prep for my daughters birthday party by 10:00.

Hey all, I have a few questions for the group:

1) Dennis's new bike got me wondering - what is everybody else riding? If you've been riding your current bike for a while, what do you like/dislike about it?

2) Does anyone belong to a local tri team/club? I've been thinking about joining one and I'm curious about others' experiences.

3) For the guys, I'm looking for recommendations for some new tri or bike shorts. I currently have a pair of 2XU tri shorts and a cheaper pair, but for longer training rides I could use a little more padding. Do you guys generally use cycling shorts/bibs or tri shorts for your training rides?

GO PATS!!!

So, how best to explain to Stage 8 @ 2:34:33? This was an absolute sh@t show from beginning to end. All sprints and you knew that there was no way you could make the goal. Failure was a forgone conclusion, so how does one embrace the moment? Go at the sucker at 100%!!!

Video #1 - Revolver - simple 16 x 1' of all out balls to the wall. By segment 7 the fix was in and all I could was to give the best that I had. NP 269/IF 1.01.
http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/1596686-Sufferfest-Revolve...

Video #2 Violator- I did this last year without the video. This year with the video was so much better. The visual and audio cues from the video made it challenging, but doable. Except that final set which was a joke. 64 sprints where my watts per KG vacillated between 4.9 and 7.55. NP 259/IF .92
http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/1597587-Sufferfest-Violato...

Video #3 Half is Easy - 10' of 15" as hard as you can go followed by 15" easy; rest 3' and repeat. Really? A whole new level of suckage. There was nothing there. Just survival pure and simple. Did all I could do and missed just about every stage. NP 249/ IF .93.

Total TSS 229 for the day. I went at it hard, did my best and now have one more day left. Tomorrow will be 13 consecutive days on the trainer - the most i have ever done. ISLAGIAT will be rough and painful tomorrow, but there's a great base there once all of the inflammation subsides.

@Jackie - Nice month! Congrats. Can't wait to cross train finally.

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
