Hi All,

If I jogged/walked uphill 17 times at about 30 seconds each, does it count?  How about if it was after sledding down the hill with my kids?  Just thought I'd ask!  I'm trying to stay out of last...I will be running through the 10" of snow or so tomorrow night to blaze a new trail around a farm so that'll get me some nice points if the uphills don't!!  I think I already scored more than last year and that was my main goal.  I had tried to look for last years point sheet but didn't find it (I did find other older sheets just not this one).  Any ideas where it might be?  Or where I could find the totals from last year?

Thanks!

Erik

yeah that is weird I can't find it.

Nice ride Bill, and pics yet?

Watch out for those snowmobiles, if they are like the drivers in Wis they go too fast.

Oh my, that is one beautiful bike! I presume the snow parts like the Red Sea when it catches sight of those tires coming its way.

Bill, what kind of light are you using up front? Is it strong enough to see at night or is it more to be seen by others?

Nice bike Bill. I definitely have bike envy, which shouldn't be surprising since I am still without a bike.
The weather is finally cool enough to get some points again. I did strength training this morning so no points there. Hopefully I can squeeze in a run tonight so I can get some points on the board, not that I can compete with you folks in the lead, but at least I'll have some points this month.

Hey Bill, aka Mr. Mukluk, and all you other winter bike riders...learn me about what bike is ideal for winter riding. I'm thinking about buying a economical mountain bike with BIG tires, low to the ground so that I can get out there a bit. (too skeered to attempt it on a road bike). Do I need special tires, lubricants for the brakes/chains, fenders (or whatever you call 'em)?

hey thanks Bill! Yeah, please chatter on about biking..feel free to share the enthusiasm. Funny thing is, I never thought I'd like running let alone running in the snow but now I love it. Love that squeaking under my feet and love the muffled quiet solitude of it. I also go when its pre-dawn. If I ride, it would likely be pre-dawn. I'd use common sense and wear my head lighted gear but important thing is I want to feel low to the ground so that I can easily steady myself if I feel I need to put my feet down on a slick surface.
I used to have a mountain bike... years ago and sold it to get my rode bike. I've kept a hybred for family riding and still would like a true tri bike... maybe I will ditch the hybred for a mtn bike

I got a decent session in yesterday morning that got me over 400 points! I went out as "stormaggedon" was starting up. Now it's in full tilt with tons of point potential if anyone wants to come here and train. I think I'll sit this one out...

nichip - 2011-01-27 6:46 PM charlie,
I passed you again!  This reminds me of when I run marathons...I do run/ walk, so people will pass me and then when I run again, I end up passing some of them.  It makes everyone happy!

I ran on Sunday and hadn't added the points, yet.  You are very close, though.
Nichi

Glad to see I'm not the only one around here who does a run/walk in longer races. Anything over a 10K gets a 5:1 ratio.
I would be having a great week, if it weren't for work. Between people needing time off and my regular schedule I would be racking up some nice points. Clear cold weather all week with no snow in the near future and I am sitting inside watching it pass me by. We have a big snowmobile race in town so I'm going out to run in the dark like I usually would, to many new crazys who don't know I'm out there. The locals in my neighborhood all know to watch out for me.

BbMoozer - I have this bike:

http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_503476_-1_201675_10000_200281  It came in a big box and there was some assembly required, but it was "easy" (or so I am told)

I wanted cheap, low to the ground, HUGE tires.   They have big tread, too, and I feel very safe.  I prefer this over last year's winter bike, which was a steel 10-speed with studded tires. I felt too high off the ground and the wheels caught ruts very easily due to their narrowness.

My bike is very very cheap and weighs a lot (also a good thing).  You do need to wash and lube stuff more, in theory, due to road salt.    This works great on a freshly plowed road and pretty good on a path where the snow isn't too deep.

wgraves7582 - 2011-02-03 7:30 AM Scored some awesome points (not quantity but quality) this morning on a ski trip through the back forest.

I need to do that more often!

At first I thought you skiied through the Black Forest. What a great place to ski.

I discovered this morning that -4F is just about the perfect temperature for a track workout. I had that oval all to myself this morning

Stay frosty, Michigan.
