That's very cool! I finally watched it, as my internets were being really slow. Athleta is taking over the scene, I've noticed |

(One of them tangentially). I know I keep saying how awesome and incredible it is that endurance sport and multisport have just TAKEN OFF here in the last 4 years, but it's just been amazing and dizzying to be part of it from the ground up. These are from the inflight magazine of our national airline (Garuda, in case anyone is a trivia buff) ... so cool. I mean, think about how relatively popular cycling and triathlon are in the U.S. and whether two such events would be featured in the magazine of a major carrier. My sister is organizing something like a Tour de Bali, a multi-stage charity cycling challenge around the island. Unfortunately, it's the frickin' WEEKEND BEFORE Ironman Japan (which is on Aug 31)! The beautiful building is the private-club restaurant at the St. Regis resort that it seems tradition for me to go to before Ironmans for their 50-course Sunday brunch (I've never managed more than 40, though). I have a date with my brother and sister to go there on Aug. 18 to get me out of depression taper, motivated to go race, and send me off well. That's awesome! What? You can't HTFU and just use it as a warm up for IMJPAN. Ahhh I love Japan. Yokohama and Tokyo are probably my favorite cities I have ever been to.
Additionally, when I come visit let's have an eat off. I think I can at least get to 41 I have an advantage. Included are free-flow cocktails. I don't need cocktails. Pshhhh, I've already learned that in the case of an eat off, I don't either. Actually it's pretty rare that I drink cocktails anyhoo. Member I'm a beer girl. That other stuff makes weird stuff happen, usually including misplaced clothing. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes) As much as I hate to interrupt Yanti and Salty's discussion of falling victims to misplaced clothing, I have a kind of silly question, biking-related. When I had Rico out this past weekend, the front brake made a hella awful screeching, moaning noise. Everything looked to be copasetic: brake pads seemed OK and without stones/gravel, pads seemed equidistant from rim, and nothing other than regular road dirt on the rim. Thoughts as to why the front brake sounds like a tormented soul? I recall it making some noise last year but not as loud as it was Sunday. |

Nothing wrong with the actual stopping function though, right? You might just need to scratch up the surface of the pad itself (with sandpaper) or adjust the angle that it sits on your rim ... |

Thoughts as to why the front brake sounds like a tormented soul? I recall it making some noise last year but not as loud as it was Sunday. How old are the brake pads? Actually, even fairly new-ish ones can wear down (especially if you're in traffic, braking a lot, riding the brakes on downhills etc) in such a way that the brakes hit the tyre rim flat instead of at a slight angle where the front part of the brakes hit first. Doesn't mean they need to be replaced; just adjusted. If you spin the tyre and squeeze the front brakes slowly (may need to do it several times), you should be able to see the front part contacting just before the rest of the brakes press on the rim. If they're hitting it flat/all at once, you can SLIGHTLY loosen the bolt so that the front part (toe-in, that's just the term) makes contact first. |

Did you clean/wipe the rims? Did you wipe the gunk of the brake pads? |

I just added a bunch of issues to their log and I suspect they are going to get a bunch more today. Little things like the search box doesn't search (probably did not hook it up yet) and what is this new Experience thing (?) and once you add equipment, how are you supposed to... Not to worry though, the new site is improving all the time and I think that they'll have it whipped into shape soon. I just felt a little bit bad unleashing on them like that! |

Change is never fun, so he'll be hearing enough just about how things are different, blah, blah, blah. But I thought overall that it was really moving in the right direction. And looks like things to check for the noisy brake are covered. I actually did that on purpose back in college. People kept stepping into the bike lane without looking. That way I was both braking and setting off a very sharp instantly recognizable alert that got their attention every time. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes) Thanks for the brake-noise tips, gang. I will do a more thorough inspection of the pads to be sure nothing is in them, will double-check the angle they hit and wipe the rims down. There may be a chance I got a little Bike Lust on them when I cleaned him up to put away for the winter last year. I'm guessing as nice as Bike Lust is for the frame it is probably not so nice for anywhere else, albeit unintentional. And Janyne and Chris, kudos to both of you for helping with the testing of the new site, it sounds like you are doing a very thorough job which is so important. Like others have said, catching it and fixing it now in the testing stage is much better than after it goes live. I wanted to help but currently I'm doing some similar work at my job and very complete testing can drive a person batty! |

Walking in the house is like floating. amd723 - 2013-05-09 4:34 PM Asalzwed - 2013-05-09 3:56 PM I definitely feel like I stand out in them, but not having pain is worth the stares. Of course, more and more people know what they are, so lately I've gotten more questions about how I like them vs. what the hell are they questions.amd723 - 2013-05-09 2:58 PM TriAya - 2013-05-09 7:39 AM I began using them because of the capsulitis issue in my foot. Wearing them it is not as affected compared with normal running shoes. As an added bonus I found that my legs don't get nearly as tired on long runs and running the next day I'm fresher than I would be.brigby1 - 2013-05-09 6:58 PM amd723 - 2013-05-09 5:16 AM jogo - 2013-05-08 8:12 PM Welcome to club Hoka! I love mine, even though I do think I look like I'm running in clown shoesShoe Porn!! Got these today! I've read good things about them, but keep thinking of these. HAHAHA! Memory lane. Nice score, Jo! Hokas or Moons, either would be a step up (literally?!), the way I dress. Too bad they're not available and cheap here, otherwise I would try them. I seem to fit into the GENERAL (lots of outliers of course) demographic that does really well with them--heavy (for my height), likes to run, could use a little bit of center-of-gravity foot landing help, and arthritic (not gonna say older). Heh heh, I am supposed to be meeting a BTer to run next week. He wrote me a PM just to give me a heads up he has Hokas and that I can't make fun of him for them. When I first saw them on someone I thought it was a joke. Do you guys remember those moon shoes in the 90's?
