Now - the next step is to design a BDAS logo. Below are two options that we played with last July. the first is by Alan Dempsey (a former BDAS member) and the second, I drew up (with the help of my wife). I'm not set on either and I'd love to have people upload designs this week that you would like the group to consider.

So - our goal for the week is to come up with a few designs and then we can vote on them over the week end. Does that sound like a plan?

I figured I'd take a swag at it for you. I can't draw, but I can do some decent things on the computer.

David - Thanks for stepping up and doing the work in regards to the logo. I think it's a great start. I really like what you how you kept the nice clean look and I think the bottle is the best part. Could I propose two changes. First - Could you erase one of the A's? We used to be the Beer Drinking Appreciation and Accountability Society but we dropped the second A with this reiteration of the group. So, could you redo it so it just reads BDAS? Also - is there any way to add (I don't know what you would call them) but the pointy ends that stand in for the straight lines in the B and D? Alan - when he made it - had pointing things that suggested the lines. I'm not sure if I'm making any sense but I think we need something to make the B and D clearer to read.

Thoughts?

Dan and Jeremy, welcome!! It's an awesome group here - supportive, knowledgeable, and will hold you accountable!! oh, plus there is a lot of beer talk.

Yesterday was my first fever-free day (since last Tuesday night)! Yea! However, I have lost 5 pounds (for me not good) which brings me to 119 on a 5'8" frame so I have zero energy. does that count for the weight loss challenge? Desire for food still hasn't come back but I'm sure it will with a vengeance at some point; then the muscle building begins.

I would love to do a plank challenge - or any challenge really. it will take a day or two for me to get into it (starting slow as I recover) but I am so happy to be getting over this. I'll look back to see what the plan is for February - I think I saw something about 7 workouts in a week? I'll check.

Live with meaning!!

Ugh! Wow, that is skinny! I'm 5'8" and I weighed just under that at the end of my growth spurt when I was 13... and I was ridiculously skinny. I have since gained, um, almost 70 lbs? Yikes. But I hope you feel better and have an appetite again soon.
I really like the idea of a plank challenge!

I'm a slacker (sorta) and didn't get my 200min done. Sick kids all week (getting better now thank God!!!), wife on-call for the weekend and a snowstorm.
I had 55min to do, with 1:05 planned on the trainer. Trainer ride didn't happen. Wife was called in to deliver MY COUSINS BABY!! So that was cool, but she was there all night during the snow. She needed some sleep the next day. Then shoveling, helping my brother-in-law get his semi unstuck (parking lot, no biggie) and family stuff. Just didn't get it done.

CLP for me.

So, are we doing this Feb weight loss thing or what?

I was 238 yesterday. Feb goal = 233 with a stretch goal of 230!

-Kurt

Doesn't sound like you need to take a CLP for that. Snow/ caring for kids/ letting wife sleep are all extenuating circumstances.

I also really like the idea of a personal weight-loss goal. My goal will be to see 17x on the scale by the end of the month (I'm now at 186-189 depending on time of day and time of month). If I don't hit it, March will be one big CLP- every beer I drink has to be a light beer. I think the fear of the taste, and the embarassment of ordering light beers (not pale ales, but beers with "light" in the name) will be motivation to stay away from the brownies.

Moonrocket- Last year they claimed a water temperature of 68 degrees on May 31st. That may well be true, at least for the top two inches. Below that it was decidedly brisk, but not uncomfortably so. I had done a sprint in Windsor the week before, and that was much colder. Freeze your face kind of colder. A wetsuit is definitely recommended, but there were a few hearty souls going without one. I just look at cold water as an encouragement to swim faster.

Great morning so far, hope everyone else is having as good of a day as I am. Woke up somewhere in the neighborhood of 3:50am and decided that instead of laying in bed any longer I would get up and hit the gym early, doing my planned run (38/400) before my planned spin (39/400). Both workouts went well and I really like spin class, even though I know it isn't the same as the trainer or biking on the road. At this point, anything that gets me on a bike-like object and performing a pedaling-like motion is progress over where I was last month. I hate the trainer, so I found many excuses not to do it. Now, it is 7:50 and I'm already at work and ready for the day (opposed to a 9am roll in that was planned). Tonight is racquetball night! Excited!

Shirt designs are looking great! I have no artistic talent at all, so I'll keep my nose down and vote when the finalists are announced.

What was the weekly challenge--seven workouts with at least one being non-sbr to help keep us healthy? I'm at 3/7 for the week then. I'll figure out that non-sbr workout, probably yoga on Friday or Saturday.

Love both, not sure on the font.

I not sure who it was but someone mentioned "powered by hops" What about putting that in small lettering under the main logo?

Great job!

I had volleyball last night, so I guess I am 1/7 (lots of jumping). I was going to go to bodypump this morning, but got stuck in traffic on the way home behind a really bad accident. I saw a little too much and am still a little traumatized, so I stayed up to watch some funny TV. Had some weird dreams last night, didn't sleep well. I am going to swim tonight before my lesson and try to get back into the right mindset.

I think those logos look great, btw. If you want, I can send them to my dad and get an idea of what the cost of bike shirts would be. David, do you have an idea of how many we would want to get? Also, is there a bike shirt/brand that you had in mind?

Loving the logo changes, and agree totally on the 'powered by hops' tagline. (aviatrix/Jenn posted it)

Definitely need more info on the new road bike Jeremy! I believe geeking out over gear is my second favorite thing about tri training.

Gretchen - 3 workouts today - insanity! When are you doing an IM? You've already got the three-a-days down.... BTW I think Dave made the goal for the week 6 workouts with one being yoga/PT/etc. to prevent injury. You go for 7 though, at this rate you'll be there by tomorrow

Slow start to the workout week for me, my swim got cancelled last night since they closed the Y due to another foot of snow. The piles at the end of my driveway are taller than my car. The end of the streets at intersections are taller than that. Guessing Jenn is laughing at us from Burlington though ! :D
Wife is doing yoga tonight, so I'm taking the little one grocery shopping and taking care of the house/bedtime routine. Tomorrow night will be a double for me.

On the beer front, two things. Transferred my Two Hearted clone to secondary yesterday (2ndary on 2/2) so I have a good feeling about that. Smelled awesome, which for a partially fermented beer is saying something.
And, did anyone see the Budweiser Super Bowl commercial jabbng at craft beers? The one where they said 'you go enjoy your pumpkin peach ale'? It pissed me off a bit, but then today Northern Brewer released a kit for, kid you not, pumpkin peach ale. Peach of Resistance - 'No suds, no rice, no pretense - beer worth fussing over'. AWESOME!!!

Nicole - sorry missed this while I was posting. That stuff really bothers me too, sorry you had to witness anything. For me the best thing to get my mind quiet and forget about stuff is workouts. Seriously, it's one of the few times when there's no bad stuff swirling around upstairs, while I'm focused on the workout at hand. Your swim tonight will be great for you!

That's a punishable offense!! Punishable by replacing it with a 4/6 pack of the same.

Getting fitted tonight after work.

Have the trainer in the family room already just waiting for it to come home.

Looking forward to the first outside ride this year

First road bike for me, did my first one with my wife's TREK Hybrid that was a little too small for me.

My son actural has a nice Cannondale CAAD 8 that he got while in high school

Seriously! Doesn't the man realize he's married to a bad a$$ who could snap him like a twig? Talk about deserving a CLP! It sounds like you can now head to the beer store and buy whatever you want in order to make it right!

I got back on track this morning with a strong workout in the pool. When I dove in at 8 am (I was blessed with a second snow day), I was the only one. Within 15 minutes, three people had joined me - all seriously athletes. One had a Ironman 70.3 swim cap on... Damn - they were fast! I felt like I was sharing the pool with royalty. But swimming with great athletes/fellow triathletes really pushed me to raise the level on my game and I had the best swim I've had in months. Sure, it was only 500 yards - but it was a strong 500 yards.

I'm gonna celebrate it later with Jack's Abby? John and other New Englanders - have you tried that stuff yet?
