Decided to do a 10k on Sunday, since I'll be passing through the area on my way to Grand Coulee anyway. This will be a fun one, since it's my very first 10k so it's sure to be a PR lol.

That'll be fun!!!  Good luck!  I love racing in new areas.  I guess I like the safety factor.  Happy traveling!

I'll have the results up soon.  Have to wait for the true numbers but I think I did right around 7.25 miles in 1 hour.  I was shooting for 7 miles so I'm happy.  I'll post a couple pix on my album soon too.

Another Saturday, another brick. I took a different bike route today. It was going to be about a mile shorted (17.2mi) but I missed a turn and ended up doing 18.6mi. It was windy again today and the headwind I started out in felt like a head wind again on the way back. I was a teeny bit slower than last week. My T2 was a little longer because I didn't run it into my backyard and I took the time to pull off my tights. For the run, like last week, it felt like my legs had a mind of their own, setting an awesome pace, and coming in a bit faster than last week. Overall, it all felt harder this week, but I'm pleased.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone! Tracy & Roni -- how did it go?

I had a great race. I was hoping to finish in 1:35...I did 1:29. And PR'd the 5k! I'll probably do the RR tomorrow, which also happens to be my birthday. :-) I'm going to sleep in and then eat a big breakfast!

you know tracy i got up one morning a few months ago and was heading out the door for a run . when i grabbed the garmin it was dead . and i had a long run that day so i rode up to the track and did 10 miles on it . well that was the last time !! i was so ready to get off that thing . now before i put the garmin down i check to make sure it is turned off.
but i think it would be kinda fun with people out there . tooling along at a good clip like you were you must have been passing the same people like every other lap . and i think that would have been a mental boost . here i am again , there i go again bet the ipod was well worth having though .
but i do agree with ya on you 5k and 10k looks like they could go down anytime .

It was fun doing it with other people!   I was picking the same people off lap after lap.  An added bonus were the tips on form from the more advanced runners.  We got to watch each other for an entire hour and see what happened toward the end of a hard hour.  What is the bottom line that I am coming away with?  The good runners suffer at the end.  The best milage was 9.3 miles by a 60 year old!  I want to be like that!

Nicole, I just counted my laps like I do when I'm swimming!  Ugh!!!  Verified every now and then with the volunteer lap counters, too.

Anyone have much experience with wetsuits?

today marks the first time I've tried swimming in my wetsuit. With the triathlon just 2 weeks away it's about time. (It was a bit strange; I can't believe how buoyant I was!) When I first hopped into the pool I didn't feel water rushing in anywhere, but as I started stroking I could feel it getting in, but I'm not sure if it was coming in at the wrists, neck, or through the material at the shoulders. With each stroke I could then feel it moving around the arms. Is this normal? I know it's supposed to be wet inside the suit, but should I feel it moving around? It's certainly possible that my suit is a bit too big.

The pool was too warm today to swim for long in the suit, so I practiced running up the steps and stripping out of it. Even though this suit has zippers at the ankles I was surprised how hard it was to get my feet out. Any tricks I should know? I'm really glad I didn't wait until race day to try this, and I'll probably do it again at least once more before the race.

Hi Nicole. In my experience, you should be getting some amount of water in there. However, if you feel it streaming through (especially if it's coming through the neck or armholes, assuming you have a sleeveless), it is likely too big. There's probably not much you can do about it before your next tri, but afterwards you can probably have a wetsuit shop take in the seams for you. I'm heading to my local shop to have mine taken in before Pacific Crest. Yay! The good thing is that even if it is a little too big, you'll still be warmer and faster than without it.

Tricks to getting it off: AFTER you put it on, spray from the knees down with Pam. When it is turning inside out as you take it off, this prevents it from sticking to itself and becoming a huge pain. Make sure you spray the skin on the tops of your feet too. The trick is not to get too much on your hands/arms as you're taking off your suit, as that could spell disaster with your bike handling.
Good luck!!!

Official results from Beaver Freezer are posted. I placed 164/276 overall, 53/113 female, and 14/22 in my age group (F25-29). I've always been behind more than 50% of the entrants, so I'm really happy with this!

My splits:
Swim = 00:09:14 (1:50.8/100yards) < T1 = 00:01:42
Bike = 00:44:58 (16.0mph) < T2 = 00:01:11 (and that includes running up and down T2 twice because they blocked off my area while I was out on the bike for some reason)
Run = 00:32:13 (10:23.5 min/mile) <<5k PR!
TOTAL = 1:29:18

I'll do my race report tonight when I get home so that I can include photos.

aahh getting the wet suit off can be a chore . i have talked to people wwho have used pam like sarah said , but the only bad thing about it i have herd is it can also cause a sunburn . kinda like baby oil and dark tanning oil mix. i had a guy at the race i went to in december spraying himself down in the trans. area well needless to say he pissed alot of people off cause he way spraying them too. the miami tri i just used my body glide from knees down back of neck and elbows down and had no problems at all it came off easy . and mine dont zip on the legs .

hey sarah you had a great race there

I only used the body glide on my neck. Next time it'll do my lower legs, too.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep em coming!

Oh yeah, I hadn't thought of the sunburn. Since I mostly race in the Pac NW where the sun refuses to shine, it hasn't been an issue for me. Sunblock, that's a whole other issue I have yet to deal with!

My race report is up.

And...I just signed up for Chelanman Half Ironman in July. Oh lordy, what have I done...
