Plainsman AU - 2009-10-08 4:57 PM In a non wetsuit race, could one wear "tri shorts"  made of neoprene...for the bouyancy benefit?  What exactly is the definition of a wetsuit?  Or does the rule say not bouyancy assistance?  I think Desoto advertises their short with a "float pad"  meaning it floats=bouyancy.

Was just thinking that for a HIM or IM that was not wetsuit legal, a short size neo suit over your swimsuit would be awesome.

I'd say just suck it up.  The way you are improving with your swimming, you will be giving Michael Phelps a run soon.

Barry

Did you just admit you were planning to do an IM? Cool!

S

Hey, I was a little slow with that.  Good catch Suzy.  Just in case you are wondering - Louisville is still open Barry.  Sign up now!  You know you want to.

Yes, but I am scared!

That was pretty cool.  When I have some more time I will look for me too.

Tracy, did you think the course was crowded?  Granted there were a lot of people but I didn't have any problems running the pace I wanted to.

As I posted previously I have not been sleeping well, probably due to the taper. Well last night I got to bed and fell right asleep! At 1:20AM I am awakened by a beeping. Turns out the battery in the smoke detector in our bedroom decided to die! Of course we have no 9 volt batteries. So at 1:30 AM I find myself at Wal-Mart buying batteries!! So much for a good night sleep! Why last night? Oh well.

I was kidding about seeing myself.  Good luck picking yourself out.  As far as the course being crowded - I didn't think it was bad.   few times my arms got whacked by people's elbows but that was within the first 3 miles.  And no matter how large or small a crowd, I hate runners who cut you off when the pass.  It is just like driving a car folks, don't cut right in front of me so that my next stride will land on your foot.  But overall it was spread out nicely. Running down the entire road will do that for you.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.  Either you are a smoke detector stickler or didn't really want to sleep.

Our detectors are wired into the house. I could not just disconnect it. It was either fix it or sleep outside.

When I stayed in the dorms in college for my first year, people thought it was funny to pull the alarms during exams.  So we stopped getting out of bed.  One night I heard my roomate get out of bed as the alarm was going off.

WHAM, WHAM, WHAM.  Alarm on our hall stops.

Next moring the alarm is sitting on my desk, problem solved...

I wonder how I order one of those?!  I am pretty sure the P4 is dead due to standover, but I did find a dealer in Milwaukee who has a P3 48 that I can at least try out.  Heading that way on Tuesday for meetings so I have nothing to lose. The GURU Magis remains an option, but i need to get my bike guy to set up the geometry on my road bike to check it out. The perils of being a runt.  Swimming lesson tonight to learn breast and back.  I promised not to complain so I won't.

Good luck this weekend to all the racers.  I know you will report back promptly!

PS Barry, the best IM is WI.....Comunity Fund?

Mine are too (as are most these days), but it'll still come down unless it's some super fancy thing I've never seen.  About a 1/3 of a counter-clockwise twist, unplug the harness, carry to garage, sleep.

And if wired correctly all others will still work (they're wired in parallel).

Not that you need to know that now...but next time...

"I did IMC many years ago, finished in a PR time for me, and was relaxing in the hot tubs in transition after the race. (I don't know if IMC still has the hot tub sponsor, but they used to have a large number of hot tubs by the finish line for people to soak in after the race). I started chatting with the guy next to me - the usual stuff, 'how was your race', 'tough day out there', etc. And feeling pretty bad about my fitness because he looked like an elderly, out of shape guy who must of beat my PR time since he was in the hot tub before me.

So after chatting for 10+ minutes he looks at his watch, stands up and says, 'well, I'd better start my run'. "

So last night- Ryan thought it would be a great idea to go Mtn. Biking in the PITCH BLACK!! He has lost his marbles!  I got creative and added an extra light to the ride!! So I had a mounted light, a headlamp, and an extra light (Yes those are Zip-ties!)....

Worked like a gem!

Yes, I saw it, but it is a road bike with aerobars!  Nice looking, but NOT hot!  It is probably tri geometry, but I could get that with a custom Seven in ti.  Since I am not fast, I wanna look cool like all of you do.

Tony, pretty funny.  I dont recall there being a big issue with bathrooms when I did it.

Off for my swimming lesson...jealous Kim?
