Jeremy Congrats on the race. It must have been a right PO to have such poor direction markings. I have fortunateley not run into that but it would sure p!$$ mo off.

Andy Congrats on your race too. Looking forward to both RR.

TrevorC - 2009-10-11 10:02 PM Doug & Andy...1st Oly is done!! Regardless of how it went, you finished it.
Funny Sam, when I was reading Jeremy's race issue I was thinking the same thing. I always have tonnes of people in front of me. Never have to worry about going off course.
Thats tough though Jeremy. You'd think a race would be better organized than that.

Suzy- I know..I know.

I'm right with both of you on not having to be the point man. The only way I would go wrong is if the Pace B I was following went the wrong way. Then again they usually just disappear into the distance anyway

Hey John and Andy...you two can have the suds and I'll take her arms and back muscles. Whoa! Lean and ripped.  Well, you may as well throw in the legs too. Way faster than mine.

Ok this isn'treally post padding cause I can't remebrer all that gores on here so I have to answer as I get to them.

Chris I know exactly how you feel. I have been having trouble getting out myself. I have only been out a few times since my HIM about a month ago. One of them was a spur of the moment 5K race which I surprised myself in and ran it in great time. I don't have any more races planned this year and have to work getting motivated too. Watching Ironman Kona was pretty inspiring... I am looking at joining a tri club in town and finding someone to train with. Training by yourself gets boring pretty fast when you don't have a specific goal. The other thing I am doing is setting up a light training schedleu for the next couple of months. Last but not least I am going to start playing hockey again. A great diversion while still trianing you body.

Wow, busy day here at mg...are peeps working on Columbus day? I am sad, all of my goggles are now leaking except for one pair that seems to suction so hard it really gives me a big headache. I am looking for suggestions! I know I am sort of petite so that is a problem as lots of them just leak. I have tried Tyr, Aquasphere, currently have these "view" goggles that are good but only for about 3-4 months. Did a pretty hard swim workout today where part of the MS was 2 x 300, 100 arms only, 100 kick, 100 free. Arms only? are you kidding me! wow, this was so hard the first 100, but actually got better by the third...and boy it made 100 free feel super easy. I guess there is some method to this madness. Chris, you just finished your race 2 weeks ago, my god, man, rest a little. I did, and didn't feel bad about it at all! (did I???) I don't think so, I just did short stuff, took a spin class once a week, got in the pool 2x a week and ran about 2-3 x week. Just don't lay on the couch eating bags of potato chips or eat pints of ice cream and you'll be fine! I don't think I liked to run before starting marathon training but now I am digging it. Mostly liking the gains I am making. It helps when you live in the most beautiful, runner friendly city in the US! Sorry Steve, I know Seattle comes close! Congrats to Doug and Andy! Way to just fight through it to the finish! My first oly was very similar. I was a sad camper, but then I realized I could really learn from it. Have a good day everyone!

Do you guys think I've spent too much time doing nothing if I wanted to do a half mary on halloween?  I've run up to 4 miles feeling fine.  I have to do something.  This is just driving me crazy!  I am either mountain biking or taking my first spin class ever tomorrow depending on how much things dry up over night.  I don't want to rut out the trails if it's too wet.  Today, I got in a 45 min swim followed by a two mile run on the dreadmill.  It was cold and rainy here today.  It only got up to 60 degrees.Wink

I'm with you on the hockey Rob.  I quit almost a year ago after playing for the past ten years.  I just don't want to get hurt.  I've spent too much time and money in tri's to get hurt doing something on the side.  Just as with tri's, I can't hold back in hockey either.  I have two speeds - wide open or stopped!  -I gotta work on that.

For goodness sake do the dang half mary...  if you feel good then go for it.  Pay attention to those nagging aches and pains if they show up  - that's your body trying to tell you something....  I would take some time off to do some cross training or something for a little while if I were you...

Heard it was good.  My Sister in-law raced it this year.  Lots of running in the sand and on trails.  Can you really go wrong taking a trip to Hawaii, and racing?!

Plainsman AU - 2009-10-12 9:00 AM Chris...Get off your A$$ and get out there and do some SWBKRUN!  Seriously,  you had some great fitness that you worked really hard for for the HIM and you don't want to let all that go.  26 miles is a LONG way, so you might think about getting your run volume where it will need to be.  Obviously the marathon would be a great way to pull that off.  Critical volume for the ironman is only around 60 miles of running per week, so you have plenty of room to work with  Couple that with CV for the bike at 300 miles per week, and I would say that you got your work cut out for you.   Not to mention the swimming.

Consider this your kick in the A$$!  Hope it was motivating

Hey

Who told you critical volume was 60m of running for an IM?  I don't think I have a single friend that pulls that kind of mileage for IM WI!

S

Critical volume is supposed to be 7/3 for the run and 8/3 for the bike.  This is suggesting that one needs to be doing that amount of volume before they really need to worry about getting faster...so I guess that means that CV is the volume to be performed in order to easily do the distance.

I would agree that kind of volume is huge and probably not doable by many age groupers but thought I would throw it out there in jest...for Chris

(Thank you all for the encouragement after this weekends race)

Next up (drum roll, please!!!)

VEGAS!!

My wife and I will be child-free for the weekend (Thu-Sun).  Thu Fri and Sat staying in Henderson at a friends house.  Friday riding the bike course... in a sad attempt to acclimate to the hills - or to see what I'm in for.

Saturday race and then back to the strip.  Saturday night staying at the RIO and rollin' VIP to the VooDoo Lounge.  Prolly hit a few other clubs as my wife has never gotten to party things up in Vegas.

Plan to meet some BT'ers and local triathlete's.  It's gonna be a lot of fun.

Hey I was just checking out the Lonestar website...(Dreaming of course.)
There is a prerace dinner included. I saw extra Tix were $27 for spouses.
You guys going to that dinner?

And role call is Suzy,Tony,Sam,Andy and John. Anyone else? All moody gardens?
And i guess since this current mentor thing ends in December, all you guys need to join the same group again don't you?

I would hope everyone here stays put and we just add to the MG.  We truely have a group within a group, and it will be interesting to see how many want to join in with us in Dec.  You don't have to look hard to see how much fun we are having in here.  GO SWBKRUN!

I'm trying to contain my excitement....Trevor is actually looking at the Lonestar website! Three cheers!
I believe we are all at Moody Gardens and we are NOT going to the pasta dinner.  Think John is responsible for finding our dining location.....

I'm in for another MG round....and of course Birdy has to be the leader!

Yeah no pasta dinner.  I highly recommend Mario's on 61st Street.

I love coming in from my morning run and the kiddos are still sleeping.  It means that outside of going to the office, I've done my work and the rest of the day is there time.

Yeah not snowing here, thankfully, supposed to be 71 degrees today but starting the next few days highs are supposed to be in the upper 40's and rainy.

You did get that treadmill right?
