I went to Headsweats.com to buy a new running visor. I could buy a new blank visor for $19 or a Kansas IM 70.3 visor for $9. I bought the 70.3 visor. I have never been to Kansas (probaby never will) and will never do that race. It is just a hat. Nothing more, nothing less. There is nothing sacred about IM branded clothing.

For me, I am not going to freak out because I have never toed the line at that race, and if anyone asks 'How I did" I will tell them I got the hat on sale. period

Maybe they have IM Kona hats on sale...

I would nail it to the wall in my garage - right above where I keep my bike.

x2

Use it for motivation

I see no difference between you wearing the visor, and someone walking around in a NASCAR t-shirt (or any professional sports jersey).  You're a fan of the race whether you completed it or not.

Jon311024 - 2009-04-27 6:00 PM I don't think there's any way I could wear it and feel comfortable, especially like someone mentioned if somebody were to ask or compliment you on the race.  What I would do though is hang it up right in plain sight in my room, so that every time I left for a workout I would be reminded of how bad I want to crush the race the next go around.  Good luck!

x2. If I DNF'd because of a spectacular bike crash, got hit by a car, or the race was cancelled due to weather or something I'd wear it proudly.

You could also tell them you don't do the short stuff any more.

They gave us the IMKS shirts that said `Finisher' on them the day before the race last year, which is why the race got called when the lightning rolled in. I actually hung my finisher's medal up on the rack and left it there I was so angry that the race got called. I regret that because it was a really cool medal.

That said, I'd wear the hat. Who cares? If someone asks how you did, just say `I won.' and walk away.

Who cares????  It is your head.  If you need to block the sun from your eyes and the visor is what you have, f-ck the dumbsh-t, put it on!!

It all comes down to whether you're OK with it.

Personally, if I bought a souvenir from a race that I signed up for and DNF'd, I probably wouldn't wear it, but that would just be my own personal bias. I don't think it's taking away from anyone else's accomplishment or anything, but it would seem "tainted" to me somehow.

It's up to you, though. Wear it if you like it. There are no real rules governing whether you wear it, contrary to what others on here may say, so if you like it go for it.
