Elite Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm impressed with the people who actually know who Les Claypool is! Usually I get a blank stare and a "who?" nevermind. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() bmax I get that alot with most of the music I like coz its not the commercial crap normally playing on the radio. Les is one of the greatest bass players (I think anyway) and I just love the faces he makes when he's playing! Now I've got John the Fisherman in my head! |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Amen I hate the radio. Clearchannel has ruined the radio (in the US at least). I would say one of the best was when I saw Dave matthews and Smashing pumpkins at the Dallas motor speedway in Oct. 97 (was part of the Rolling stones bridges to babylon tour...but came for just those two bands and left before the stones...no me gusta the old men in spandex), but that is such a huge venue and being that it was outdoors there was a copious amount of smoke (ick). Was way fun though. NOTHING compared to Bad Religion (or the like) in a small venue. |

Les is a great performer and his fingers move so amazingly fast! Yeah, I know what you mean. Most bands I like never get airplay. After posting on this thread, I had to pop in Primus live at Bonnaroo. By the way, I see you're in Australia. My dream destination!! Cute avatar too. Where did you find a platypus anyway? |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Stacers - 2005-06-17 8:11 AM I saw Dave Matthews open for the Samples at Red Rocks in 1994 (?) before they had a CD out - awesome show!! I've been kind of disappointed with all their shows I've seen since they hit it big - just not the same as that first Norah Jones at Red Rocks was a good show too. Any show at Red Rocks, for that matter!! Oh, and a band that always puts on a really entertaining show is Guster - they're hilarious in any venue. I have to agree on the Red Rocks. Anything there is awesome. I have seen Dave Mattews, Norah, Pearl Jam, and a few local bands. Guster is awesome. I always feel a little old at the concert, but it's worth it. That's how bare naked ladies used to be before they got huge. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've like the shows at the small venues too. Mostly Canadian artists, cause that's who plays at small venues around here: Holly McNarland, Barenaked Ladies and Bif Naked. Of course Barenaked Ladies are bigger now and I probably wouldn't pay to see them now. They used to be fun, but not so much anymore IMHO. ![]() Worst Concert: Sarah McLachlan at GM Place. However Sarah McLachland at Lilith Fair and other small venues was good. Jen |

COURT JESTER![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If comedians count, the wife and I saw two of the KINGS OF COMEDY, Tim Conway and Harvey Korman here in Rockford. They haven't lost a step since the days on the Carol Burnett Show. We left and it felt like we had a face lift from laughing SO HARD!!! For music, George Strait puts on a simple a wonderful concert. Lynyrd Skynrd. From back in the day: Billy Idol, Ratt, Poison, Cinderella, Alabama, Charlie Daniels.... |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() max - 2005-06-17 3:35 AM I would have liked to seen Chris Ledoux....very sorry to hear of his recent passing ![]() Yeah, I was really sad to hear about that too.... He was just spectacular, what modern country music should be. And the genuine article to boot. He rode a mechanical bull, while singing, with fireworks all around him for the encore (and that bull was really going!). Now that's talent! LOL! Amanda- Ani DiFranco is one I forgot to list. I think her in Flagstaff, AZ in probably 1997 or thereabouts was my first real concert . I remember being blown away at watching this tiny little woman just explode with energy. I think I just sat with my mouth agape the entire concert.... |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kimj81 - 2005-06-16 9:28 AM Second best, Open Road. They are a small bluegrass band (but worth seeking out if you like bluegrass) and sing all around one mic. Saw Open Road last October at the Tucson Bluegrass Festival. Great show! My husband loved the show, so I got him their latest CD for Christmas. Best concert for me was Tool (can't remember what year...but not long after Aenima came out). Best small venue concert was Tori Amos in Tempe a few years ago. It was held in a really small theatre and wasn't highly advertised, which was cool. Rufus Wainwright opened and he was fantastic! I'd love to see another one of his shows. |

There are no words to describe her voice. Pure and wild and incredibly erotic. |

We've got a great non commercial radio station in Aust JJJ, and it has no commercials which is fantastic but it also plays great music. So we are pretty lucky I get to hear most of the music i like on JJJ. thanks I like my little playtpus pic too. Its Peg Platypus from the Kangaroo Creek gang, a cartoon from when I was a kid. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Triple J is great. I used to listen online all the time but I can't as much now. I miss Adam & Wil. I got turned on to a bunch of awesome bands that way. The Sleepyt JAckson, Little Birdy & The Panics come to mind. Just a coincidence, but aren't they all from WA? Some other shows that stand out - Widespread Panic at Red Rocks - not their best show but that place was made for them. I did see Panic at Keystone with the Rebirth Brass Band which was great. Leftover Salmon in Park City during the Olympics - just a small outdoor stage on a 20 degree night but they still picked away... |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() courtney_leone - 2005-06-21 12:21 PM The best concerts were always Pat Green. I think I've seen him at least 20 times, always a good time. I went to school in central Texas so that's all we did. And he played everywhere. Even frat parties. AMEN...I have it playing in my office right now. |

I just saw Def Leppard 2 weeks ago...pretty good. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() courtney_leone - 2005-06-21 12:21 PM One summer I volunteered at an outdoor concert venue selling beer and saw Blink 182, Kiss (which was crazy! EVERYONE was dressed up and I think Gene Simmons ate a live bird or something) I went to a Tori Amos concert, her hard core fans dress as angels.... it was strange, kind of dark, goth angels with goth makeup and customs, black wings.... If you are not into that you feel out of place. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My favorite concert has to be the yearly Bridge School Benefit at Shoreline Ampitheater near San Fransisco. Its an all acoustic show put on by Neil Young. Over three years there I saw: Neil Young, James Taylor, Counting Crows, Pearl Jam, REM, Tracy Chapman, Thom Yourke, The Other Ones (surviving members of the Grateful Dead, Jack Johnson, Dave Mathews, Ben Harper, Tenacious D, etc., etc., and the greatest of all time: BILLY IDOL. I am not a huge Billy Idol fan, but even acoustic he blew the roof of of the place. Other best concerts (large venue) include: Jethro Tull Rolling Stones Pearl Jam (all seen for free!) Best small venue: Ozomatli w/ a few members of Jurassic 5 at the Hub at UCSB. |
