Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() lean proteins, veggies, fruits & nuts. i should add, this is very little restriction. with 2 workouts/day, I have 4 opportunities to consume grains/high GI. Even with only 1 w/o, I have 2. I sould add, after only 1 week of doing this, my energy is more level thoughout the day. I still drink coffee and drink booze. we have an annual keg party in Sept/Oct. only requirment is you must do a keg stand before you leave. All BTers welcome. Edited by cusetri 2009-06-25 11:31 AM |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have one beer after working out from time to time. I did last night. I really don't think it is going to hurt anything. I consume a scary amount of caffene. I really don't think the caffene is going to hurt training. I am a competitive person and want to win but I also want to enjoy life. Believe my workout makes it so I deserve the beer. It is something I look forward to. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I bust my hide, so I think it's ok to reward myself with a few beers every weekend or after an intense race. I'm a coffee junkie and need 1 cup every morning. Just 1 does the trick for me. |

Hrm. not sure how much a "scary" amount of caffeine is, but you might want to look at some of the studies on nerve dysfunction and long term caffeine consumption. John |

Mainly, sticking to protien & nutrient rich foods throughout the day, and only eating grains 1 hour before and 1 hour after I train/race. why are you afraid of eating grain outside of the +/-1 hour training window? That sounds like a weight loss plan, not peak performance plan. didnt say I was affraid of it. interesting article I read by a tri coach. he said there is no point to it. he said its no different than sitting at your desk and eating a gel packet...why would you do it? both foods have similar effects on your body. The tri coach is wrong. Caffeine can elevate blood glucose levels and indirectly raise insulin levels, but if you're not consuming carbs at the same time, what exactly is that going to do to you? It's the effect EXERCISE has on you. They're not even remotely similar to consume. The coach is talking outta his/her rear. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am not human until I have had my latte in the morning.......and usually end my day with a cold Corona. Does it hamper my performance? I dunno. I had my fastest bike split ever the day after drinking with some awesome BT peeps. Perhaps it helped??? |

Didn't Joel Friel recently go Palio? I think he has a book out now on the Palio Diet for athletes, maybe that's what 'cuse is referring to... just guessing. |

Smoked, fall off the bone covered in bbq sauce get all over your face ribs. Dang, now I'm hungry again. Bryan, ever been to Kazmiers in Scottsdale? GREAT cheese and fruit plate. |

The thread's all over the place. I assumed it actually stayed on track when it hadn't. My fault. Ironically, the argument doesn't really change if you substitute "grains" for "caffeine". I tend to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you're accurately portraying what he said. If it is indeed accurate, then he's incorrect. There are a lot of "coaches" out there that have no idea what they're talking about on certain subjects. Edited by DerekL 2009-06-25 1:34 PM |
