lean proteins, veggies, fruits & nuts.

i should add, this is very little restriction.  with 2 workouts/day, I have 4 opportunities to consume grains/high GI.  Even with only 1 w/o, I have 2.

I sould add, after only 1 week of doing this, my energy is more level thoughout the day.  I still drink coffee and drink booze.

we have an annual keg party in Sept/Oct.  only requirment is you must do a keg stand before you leave.  All BTers welcome.

I have one beer after working out from time to time.  I did last night.  I really don't think it is going to hurt anything.  I consume a scary amount of caffene.  I really don't think the caffene is going to hurt training.  I am a competitive person and want to win but I also want to enjoy life.  Believe my workout makes it so I deserve the beer.  It is something I look forward to.

I bust my hide, so I think it's ok to reward myself with a few beers every weekend or after an intense race.

I'm a coffee junkie and need 1 cup every morning.  Just 1 does the trick for me.

mmrocker13 - 2009-06-25 10:16 AM I think the tiny, mini, eensy, weensy possible gains I may make by giving up my thermos of coffee in the AM and my alcohol in the...other times would not come even close to offsetting the annoyance I would have at giving up those two things.

they still make thermos' ?

Hrm. not sure how much a "scary" amount of caffeine is, but you might want to look at some of the studies on nerve dysfunction and long term caffeine consumption.

I've been really focusing on nutrition lately.  Mainly, sticking to protien & nutrient rich foods throughout the day, and only eating grains 1 hour before and 1 hour after I train/race.

Two items that I've thinking of cutting out are caffene and alcohol.

Well, caffene I think can be used before a race as a legal performance enhancer, however I believe its a high glycemic index food, and why consume HGI foods if you're not about to race or train?  so my thought is to stop caffene and only consume it before a race.

Alcohol is the one I battle with.  I dont drink a lot.  But when Saturday night rolls around, I want a few beers.

So, what do you all think about this.  I understand the whole "Life needs balance" and "you gotta have fun" thing.  I'm talking about the 3-4 months of peak season when you want your body at its maximum.

What are the performance gains of a nutrition plan that is as good as your s/b/r training plan?

why are you afraid of eating grain outside of the +/-1 hour  training window?  That sounds like a weight loss plan, not peak performance plan.

didnt say I was affraid of it.  interesting article I read by a tri coach.  he said there is no point to it.  he said its no different than sitting at your desk and eating a gel packet...why would you do it?  both foods have similar effects on your body.

The tri coach is wrong.  Caffeine can elevate blood glucose levels and indirectly raise insulin levels, but if you're not consuming carbs at the same time, what exactly is that going to do to you?  It's the effect EXERCISE has on you.  They're not even remotely similar to consume.  The coach is talking outta his/her rear.

I am not human until I have had my latte in the morning.......and usually end my day with a cold Corona.
Does it hamper my performance? I dunno. I had my fastest bike split ever the day after drinking with some awesome BT peeps. Perhaps it helped???

not sure what you're talking about.  in the post you quoted, we were not discussing caffene one bit.

also, I would prefer you say I probably screwed up understanding what he wrote and even screwed up trynig to expalin it here, than say he is takling out of his rear without having read what he said in its full text.

i'm not going to post it as he is not here to defend himself....

Didn't Joel Friel recently go Palio? I think he has a book out now on the Palio Diet for athletes, maybe that's what 'cuse is referring to... just guessing.

x2. All kinds of cheese. If cheese were nutritionally complete, I'd eat nothing but that. And bacon. Oh, and filet mignon.

John

And ribs. Smoked, fall off the bone covered in bbq sauce get all over your face ribs. Dang, now I'm hungry again.

Bryan, ever been to Kazmiers in Scottsdale? GREAT cheese and fruit plate.

The thread's all over the place.  I assumed it actually stayed on track when it hadn't.  My fault.

Ironically, the argument doesn't really change if you substitute "grains" for "caffeine".  I tend to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you're accurately portraying what he said.  If it is indeed accurate, then he's incorrect.  There are a lot of "coaches" out there that have no idea what they're talking about on certain subjects.

This diet is more paleo based thorughout the day, and added in grains before/after working out.

i'd be happy to PM the link to those interested, I just didnt want to post it as the writer is not present to defend the ensuing criticisim.

I train hard, so that I feel no guilt whatsoever when I drink a cold beer with my dinner

Specifically, Bell's Two Hearted IPA.

This is awesome! My husband had this beer (probably one of his post training rewards) and decided to brew a clone. Didn't quite come out the same so we have a "Half Hearted IPA" on tap at home now...

what was the name of the beer you guys had the night we had dinner at your place last summer? I never remeber the name of it but I love that beer!

Keren Smyers usually has a beer during pre race dinner or at least I've seen her doing so in more than one ocassion prior Timberman in previous years...
