Just go slow and steady and reallly nail your nutrition.  If you miss 100 calories here and there you will feel it after the 4-5 hour mark.  If you keep the nutrition and hydration good, it is just a keep going kind of thing.

Hey all you Boise 70.3ers, two months to go.  Is anyone else moving into panic mode?  The bike is scaring the hell outta me and I need to figure out this whole nutrition thing.  I feel like these 8 weeks are just gonna fly by!!

I've got a 4-hour ride this Saturday where I am to find a course similar to Boise and test all my nutrition/hydration - I'm a bit nervous so I hope this is a good test run of everything. ACK, 9 weeks to go!

The clock does seem to be ticking a tad quicker lately. It is getting a bit harder to stick to the plan as the workouts get longer and it seems like other parts of my life are calling out more loudly for attention (wife, kids, job, chores, etc.). Everyone has actually been great about it so maybe I'm just feeling guilty or selfish.

Anyway, the BT plan has been working good and I am more fit than I've been in 20 years. I think that it is natural to feel like its not enough but I'm trusting that what I do each day will pull me through. Hope it all hangs together 2 more months.

Expect there to be some wind. It tends to shift from AM to PM, with the afternoon start you can expect to have a stiff westerly (NW/SW) head wind near the airport. Good Luck.

I posted this in the main forum, but in the interest of other attendees:

It mighta been nice to get an email from the event organizers that the shuttle tickets were available, but in the interest of a PSA, I saw this after purchasing mine:

Brief Description

Shuttle buses to/from the swim venue from downtown Boise. Tickets are one-way for athletes and round-trip for family/friends.

Please assist us in planning for the proper number of buses by purchasing your ticket(s) no later than April 30, 2009. There are a limited number of buses in the region, so it is important that you book your seat(s) early.

Thanks, didn't even think of doing this early.

This crappy organization is honestly me off a bit. Oh well.

So, can someone drop you off at the swim start or do you have to take the bus?  I will be there with my wife so she could theoretically slow down and I could get out if they allow you to get close enough to the swim setup.  Any locals or folks who have done this know how the whole bus/friend/wife drop you off at the lake will work?  It would be nice to have some kind of info about all this if we are expected to decide about whether we need a bus ticket or not by the end of the month, but don't know if you can get dropped off by a family member at the location.

Getting regular email blasts from a local organization for sprints and olys and nada from this one does alarm me, considering the "magnitude" of this, but I'm so verklempt over surviving the bike :-) that I guess I'm overlooking the lack of intel regarding everything else.

I guess I'll figure it all out when I get there.

What I'd really like to know more about is bike transpo -- I was going to cart my own, but I'm seriously underqualified to re configure my bike, esp since this is my first HIM.

It'd be nice if the "Athlete Guide" for this year was up on the site by now.

You DIDN'T get the email? I got that via email last week or earlier, I think.

I can't say I had updates this early on Vineman 70.3 when I did it last year and I didn't think anything was weird about that. The Athlete Guide didn't come out until less than 2 weeks before the race.

I notice there is now a "real" website for our race though! http://ironmanboise.com/

So, does anyone think that bussing for athletes should be included as part of our entrance fee and not an additional $8, espeically if you can't get to the swim start without taking the shuttle?

Today it snowed on me during my lunch run with 20 mph winds and not so warm either.  No frostbite on the ears so that is good.

I will probably have to start uping the distances soon.  9 weeks is not a lot of time is it?  And the water temp is going to be 50 F for the swim?   Brrrr is that an exageration or is that what it was last year?  The last tri I did in 08 had water temps of 80 F.  I didn't want to get out of the lake it was soooo nice.

Steve:
I think the swim last year was at least 55 degrees.  I followed the race because I had intentions last year, when I heard about it, of doing it this year.  I say that only because there was talk of if it didn't hit at least 55 degrees they were going to cancel the swim portion.

I also think that's why it's moved up two weeks and is later in the day.

Vets of last year can correct me, but  that's my memory now.
Andrea
P.S.  ya'd think our race packets would include a one way shuttle bus ticket.  but whatev.....

Can anyone make a recommendation on a hotel? Nothing fancy. Just someplace very quiet for my bike and me.

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express several times. It's fairly cheap and it's right by the airport. They also have an indoor pool and gym. There are plenty of other choices near by as well.

With the race coming up soon I've started thinking and talking more about strategy for race day. Here is a link to a good article about HIM pacing.

Thanks for the link. It sounds like great advice. I'm going to follow all of it . . except on the swim. I love racing OWS so I just can't help myself. It's the most fun part of the race for me, and I recover quickly on the bike.

travljini, I know from prior posts you've been anxious about the race and I thought of you when I read this. Hope this brings a little piece of mind.
