Don't worry, I already thought of that too. I've got a great spot, and it's close

There's just no way to incorporate that climb on the bike with the new bike course and the new arena finish.

I'd happily get rid of the arena finish and move it back to Walter E. Long. MUCH easier for us. I just think this will be a really unique finish, and much better for athletes and spectators alike.

We may also be having a sunday night shindig at Stubb's, with band and the folks from Livestrong. Budweiser is getting involved, so it could be a GREAT evening. More to come.....

If we do it, Hill's Cafe will be the site for the Friday Night Champs of Triathlon dinner, and Stubb's will host the Sunday evening party.

It is the same weekend as Livestrong for this year. We're actually working with them. You can race Longhorn and do it as a fundraiser, and have the family do the 5K downtown on Saturday. Livestrong is going to award special awards Sunday evening at the Shindig to the top 5 fundraisers at Longhorn.

I REALLY want to do this race! Is it totally crazy to drive 20 hours from Michigan to Texas just to race in a half ironman?

Jldicarlo drove from South Dakota last year...it's not crazy!! Lots of out-of-towners, great city, great atmosphere, great race!

We have a few of us from MS coming over for our first 1/2.  Give me some tips of where to stay.  I have never been to Austin before.

Anywhere near downtown should be decently close, it will be a ~20 minute drive to the site from the host hotel if memory serves.

Does anyone know how the bikes are transported to the finish after T2? For those of us that are protective of our babies. (:

T2 & the finish are the same spot, and they're both right next to the parking lot.

gotcha.  thanks, i read that wrong.  I heard that it was a two transition race.  If that is true, i guess my next question is how they keep all the T1 stuff organized like wetsuits and what not?  Im not questioning their methods since im sure its not their first rodeo, just curious how it will be handled.  Thanks!

T2 is right next to the parking area, which is one of the KEY reasons we're doing this. It's MUCH easier for you, the athlete, post-race. Instead of having to walk the half mile back to parking with your bike/stuff, you'll be right there.

In T1, we'll do a clean transition, which means you'll be provided with a bag to put ALL of your stuff in: wetsuit, goggles, etc. You'll hang that at your bike rack. We'll transport those bags to T2/Finish area, and you'll retrieve them there.

So, no reason to go back to the park after the race. Much easier for everyone.

If people don't think having this setup is a good idea, we'd be more than happy to go back to the 1 transition area race that we've had. It's MUCH easier for us, trust me. We're doing this because we think it's better for all of you.

And, yes, we have a pretty good idea of what we're doing

No, actually that sounds awesome! I can't wait. Please don't let my confusion and curiosity denote that I don't believe in your companys ability or anything else. I ran your lone star race and if this is even half as good as the race that you put on there, people are in for a first class event. Thanks again and see u in Austin!

Hey, I am coming from CA to do the race.  Can anyone tell me of a good local bike shop to send my bike to?  I am flying into San Antonio and staying with relatives so a shop there is probably better than Austin.  Looking forward to getting back to Texas...left when I was 8 and have only been back infrequently.

send it to Jack And Adam's. They'll have it for you at the expo to pick up. They're GREAT people, and LOVE triathlon....They also provide all of the on course mechanical support (along with Mavic) and staff the bike course.

Excellent..thanks.  I had sent an email to them a few weeks ago and didnt get a reply.  Wasnt sure if I needed to make an appointment so that I could be sure it would be done.  You know how it is...I want to send the machine as late as possible and get served to my convenience Wink.

Looking forward to participating.  Will be my first HIM.
