VegasJason, thanks for the report.  It's refreshing to hear something other than a horror story about this course.  Let's cross our fingers for light winds.

Sorry Shawn, I did not get to run on that day, but I did drive some of the run course since it mimics part of the bike course (and I did a scout in the car before the bike ride). It is a uphill out and downhill back (remeber two loops). I dont want to speak of grade since I didn't physically run it, but its definatly an uphill go for the first 1/4 and 3rd 1/4, and a downhill fall for the 2nd 1/4 and last 1/4, if that makes sense.
I will say that the intersection of Red Hills/Snow Canyon and 18/Bluff St. is going to be the place to sit if you are a spectator or family member. We will pass through that intersection 7 times before the day is done.

Thank you, VegasJason. Your report made me feel a little better about all this. Especially since I'm exhausted from training today (or lack thereof) and feeling like a total loser.

Thanks for all the course reports! Being my first IM, all this info helps (but doesn't scare me). We're coming up on six months out, so my resting period is almost over and training with my coach begins!

Sweet! 6 months go go! After my last 70.3 Austin last weekend and an easy week last week it's time to make every workout count. It's not IM specific training time, but every day you train will pay off May 1.

Happy training!

I have a really old Computrainer (nintendo style). I don't suppose anyone has the information I need to input IMSG into it so I can attempt to train for it?

Official IM training starts November 23rd for me.  I'm starting to get excited.  Hills, hills, and more hills--that is going to be my life for the next 5 months.  My mantra is Power.  Anybody else have a mantra they use when training.   I like power because it helps me climb and the word makes me focus on generating power in my legs both on the run and bike.  I don't have one for the swim but I'll need to be in the pool more until something pops in my head.  I've used "Easy" before to keep myself relaxed and keep technique.

I have two favorite sayings that I like to use during those tuff training days...

"Whether you think you can, or think you can't your right" Henry Ford
"Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit."  Vince Lombardie

And if things get to be to big of a self pity party I simply need to think about some of those incredible triathletes who do what I do, only minus a body part or two.....that shuts ups the left brain pretty quick Those guys and gals rock!!!!

My mantra is: You Will...

When it gets tough I just tell myself You will... keep going, get up the hill, keep running.. Whatever it is I try to put a positive thought in my head.

My mantra is: "one at a time"  This is my first Ironman and everytime I think about all the hours I have ahead of me i get a little worked up.  So I just tell my self one battle at a time, or one workout at a time.

24 week plan starts tomorrow!

Funny, I was telling my wife the exact same thing yesterday. We've got next.

Hard to believe, but there are onnly 22 weekends of training left before the race. Take away 2 weekends for taper and you're potentially looking at 20 weekends of long workouts.

Bring it on!

Hey...let's not lose our heads here, campers...6 mos. is an effing eternity.

Just got back from volunteering with my wife at IMAZ, actually (bike special needs)...can't tell you how many times I had pretty much the exact same exchange with other volunteers on Sunday:

"So are you signing up for next year tomorrow?"

"No...we're just here from LA to support some friends in the race.  I'm already signed up for St. George...that's enough for next year."

"Oh...St. George."   Pause.   "Wow...good luck...that's going to be tough."

Nope...one IM a year is enough for me.

(Esp. since I think my wife and I are both going to race IM 70.3 Hawaii five weeks after St. George.)
